A Coy, 5 (V) Btn, Royal Green Jackets, Germany 1988

A disappointingly tame bunch of photos, I'm afraid (mostly taken from behind the wheel of a Land Rover FFR), of other folk having all the fun. Having gone over in the road party co-driving a 4 tonner I found myself driving this thing and sharing signals duties. A far cry from two years earlier when I was in the platoon flying around BAOR in a chopper looking down at the sad faces staring up at us from the vehicles the likes of which I was now occupying! Initially based among huge piles of parsnips at some farm we moved on to Peninsula Barracks in Hemer. During our day of so-called R&R, after reeling in a few miles of D10 we found ourselves at a schnellimbiss stuffing bratwurst into our faces while Cpl A remained outside guarding the FFR. I will forever be indebted to him for taking that very agreeable photo of ER, me, DS and MD outside the schnellie afterwards.

@@2457GreenJacket done a couple of tours in NI . We used to get s monthly magazine for troops in the Province. Always mentioned the Green hats being shot. Also went to one of their bases, it smelt like shit and didn’t look much better.
