  • I have the recollection that when 5RGJ was established at the end of '86 many of us who lived in High Wycombe - where Letter A Company of the new battalion was to be formed - were less than enthusiastic about leaving the camaraderie of Letter D Company at Aylesbury. The history associated with the old buildings we inhabited, the time spent up in the bar after training nights and the ritual of buying your own kit back off the Colour Serjeant in the Stores because you had left it unattended for more than eight seconds! These sorts of things became very familiar and made D Coy our own. Even the joyful prospect of the Stinkies being part of the new regiment and the promise of a shiny new Coy HQ in Wycombe (one day in the distant future) did little to encourage our "defection". When asked what sort of activity would most encourage the guys to join the new outfit I replied "more time with the Browning 9 mil and more chopper flights". I obviously wasn't the only one because no sooner had we left Aylesbury we were spending more time wringing out that venerable old semi automatic pistol and bouncing around in Chinooks and Lynx. That said, looking at the old lags on the shooting range in this slideshow I would say it was of 4RGJ vintage.

Wow, I can't remember this one. Was G Coy in this too from Westham? Maybe I was away.
