Best explanation of comedy I've heard is it's about finding connections and revealing hidden truths between two seemingly unrelated subjects. What makes you laugh is when the comedian reveals the connection and you realize "goddamit, that's so TRUE!"

I think your explanation works in certain cases but not all the time. You can subvert expectations of people in many ways that are not exactly "true"? Idk I am not that funny either but I am just saying what I have seen.

Dark Souls is a game based on trial and error. In comedy, you can't perfect one strategy, you have to try a new one every run.
Except I have some vague clue as to what I'm doing in Dark Souls, comedy is like playing dark souls but the console isn't connected to a TV or monitor.

1. Writing a Joke (Setup, Premise, Establishing Audience's Expectation & Breaking it)
2. Delivery (Expressing the joke, Be 100% invested in the joke)
3. Revising the Joke (Adding Specificity, Funny > Offensive ✔, Cadence)
Practice, Read & Listen a lot
The pickle juice joke was a great example of delivery, that comedian was only at the setup and he had me laughing
Being funny isn't about being able to making people laugh with a random joke, it's about making people laugh in ordinary conversation.
How about both? Why should comedy be locked to one scenaro?

That's the fucking thing with Casually explained, he says everything in the same tone so it can be hard to decipher whether the information is legit or not. This video though, I'd say he fucking nailed it.

She hit me and broke off her silent prayer laughing with my other friends.

I just listened to your australian animal videos and autoplay led me here. As someone who's naturally funny it's really interesting to hear about people explaining how to be funny because I've just never had to think about this sort of stuff,it's just what you do.
I would love to see a series by you about comedy writing!! This video was awesome! I've watched a lot of stand up comedy, and I had been making my own mental notes about what made things funny. But I didn't really know how to turn those ideas into a process to make my own. This video hit the spot. So brilliant. Thank you!

@@stayskeptic3923 Most of his jokes are hidden within his dialogue. He actually makes a lot of jokes that you have to look out for, which makes it funnier. But that just cracked me up since that was the first time I heard him laugh in my life.

Fabulous! And it's so serious because at the end of the day comedy is a serious business which must be taken seriously in order for it to be effective. This is such a helpful video that I have bookmarked it and intend to watch it too or three times in succession so that I can be certain that I have really interiorized the points that I most needed to hear regarding delivery. I do not ever want to catch myself worrying about how a joke is landing while I am in the midst of delivering it.

I just learned something about myself today. There are two types of people who get a laugh: people who tell good jokes, and people who tell bad jokes confidently. And apparently my whole life I have existed in that back territory somewhere
Confidence man. I feel like we underestimate that concept, even forget it's there at times. It definitely isn't everything you'll need, but it's one hell of a start.

Its funny how much effort you put into this compared to your other stuff. Like I got sucked into it as if you were an actual how to Chanel. It was actually great and not casual at all. You backed everything up like you were doing a video essay.
As someone who has been in front of crowds and also have done spur of the moment standup, it takes more than just the facts. Just like you said it's not what you say it's how you say it. And NOTHING is off limits. And comedy is a skill where you have to come up with dry humor or even jokes on the fly in a split second, even fresh new ones.
