Battery life etc is nice, but what I really do like with e-ink, is that core principle of reflecting light instead of generating it while fighting the ambiant light. A nice comparison between an iPad and an e-ink device would be outside in broad intense daylight where the advantages of e-ink would show.

Even in an indoor environment, electronic paint has one big advantage: it doesn't emit a flickering blue light that gives you a headache and eye pain.

Both are for very different things:
      - (O)LED on Android or iOS tablets is good for everything (but long reading, long writing, long note taking/drawing)
      - e-ink (color or note) is fabulous for long reading/writing, long note taking/drawing.
I have the Boox Ultra (by the way, the autorotation doesn't work after sleep, ATM they still didn't fix it...) and it's a pleasure to read, work long, the eyes aren't tied at all.
The thing is, I still have to have my Tab S6 Lite because it's a "can do all" product, but I can't read, write or sketch long on an LCD-DISPLAY. On an e-ink, as long as I want.

    • @ricarmig

@@daniloteixeira7444it has to do with emissive versus Reflective and panel nature:
      - to emit light, light sources usually flicker and have too much blue light wave, which is bad for the eyes
      - most good panels refresh dynamically (flicker) from 1 to 120 times/ second. It is smooth but flicker that amount of times. It is not as comfortable as an e-ink
      - e-ink reflect natural light (they also have light sources but they are reflected, a little bit different) and refresh ONLY when needed. If you are reading a page for 15 seconds, it won't flicker/ refresh, only on the page turn. Great. At the end of the day, it is much better for the eyes and battery life.
To sum up: e-ink if you do something long and want it to be easy on the eyes; upside, long battery life. Other screens for anything else. I use my Ultra to have a full tablet, easy on the eyes and in can read websites, watch some short video, etc.. For rich colors (watch images, videos, paint) I use my Tab S6 Lite

There's a lot of talk in this video about the great battery-charge life of the Tab Ultra C without any actual demonstration of that. I've heard reports that the battery-charge life on the Tab Ultra C isn't all that great, apparently having something to do with it having a GPU. I only really want the Tab Ultra C to read, take notes, and to draft. I won't be watching videos whatsoever. I need the color when reading scientific texts with charts that use color for discrimination. That's almost about it. I think I'd only ever get the Tab Ultra C over the iPad if the Tab Ultra C battery charge lasted a week or more. Unfortunately, the Onyx return policy isn't so great as to let you buy and then return if you're not satisfied.

How much worse is the writing on the Tab Ultra C compared with other (colour) e-ink devices? The 'almost paper-like' writing is important for me and one major selling point of e-ink devices, imo. I guess if the writing feel of the Ultra C is only marginally better than writing on a standard screen glass tablet, I will have to wait longer for my dream note-taking device (coloured e-ink with almost paper-like writing feel and modern Android).

The battery will "last until the dinosaurs come back"? Seriously? I own a BOOX Tab X and even if I turn off WLAN, Bluetooth, and the backlight, the battery lasts less than 20 hours. It still consumes around 300mA/h. The tablet is equipped with a 6300mA battery, so it can last logically around 21 hours. If what you are saying is a truth, Onyx has improved drastically the battery consumption of the E-Ink tablets.

    Hello everyone,
I am currently on the lookout for a digital device that can serve as a replacement for my laptop, computer, or tablet, without causing strain or discomfort to my eyes and head during extended use. Through my research, I have identified two technologies that seem to fulfill this requirement: R-lcd and E-Ink. However, I am open to being corrected if there are other suitable options available.
In my quest for the ideal device, I have established the following criteria:
    1. Internet access: The device should enable me to fully enjoy the benefits of the digital world.
    2. Comfortable usage: I am seeking a device that I can comfortably work on and view for extended periods.
    3. Reduced reliance on traditional computers/tablets: Ideally, the device should minimize the need for a regular computer or tablet for work, information consumption, and productivity purposes. While video playback is not crucial, it would be a bonus.
After extensive browsing and watching various videos, I have come across several options that might be suitable, varying in terms of price:
    1. Color E-ink tablets, such as Onyx Tab Ultra C or BigMe.
    2. B&W E-ink Big Tablets, like Onyx boox max Lumi or tab X.
    3. Lenovo Twist models that combine E-ink and OLED.
    4. A separate screen that supports either of these technologies.
Considering cost-effectiveness for my current needs, I am inclined towards two options:
    a) Onyx Tab X or Lumi, due to their larger screens suitable for work. I may consider attaching a smaller tablet for content consumption, such as reading, in the future.
    or
    b) Onyx Tab Ultra C or BigMe, as they offer color support, which can be advantageous. However, I have discovered some drawbacks associated with these models as well.
I would greatly appreciate your input and opinions on this matter.
Additionally, I have a couple of questions:
    1. Where is the recommended place to purchase these products? Should I buy them immediately or wait for a specific timeframe or purchase exclusively from the official store?
    2. If you have any other product recommendations that align with my requirements, I would welcome your suggestions.
Thank you in advance for your assistance.
