First time homeowner here. Thanks for posting this video!!! I had a shutter that was ripped off with the shur-lok broke halfway in the house. I had no idea how to get them out nor replace. This videos step by step made for an easy job! Again, thanks!
THANK YOU!!! SO MUCH!!! I was trying to help remove these and was worried about my husband being on a ladder trying to pull these off by force! What a blessing this video is, thanks again!!!! Now I am excited!
It's 5/2023, and I've found this video very helpful! I feel confident enough to do my own shutters as a single woman. I've contracted out a lot of work on my home. However this is something I'd like to do myself on my ranch style home and i think ill enjoy it. Thank you! And thanks to Google for recommending your videos!
Just what I needed to repair my shutter. Quick and simple does the trick. One suggestion, use a soft mallet to hammer the plastic screws in place. This might save you some time from having to touch up the painted screws. Thank you so much!
I am also a new home owner and my shutters where very faded so, I also found your video helpful in taking them off. I'm also using this video to put them back on. Those shutter spikes(Lowes sell them as that name) are expensive around 7 bucks for 12. Been breaking all the splines off when hammering them through the shutter. I burned through a box. Just realized your guys are pushing them most of the way through before hammering them into the house, think that could be my problem and will try tomorrow. To frustrated at this point. Thanks again though for the help, I appreciate it.
When they can’t be forced in with a screw driver I use a drill and put a drywall screw into the broken off part and pull it out with a claw hammer, drilling them out can make the hole larger causing the new shutter fastener to be small for the hole.
Hey Chris; Thank you very much for the video as I also have shutters that the buttons have broken and was wondering how to remove them without destroying them. You saved me much $$. I didn't know it was that easy. Thanx again
Buddy Jones 3 weeks ago First time homeowner here. Thanks for posting this video!!! I had a shutter that was ripped off with the shur-lok broke halfway in the house. I had no idea how to get them out nor replace. This videos step by step made for an easy job! Again, thanks! Like Buddy here I have the same problems. What happens if the shur-lok breaks half-way in the house of a brick wall? Do I still drill out the broken plastic piece?
Great video. I got 8 of the 12 removed. 4 are being stubborn. They are flush against the brick. I cannot push back and drop in behind house because the hole does not go all the way through. I tried regular drill bit and when it did not work, I bought a concrete bit, but it's not drilling plastic out either. Any suggestions?
What do you mean? I didn't understand? I have same issue, screws are left and broken in holes...My wall is not bricks...Please explain in details how they can pulled out..much appreciated.
Thanks for the video. My only concern is drilling out the old fasteners. My fear is I will just get a bigger hole with the old fastners still in the hole. I started with a 1/8th inch hole hoping do break the fastner apart. I will try the 1/4 inch drill next. I hope it works.
I followed your instructions but haven't been able to replace the shutters using new fasteners. They keep bending then breaking. I even drilled inside the hole on the siding to make sure there's room for them (I didn't remove the part of the previous fastener behind the siding).
I wanted my shutters painted black as they are a faded red color. I called around and no painter would use black paint as its not rated for shutters... Is this true?
This was EXACTLY what I needed !!! I got all of mine removed thanks to you !!! Now I need to figure out how to clean and paint my shutters. They are polypropyene and copolymer according to the label. Do they have to be primed?
I removed the broken shur-loks from the holes. When hammering the new ones in some holes, the holes felt to be too big or the shur-loks weren't gripping to anything. What should I do?
Great video. I'm struggling..It just seems like too much work to do for a better look than a screw. Can someone convince me to use the spikes (buttons). They were provided..
Thanks for the video! Very helpful. Question: When you power wash behind the shutters, do you need to plug the holes to keep water out? Also, if I decide to just remove the shutters (they need new Shur-Loks every few years...), what do you recommend doing with the holes in the siding? Thank you!
DON'T DO IT! This method of chopping of the heads works great for fairly new plastic shutters or maybe plastic shutters that have NOT been exposed to the sun. I used this method on one side of my house no problem. Then I went to the side of the house exposed to the sun and I broke two shutters. The sun dried out the shutters making them brittle. One tap with the hammer on the all-in-one tool broke/shattered the shutter near the hole. Thought it must be an outlier. Tried again and broke the next shutter even worse. I had to use a cutting tool on the rest.
i have these shutters and would like to spray paint them, but i want to take them off and do it in my garage, is that possible? it looks like the only way to take them off is your method to where your cutting the button off. i would need a way to save them somehow...is that possible?
Any advice on creating stable footing on a somewhat sharp pitch? I need to get up to a window that's right above the overhanging roof of a bay window. I need to paint window frame, remove shutters. ...a little nervous.

