Hi John! Thank you so much for your review! I have had one for 6 months now, and I learned a couple things from your video! Just in case anyone is wondering, I have played with it with everything, including Phantom power turned on with a Mic and Guitar, and gone easily 4 hours without running out of battery (one downside is that there is not a battery gauge), I also have the latest generation Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 4th generation, and the sound quality is comparable apart from the focusrite's air feature. Truth be told, I've not used the Focusrite since getting the Joyo, seeing as it's so much more versatile. It works well with a charging brick too. It's the best interface I've used. Loopypro on the iPad for effects and recording, and stream live to the Iphone with the other USB out. It's a brilliant design that has a real edge over the others due to its functionality.

Hi John, the doubling effekt is caused by the Latency on the path mixer --> ipad --> looper app --> ipad --> mixer. Can you measure the latency. For live performance the latency is absolutely crucial. You could measure it by recording the output and zoom in on your daw and set the yout timlineformat to milliseconds.
Hi John! Great content! I was wondering if this device could be used as a pseudo vocal reverb box for playing live gigs/open mics? Basically just running a dynamic mic into the Joyo with the reverb on and then going through to the PA/Speakers via one of the 6.35mm main outputs - thus giving reverb effect to my live vocals. Would that be possible?
Your videos are great but I still feel lost and kinda overwhelmed with everything and how to get my looping down. Is there any chance I could hire you for an hour or two ? Sorry for asking here, idk how else to reach out.
@@JohnPaulMusicUK Oh that is absolutely spectacular! I thought because you mentioned it didn’t have preamps and that the sound quality might not be as good as a regular audio interface. But this really may be a one of its kind answer for those of us who use both our iPads and computers simultaneously in Live and production situations without plugging our iPads into the audio inputs of our regular interface.

I don‘t stream (yet), nor do I record, but I wonder whether this little box might also serve me and many other solo performers well as a mini sub-mixer, e.g. for extras that don‘t need total sonic fidelity, such as an active, battery-operated stompbox and hihat pedal (Meinl), a BeatBuddy, etc. That would reduce all the extras to a single output, making it easy to input everything (in a balanced way easy to readjust on the fly) into a single Aux input of whatever guitar/vocal pedal one happens to be using. Do you think it would work for that?
Yeah I’ve been thinking about this and thinking of making a separate video about doing something similar. Would be a great mini mixer. It’s so light and compact that it would be nice for that. Only thing is the ‘spider’ like look with a load of cables sprouting out of it but if you had left or right angled cables or wireless then I might not be so bad.
@@JohnPaulMusicUK Good point about the „spider cabling“ (which you had also kindly mentioned in your video). But I use right-angle EBS patch cables, anyhow, and frankly the look of the thing wouldn‘t bother anybody, since it would sit on the floor off to the side of my pedalboard plus stompbox/rhythm devices. Currently I‘m using a passive mixer that doesn‘t color or degrade the sound of those devices at all: Rolls MX 41 b. Thomann here in Germany recommended it to me at the time, also based on their using it in their studios for demoing various speakers. If the Joyo doesn‘t degrade my sound (or hiss) too much, it would be great to have it as an active mixer, instead, giving low-output sources a bit of a boost. I wish some cool UA-camr out there would do a comparison of passive and battery-powered active mini mixers for such a purpose, with a side-by-side „hiss test“ using decent, hi-fidelity speakers (such as the Everse 8). That would be valuable (hint hint). ;-)
Finally a company that knows what people really want. Zoom, are you watching. I use zoom r8 for busking, just wish it was able to do these extra things plus all it does already, the newer smaller zooms are a mistake. Because many of the features in R8 were removed, hence I hope some wise company gives us something full featured. Interface, Mic pre, Little drum machine, 4 track simul...recording, Guitar effects, Vocal effect each independent, And the features in thus magic box would be a dream come true. R8 comes close but not there, this is why I bought Akai mpc One plus, but too big for busking, and mixing divers sources is a rocket science unlike R8 or these live oriented portable gears. Unfortunately these companies have no real musicians working with them so as to help them create practical usable gears. What a world. Many important products do not yet exist, Gtr efx units with mic and gtr efx and a looper, does not exist. Non foe electric guitar type effects.

Yes. It has an aux in (that you will have to control the volume at the source) and also a stereo instrument in (2x mono 6’ 35 jack cables) as well as 2 separate mono combo jacks for guitar or mic. It’s a little beast.

Through your video and the tips you provided I was able to get my Momix Pro working with my iPad (running Loopy Pro and MacBook Pro (set up a virtual audio input via Loopback) to play live in a virtual open mic. Can it pass usb midi from one device to another? If for example I plug drum machine into usb port with both usb-midi-audio will it exchange that data with iPad via this mixer? (any Roland aria compact, elektron devices…)
Do you have separate levels for each of the outputs? I mean, can you have different mixes for headphones and main outs (and whatever extra outs we might have)

Wow! I really wish you could connect the 2nd USB to a PC. I don’t know of any audio interfaces where you can record the output of your iPad via USBc.

You have separate levels for the inputs but they are not separate for the headphones aka can’t have different mixes in the headphones.
To work with lightning Ipad (older models] - do i n camera-lightning-adapter? Or i plug in straight into lightning?
It (should) be straight in with lightening.. but it’s down to the iPad. I would keep the adapter around just in case.

It has 2x headphone outs.. don’t know in your software if you could send the preview to one of those.
