I used to see Jeff Lorber Fusion at Toad's Place in New Haven, CT. Those were some great times. They always had the crowd going wild for the whole show.
This song was inspired by "Toad's Place" New Haven.."Where legends play"...I saw them perform several times. During one show the band experienced a technical malfunction, a newer band member stepped to the front of the stage and began playing the sax....the crowd went crazy...he was introduced as Kenny Gorelick..later the audience was giving him props, he signed autographs....he was Kenny Gorelick...a year later ...he went solo and was called Kenny G!

It was around 1987 when I bought this cd at Tower Records in San Francisco. Got home, listened to the first cut which was this tune, then my life changed forever.
Me too!! Tower Records Piccadilly Circus London, my uncle had recorded it onto a tape and it took me years to find out who it was... no google back then
I loved this song .Toad's place good it''s good soprano sax playing and fantastic keyboard playing. By one of the pioneers in jazz fusion. Jeff Lorber.
Got this album back in the early 1980s. It was being played on the Jazz and Adult contemporary FM stations back then, along with artists like Chick Corea, Spyro Gyra, Neil Larson, Al De Meola just to name a few. Great new stuff back then. A mini Jazz renaissance as I like to think of it.
Not sure if you guys cares but if you guys are stoned like me during the covid times you can stream all the new movies and series on instaflixxer. Have been binge watching with my girlfriend for the last few months xD
You measn there actually is a "Toad's Place"? Wow...that's deep. I started listening to this song as a 17 year old in 1979, actually wearing out an lp. i am just finding this out at age 47 today.
The "thing" is, why doesn't Mr. Lorber play this type of music. Anymore? bum bum bum ... It's all good, but for the love of goodness, gimme somma this too. He's in the prime of his life.
Yah, what legendary about this song is the brilliance of Danny Wilson! Have you seen Him? "Whereis DannyWilson@facebook....The legendary bassist speaks after 20 years. D-Dub was the truest pioneer of fusion bass. Funkschwe'
Man just listen to the growl of that MusicMan Sting Ray...I had one and I'm really a Jazz bass guy but......damn.....this is just some damn good pocket playing that I'll always gravitate to
I had never heard of Jeff Lorber but I found a 12" of his in a very grimy record store in L.A. two weeks ago and bought it because it features a pre-fame Karyn White. Truth be told, the song stinks but I showed it to an older friend of mine who told me Lorber was a Northwest guy from a long time ago.
I live next to roads place. Amazingly small place, makes you feel like you’re right with the band. Jim Morrison was arrested here after hitting a cop. Gear place
I used to be in a band called The Elements. We used to cover this tune. My god! What memories. Is it possible to get hold of this album still? Was it ever released on CD?
machine 1763 "trying to sound like Beck & Hammer" how so because I don't ever remember them grooving like this...not to say I don't like Jeff Beck because I still to this day listen to the Blow by Blow lp ( or mp3)
I don't like being in this position, but the sax is Kenny Gorelick, the original sax guy for Lorber. The deal is, Lorber has an ego, and at that time Kenny Gorelick didn't. I saw them in San Diego, at the small club near the UCSD campus, 1982. And at the Mandeville Center on the campus. Exceptional musicality, e mais alem o Kenny Gorelick da um toque fenomenal ao soulful ritmo e cordas bem brasileiras.
Wow. I'll forgive your history lesson. Jeff Lorber has been writing R and B and soulful music since the beginning. He didn't need G. True, they wrote great music together, but Kenny wanted to go on his own and Jeff produced his first 2 albums because he wanted him to have great sendoff. That's not a person with a big ego. I've been listening to Jeff for over 40 years.

My Uncle Paul says he always use to go see them back in the 1980s. Can’t imagine how fun it was. Toad’s Place seemed liked the place to be in the 80s.

..Of All The Pairings This Unit was The One... Just Phenomenal 😀😀😎👊💯
I thought it had to do with Wind and the Willows. Guess I was wrong!
Dennis Springer is the sax player.
No, I'm afraid it's that gorelick character.
Kenny G didn't join the band until the next album.
@@johnmcintosh7784 Its Dennis Springer on sax.
Yup!
I was wrong. Oh well. I know Kenny G played with Jeff for a while. Then put us to sleep. Nicely of course.
Kenny G came later but he was discovered by Lorber.
I’m surprised that there’s an entire song for a club, I wonder when Toad’s Place was founded?
February 1975
Do not resucitate let this an Trane b the only sounds I hear whn I go!
Not sure it was released in the U.S,but it's available as an import from Japan
Jeff lorber told place his blazing everybody knows about that they should
I used to be in a band called The Elements.
We used to cover this tune.
My god! What memories. Is it possible to get hold of this album still?
Was it ever released on CD?
Who is the Sax player?
Kenny G.
Who’s here at 2024?
Someone go back in time, and stop Gorelich from discovering the soprano sax!
@edennard1 These guys are a little too on top of it, though. In particular, those punches during the solos really make me tense up!
You are correct, Beck and Hammer great, wired funky in spots but not this smooth.

Dennis Bradford on drums...

@@juneniemann391 Stand corrected.
I think the sax player was Kenny Gorelick or as he became, Kenny G.
David Fatula its the late Joe Farrell long time chick corea contemporary. flute as well.good player!
It’s Dennis Springer. Kenny started playing on Wizard Island.
