Just so you know - this was one of my early videos and I was still learning about making videos (still am, 3 years on! 😍) This has been a very popular video, with the majority of comments being positive. But a handful of people have commented on my quiet voice and the music that I put in when there was no speaking. Of course you can watch with the sound off and turn the captions on if this bothers you. Thanks to all the wonderful people who have been really kind in supporting me and understanding that we all had to start somewhere. Long live all the kind people in the world❤️
Beautiful. A tip re: punching circles in foil If you place a piece of regular paper in with the foil it often cuts more cleanly. Also when a punch gets dinged or dull you can punch through a couple of layers of foil and that may sharpen it. (Depending the damage)
Thanks for watching and leaving such a helpful comment. I will try the paper/foil tip - it sounds like it would work well. And yes, the sharpening with foil does work unless the punch is damaged - I had one that just didn't want to cut on one edge and nothing I did worked 😟. Thanks again!
Yeah, once they are nicked it is sadly time to reinvest. Of course that only happens in the middle of the night when the stores are closed. I was really surprised how well it cured minor damage though. I did not expect it to work.
I'm catching up with some of your earlier video's as I like watching you create 'stuff' haha - maybe this is something I might try one day if I ever find the time - great tutorial and I'll also watch your newer version :)
That’s a lot of watching Lesley! 😀Thank you so much for taking time to watch my videos and I hope you are enjoying doing lots of your beautiful sewing too - I’m always showing your gorgeous little mug rug to people as an example of what perfect sewing looks like! You should make a video😍
I used to work with elementary students. We did a fun art project (though smelly during the creative part) We cut out fish shapes from cardboard. We then wrapped the fish in foil. We did not specifically wrinkle it though but I now see how would have added interest. We used many colors of Sharpie permanent markers to decorate the fish and they came out beautifully. I was in my 30's and my mother stuck my sample fish on the fridge. LOL She actually pulled it out of the trash! She is a dang cool mom. The project was less expensive than buying metallic markers and the fish went well with the Rainbow Fish story.
That sounds like a cool project - the fish one. I didn't have much luck using Sharpies on foil, but maybe I should give it another go. Thanks for sharing your experiences here, I really love hearing about other people's crafts. Have a good day.
That’s a good idea - some of those candy wrapper foils are really pretty and seem a shame to throw away. It will be a question of experimentation though because the finish on candy wrappers may be different to ordinary aluminium foil. Thanks for watching and taking time to comment. Happy New Year to you!
Your pendants are gorgeous! I hope I can make some as pretty as yours. You explain all the instructions in a detailed way which is very helpful to me. Thank you for making your video and please ignore any mean comments 💖. I think people must be very unhappy to write negative things online. It says everything about who they are and nothing about the person they are commenting on. Thanks again and wishing you happy, creative moments 🌸✨🌟✨🌸.
Thank you Skye - I appreciate your comment and I hope you make some beautiful pendants. I always feel sorry for anyone who makes mean comments because as you say, they are usually unhappy people. I know that unhappy people are always looking for ways to make themselves feel good by putting others down and that is the saddest thing. Thanks for taking time to be supportive - people like you make the world a better place.😍
Hi Geraldine - thanks for the comment and sorry I didn't include the flattening in the original video. Just in case you didn't find out how to do it yet, I just made a very quick video for you showing exactly how to use the Big Shot to flatten the bottle caps - there is a link at the end of this video or cut and paste this ua-cam.com/video/LIddP63THgM/v-deo.html Thanks for the nudge :-)
Very well done. Thank you. Also, I heard you just fine. I didn't blow my eardrums out with rock music. Forgive the gripers. The internet seems to swarm with them.
Thank you Jan - it's kind of you to feed that back to me. I think it must depend on what people are using to watch and listen to that video, because some people like you don't have a problem. And yes, the internet is a great place for negative people to do their thing anonymously! But as the majority of people are really lovely, like you - it's all good. Many thanks.
They are beautiful! Now when you hammer the bottle caps do you flatten them down completely? Also love the bracelet you are wearing on your left wrist with the hanging trinkets, it's beautiful! How do you make them, do you have a how to video for them???
Thank you, I appreciate your comment. No, you dont flatten the bottle cap completely, you just need to tap all around the fluted edge to turn it down (as if you are folding the edge over away from the front). And no, I don't have a video for that other bracelet just yet. I have had the request from someone else too and it is on my schedule of videos to make - it will be coming up in the next 3 weeks.
is there any alternative for diamond glaze? any glue that will help the glass dome stick strongly on the frame charm? any glue that helps glass stick to the other surface strongly?
Thank you for your question - yes - I also use Anita's 3D Clear Gloss on a lot of my projects. I have made lots of these pendants using that instead of Diamond Glaze. It just depends which one I can get hold of the easiest when I run out.
Hello Andrea - thank you and glad you like it. If you mean the charm bracelet - yes I did and there is a video on that on here too. Will find the link and add here shortly.
Hi, thanks for the video it's great. When I try to flatten buttons with my cuttle bug they come out distorted. Do you know why that happens, and how I can fix them?
Hi April - I can't remember where I got the Big Shot now but probably Amazon. They do have them on there. I used to get my bottle caps from a small independent retailer in the UK but now I get them from Amazon. I know Amazon.com has them.
Dudette! Your bracelet (the one with the charms) is SO COOL! Did you make that too? If so, do you have a video on that? Where do you get the glass overlays?
😀Thank you, I appreciate your lovely comment. Yes, I do apologise about the music - I did remake the film but this one has been so popular I decided to leave it on here. I’m glad you like the pendants and once again, sorry about the sound, it took me some time to learn how not to do that but I’m better at getting the sound right now. 😍
So sorry Caroline - I hadn't realised I didn't respond to your question. I fixed the rings to the bottle caps myself - we used to be able to get them already fixed but I'm not sure if anyone still supplies them. Unfortunately I don't know about getting them in the US.
I did exactly wha you did and when I put the diamond glaze over the foil it makes the inks on foil run together making everything brown or black blob what am I doing wrong. help please
Sorry to hear that Tiffany, you need to make sure your inks are completely dry before you stick the glass overlays on. Also use good quality alcohol inks. It may also depend on the climate wherever you live as to how well and how quickly the inks dry. I’ve never had this issue so I’m not sure why yours have done this. I do know that some colors take longer to dry than others so maybe try a test piece of foil with different colors and leave them to dry for much longer than before. Let me know how you get on.
Love these! Whats that music track at 4:45 mark? I would love to use it on my videos. Copyright free i would think. I didnt see it on description, thanks