Follow up, how did it go? Did you do it yourself and end up enjoying the process?
Leaves no question on how to do this job. GREAT JOB GUYS!
Just told my wife "I don't know what i am going to do about those shutters." Now I do, thank you for this video!

Thanks for the tip & for watching!
I noticed your comment and used the soft hammer

I'd be lost without your help.. My house has been transformed inside and out!!!! THANK YOU

One of the best "how to" videos I have seen on UA-cam. I am a new subscriber. What type of paint do you use for vinyl shutters?
Thank you for this video! This was so helpful!
You're so welcome!

Thanks for watching Matty!
Answered my question. Thank you for posting.
Thanks for this. I couldn't figure out how to remove these fasteners on my broken shutters. The ones i have appear to have some type of metal inserts.

Thank you. Nice video. Very informative. From Upper Michigan.
I think a hard rubber head mallet would work better.
You guys are awsome, thanks!

Agree with other comments. Thanks so much, super helpful video!!
Thanks for watching!
Really good, clear video....nice job boss!
How would you remove the easy lok shutter screws if they were put into mortar?

Saved the day good man. Thanks for the video. Keep Rockin.
Thanks for watching Anthony!
F***ing amazing tutorial. Exactly the level of detail I was hoping for to educate myself. Thanks!!!
No need for the F word, unless you are uncouth. F means rape, so why use it so much, unless you're ignorant.
Thank you for this video.
My pleasure!

Super helpful. Thank you!
Great Video..very helpful!
What if you want to remove them permanently
Very helpful
Just what I needed to see. Thx.
You are welcome!
I removed the broken shur-loks from the holes. When hammering the new ones in some holes, the holes felt to be too big or the shur-loks weren't gripping to anything. What should I do?
channel lock plier probably wouldn't cut them so much. They have a round head too.
Nice
Thank you for this information!!
Hi Chris, what do you use to clean your shutters before painting them? Also do you have video of prepping and painting them in place
always good tips on your videos!
It's not a bad idea to number the shutters to it easier for instalation because not all holes are in the same place.
Great video. I'm struggling..It just seems like too much work to do for a better look than a screw. Can someone convince me to use the spikes (buttons). They were provided..
thanks for tips. the info helps a lot
What if the shutters are on brick. Will it be the same process and same shutter buttons?
Yes
great explanation

What do you recommend to paint them? I have some grey ones that I need/want to make black. Can you give some recommendations?
Duration
Have you tried to reinstall the buttons with a rubber hammer to avoid touching up?
Helpful video. Thanks!
Very helpful! Thank you.

Brilliant video!

Thank you!
Really useful video.
would have liked to see an example of what to do when they break off in concrete and you cannot tap them back into the house...
Sure
great video. thanks for the information.

Thanks. Looks reasonably priced too. I'll check it out.
Unless the color was a match its mute point. You would have to paint anyhow. But Jeremy is right, its a mallet job,
Thank you so much! I was able to fix my half hanging all shutters. Your video helped me tackle all problems I faced during installation.🫡
was their someting wrog with your house or did you just do that for this video
We took them off to paint them!
Disabled playback on iPads. Why?
Thanks Brother ........
Thank you!
How do you paint your shutters?
Great! Thank You
Thanks!
The row of wasp nests made me cringe
Who puts semi gloss on cedar siding,or cement board? SMH
Garbage method. Always use metal screws. The shutter spikes are garbage. UV breaks them in 1 year.
lol stfu
I've had them on my house for 18 years now, directly facing the sun, not one has broken.
Thank you!! VERY helpfull!!
