In this video I demonstrate my unique process on how to create Watercolor Paper Earrings. The process is based on the same method that I use to create "Watercolor Paper Pendants," and because they are very light weight you can freely experiment with their design and make them as large as you like. In my actual workshops, my students have lots of fun experimenting with designs and often make many different earring pairs during a three hour class.
Similar in structure to the watercolor paper pendant, the earrings employ the same paper layering process, and the main form of the earring is built from three layers of 140lb watercolor paper. After the initial form is created, a top layer is glued in place that has been painted with watercolors to create a tiny watercolor painting. I usually cover the back of the earrings with a decorative paper. I particularly like to use banana paper.

I just spent my first day of 2016 watching the remarkable video. Never knew about this at all. I'm definitely going to try this!! Working at a craft store for the past 15 years I've seen this paper in the Fine Arts Dept. but never ever knew you can make this! Usually an Art student is looking for this paper for watercolor pictures that their Professor has instructed them to purchase. I'm a 59 year old woman and I just like making things from beginning to end, all the while watching the end piece evolve. This is absolutely Amazing!!! Thank you sir for taking the time to make this video. PS: found this video from watching your two videos about making the upside down heart earrings. Your teaching methods and the honest tutorial is why I'm watching several of your teachings. Gratefully, Martha

I usually don't have the patience to watch long videos of any kind, but this was never boring. The project is beautiful and skillfully done. It also gives me ideas for related projects and variations. I wonder if it would work to apply gold leaf on the edges. Metallic leaf need not be expensive. Leafing glue could be applied to the edges and you'd remove the excess similarly to removal of excess banana paper. I'd never heard of banana paper before. I assume rice paper would work as well.

I have tried it and have found that you do not get the same, durable and beautiful results with thicker paper as you do with layers of 140lb paper glued together. It is also generally harder to work with thicker paper. Hope this answers your question. Thanks for watching!