+MixedUpMargie thank you - glad you like them - I am not sure of the title but any music I use in my craft videos is what came free with iMovie - they are all copyright free music clips - I will check when I get back to my Mac on Monday and let you know.
Could be any one of a number of things. Without having been there while you did it, it's hard to say but could be the alcohol inks, could be that the inks weren't totally dry (some take longer than others)before you put the glue and the glass domes on. It's very unusual for good name brand alcohol inks to fade. I still have necklaces that I did several years ago and they are still bright as ever. Once the inks are totally dry on the foil, it would be hard for them to fade - where would the color pigment go? So my guess is the inks weren't totally dry and they have been diluted somehow by the glue. Did you by any chance use any yellow alcohol ink in your project? That's the only color I have ever had any issues with.
@@RainbowLane thanks for the reply. I can't remember how long I left the inks for but it was probably at least next day. No yellow used. At least if yours haven't faded that gives me hope!
Hello Libby - I just posted a video yesterday to show how I do it with the Big Shot machine. Do you have one of those or do you need to see how to do it with a hammer? There is now a link on the end screen of the alcohol ink pendant video but you can cut and paste this too to get to the video. Hope it helps.
i havent got the big shot machine, and i have just seen the price of them so it would have to be a hammer...armed and dangerous....thank you for posting the link by the way. I have found another link for flattening with a hammer, and give it a go.
Yes I know - they are a shocking price! Thankfully I have had mine for quite a while and it wasn't as much when I got it. Hope the hammer flattening goes ok - just watch your fingers! I have bashed mine so many times because I often use a hammer if I am too lazy to get the Big Shot out. Would love to see your finished pieces.
im just a beginner but as soon as i turn something out i will let you know and send you a link......i will keep an eye out on ebay i might find one quite cheap or perhaps will be lucky enough to find one in a charity shop or carboot, fingers crossed. Im hoping that if i can master what you are doing it might be an ideal hobby for my daughter who has special needs. Its just a case of finding something she would be interested in doing. and you never know she might just be awesome at doing it lol
Hope you find one and good luck with helping your daughter with this. She may very well be awesome at it - society places too much value on a very narrow band of abilities and people with special needs or abilities that aren't profitable to society can get left behind. What does she like in life? If there is anything arty or crafty you think she might love to see, let me know and I will make her a video. Warm wishes to you both. x
For goodness sake - the pendants are great, but please don't go from speaking so softly that you can barely be heard to blasting out music that makes a person rip out their headphones!!!
Or the sound of cutting the aluminum foil. I seriously turned the sound off. It hurt my ears. Also, I happen to know what a Sizzix BigKick is, but my thinking is most people don't unless they're into scrapbooking. Showing that step was pretty darn important. Otherwise, it's an interesting project and I appreciate the video.
This is a pretty cool project. However, it is quite difficult to hear your words clearly in the beginning--especially over the crumpling of the aluminum foil. I agree the music (when played) is too loud. A tutorial &/or more detailed instructions for the bottle cap preparation would be nice. Having a sequence that lists/describes all the items needed would also be helpful.
Hi Kelly - you are right - I should have included that step and have just put a video up showing how to do it - I have put a link at the end of the video now but you can cut and paste this too ua-cam.com/video/LIddP63THgM/v-deo.html Apologies for not including it in the first place.
+Courtney Lloyd Hi Courtney, if you go to this post on my website www.funcraftstodoathome.com/2017/08/08/how-to-make-faux-dichroic-glass-pendants-with-alcohol-inks/ Scroll down to the end and you will see I have links to all the supplies. There are links for both US and U.K. If you live somewhere outside that scope, just Google 1 inch glass domes and you should get lots of hits.
+Maria das Graças Duarte do Nascimento Esta é tinta alcoólica. Desculpe se este não é bom português, estou usando ajuda de tradução! Você pode obter tintas de álcool on-line se você for Google para o seu país. Obrigado.
+Jennie Spooner Not sure where you live but in the U.K., tin foil and aluminium foil is the same thing. It's the stuff you buy in the supermarket to use in baking.
+Jennie Spooner The bottle caps are almost identical to the ones we can buy in place like The Range for bottling home brewed beer. The only difference with the ones I have used here is that they don't have the plastic liner inside that is required for food use. I sometimes do use the beer bottling caps with the liner in but I prefer unlined ones. You can melt the liner out if you only have beer bottle caps but it's a bit time consuming. The unlined ones for craft use are available on line and don't cost that much.
Thank you Sarah - bless your heart for caring. No, I wasn’t sad when I made that video, just nervous and not very comfortable talking and I guess that came across - a few people have been very critical! But then there are the kind people of the world like you 😍. I have found it has got easier as I have made more videos and despite the negative comments from some people, I left the video up here because it’s been quite popular. Thanks again and I hope your pendants turn out really well.
Rainbow Lane Awww great! am so happy to hear that, you are very sweet. I do have a question though I am having trouble with these and I wondered if you could help. So I didn’t use diamond glaze to fuse the foil to the glass I used a mod podge instead because that is what I had, however I noticed the mod podge made my alcohol inks kind of bleed around and into each other more... even after it was dried and set. Do you know why that may have done that? Should I not use the mod podge and should I get the stuff or something similar instead? Some advice on how to troubleshoot that would be absolutely amazing thank you so much!!!
Oh no! That's not the result you wanted I'm sure. Don't know which Mod Podge you used but I would stay away from anything that has a high proportion of water in it. To fuse the glass dome to the foil, you really do need something that is made to dry crystal clear. Diamond glaze is good and although I have never used it on these pendants, Mod Podge Dimensional Magic would probably work well - you would have to experiment. Anita's Clear Gloss is one I have used with success as well. I hope you have some success with your next try - don't give up! Might be a good idea to keep some of your inked foil just to experiment with before you try and stick any domes on - maybe just paint some of your chosen glaze product onto the foil and see what happens. Good luck! Let me know how you get on.
Your pendants turned out lovely, but I really have to say was there any need for that music to be played that loudly, I near had a bloody heart attack.
Yes - I know, I do apologise but this film has been so popular I left it on here. There is a newer version with better sound. Thanks for watching and again, apologies for making you jump with the sound.
First off, I love these Pendents, but how am I suppose to hear you when you're balling that foil up at the same time! You speak so soft and it makes it hard to hear you darling.
+Todd 9 Yes I know - that's why I made a second video making more of these pendants, with better sound and put a link below the video the original video. Thanks for your comment.

the tin foil has a lovely impressionist finish. I have to try this! TFS!
+Priscilla Andrews Yes - you're right, I can see what you mean about that. Thanks for watching and I hope you get some brilliant results with yours.
Thank you for sharing, now I have a beautiful way of doing my bottle caps.

Very pretty. Thanks for taking your time to share this.
Thank you and you are very welcome. I enjoy making these videos but when people get something out of them it makes me even happier. :-)
I just saved some gold foil from Christmas candy. The inks have been odored during the holidays. I can't wait to try this.

There isn't any paint used - just alcohol inks with glass over the top.
Well Once you adhere the foil to the glass it is sealed under the glass so nothing can chip it.

Can you just spray it with alcohol?
Spray, drip, squirt. Whatever works for you.
Crinkling foil = ASMR
ragdolllibby - totally accidental - that's an interesting thought!
Obrigado.
Beautiful
+classical7 Thank you for watching - glad you like them.
Lindo!
¡Gracias! Me alegro de que te gusten.🙏
is it tin foil or aluminum foil ?
+Jennie Spooner Not sure where you live but in the U.K., tin foil and aluminium foil is the same thing. It's the stuff you buy in the supermarket to use in baking.
nice
Thank you Manjula🙏
that doesnt look like an actual bottle cap ..is that some sort of a " craft" bottle cap ?
+Jennie Spooner The bottle caps are almost identical to the ones we can buy in place like The Range for bottling home brewed beer. The only difference with the ones I have used here is that they don't have the plastic liner inside that is required for food use. I sometimes do use the beer bottling caps with the liner in but I prefer unlined ones. You can melt the liner out if you only have beer bottle caps but it's a bit time consuming. The unlined ones for craft use are available on line and don't cost that much.
Your voice sounds sad, hopefully you are not though. :) absolutely an amazing video I can’t wait to try it out.
Muy inteligente
+Amanda Leguiza Gracias, aprecio tu comentario.
Yeah me too
Here is a link to a short video I made showing how to flatten the caps - hope it helps. ua-cam.com/video/LIddP63THgM/v-deo.html
GOOD LOK
Thank you.

Hi Francine - you probably haven't seen the link but this video was re-made - you can see it here: ua-cam.com/video/9RdfWfrIwQI/v-deo.html

Rude much? Geez! The video is fine!
