My name is Mason and I’m an owner of Card N All Gaming in Louisville, Kentucky. You are my hero for posting this. It was one thing to gamble on packs but when streamers do all those gambling games it just straight up feeds my gambling addiction and lead me to a very dark place I'm still recovering from

There are still a few nice hidden gem channels on whatnot for Pokemon but I have also seen box breaks and rip till you hit games that really just burn their customers and I'm surprised people come back for more.

@@bamf3567 opening packs is a gamble at stores too. You might get a card worth more than pack. You might get all 10 cent cards. That's how it is.
I agree with your commentary. I stopped buying into breaks 2 years ago. I joined the Topps Montgomery club and now have the first shot at some product releases. It is well worth the $.
Dang that sucks, I missed you at Whatnot Mason! But ... I understand, I think Whatnot has become a little too toxic, I don't buy from it anymore. Yes, popular youtubers are selling things way over the actual value of the items but that's how it is. They kno they are overpaying only because they want to be noticed by their favorite youtuber or want a shoutout to get more followers. I am not a big channel by no means and im making a decent amount on it. Its the thrill of the auction too that makes people overbid too. That polaroid thing will defiantly get some people to bid but they use whatever they can to get sales of Crouse, cant really blame them. Thank you for your input.
I myself have gotten a lot of deals on whatnot . But that being said I have grown my collection into something I love. But I also have spent a lot of money I have no business spending at the moment.
Whatnot is their own worst enemy. They can't expand because the premise of their success relied upon a cult of personality. That isn't sustainable through expansion. There's not enough people out there willing to waste money indefinitely.
The only way whatnot can succeed is by promoting a platform that creates a healthy marketplace, where things are being sold for fair market value across all channels. Instead its either you have enough viewers or you dont. And the ones that do have enough viewers are typically just really good at putting on a show - because thats what grifters are good at. I like the idea of the platform, I wish it could work because I like the idea of selling singles for fair market value through livestream; it could be efficient enough for the seller that the buyer would end up paying less on average due to the increase in efficiency. But it seems to me they've just made it another social media platform where the most disingenuous people thrive.
kinda feels like this is a jaded take. as a small streamer on the app it takes alot more effort to grab people from the massive streams that can sell cards lower and still profit. if i have to do psa slab prizes or pull games to build a community why do i have to be labeled sleezy for it

They've reached out to me to get setup on Whatnot, but I honestly don't see the attraction. It seems like a lot of extra work, and I'd rather just list on TCG Player or eBay🤷♂️
I felt the same way. BUT, for me it is about the interaction with the people. Plus, it makes the shipping easy because of how they setup the shipping.
Whatnot is also good at moving product, and getting people to your social media pages to grow a community etc. I am 2 stream in and a I like it. I only do about 1-2 streams a week for about 2-3 hours. I dont overprice my things they're all reasonable and the raffle system is just an incentive to get people excited about winning more on top of the product the buy and the stuff I throw into their orders for free.
I was bummed when I read the title of the video, but I understand where you’re coming from. I too am hopeful the market will settle down and the “hype” streamers will be flushed out so that the real collectors can stand out with good product at reasonable prices. I can say that I spent thousand of dollars and it's not worth it because you are hooked to the gambling and by the way I hit three big times and strangely the items didnt arrived or was stolen. after looking at it from the side I understood I have a problem and looking at all the money spent there I feel very stupid since the odds of winning if you dont have unlimited budget are slim

I've been scammed by frankies comics, sending me receipts no signed comic book, then both what not and frankies said the order is completed. I've witnessed sellers selling frauded items. Such as $1000 empty cgc case, saying amazing transparent comic key #1, I've seen what not sellers using their phone to stream while driving, I can't legally use my phone and GPS while driving, but they can break all laws to sell nft funkos

I'm not gonna lie I paid 50$ for 4 packs of brilliant stars 2 weeks early. People were getting almost 450$ per booster box.

I’ve been on whatnot for 2 years and I can definitely say it has changed big time. Has it changed for the better I’m not so sure. I used to run singles and start them at a dollar but not anymore I was losing way too much money. I’m on another platform now and have everything pretty much at market price which people seem to appreciate.
What's the other platform?

Well this sucks, you were the only Pokémon channel I bought from on that app. I enjoyed the Wednesday and Sunday streams and knew you were honest in your card conditions. Are you going to be adding those vintage cards to your website?
I can’t see whatnot lasting, but my opinion. I think it’s a good call for you to concentrate on what works and what got you to this successful level you’re at now.
SELLERS ARE CLAIMING CHASE CARDS PULLED NOT BEING FOUND AFTER STREAM AND REFUND BUYER. LIKE WOW?!
I am not comfortable supporting the more popular UA-camrs on Whatnot as I feel they are using their audience for squeezing more $$$ from them.
I missed that you were even on there. I would have joined. I was accepted a while ago and it almost is way hard to sell things for value anymore but I watch rooms and theyr over selling simple stuff so yeah Im feeling what your feelin. there needs to me more people buying than selling. i think right now its lopsided to more sellers than buyers for some reason. There definitely are some bad streamers and some that might do shady things. But there are alot of good people and streamers. There are definitely good deals and cards that can be hard to find found way below TCG especially for the condition. Don't blame the many because of the actions of a few.
It's the actions of the many almost every streamer is gambling games there's only a few single card streamers

I agree. I was bully for my vintage collection. And stalk in my other social media account for other personal collection. Planning to leave it soon.
I get it, honeslty as a seller I feel like it doesnt make sense. I go on whatnot to find deals, not to pay extra. So as a buyer it is great, but is really risky for sellers.
I am trying to do this also but I might have to think about it.... I might do it every once in a month like a way where people still know I will have a stream but I am not going to be addicted to it I have a few misprinted lego troopers I want to sell... what are your thoughts as a reseller should I do it only once and a month?
I feel like its more of a social thing thats where i have the most fun with whatnot. I think the Comunity on there is growing in that way
I've always got dodgy vibes from the platform. Live auctions don't give anyone time to do the research on what they should be paying for cards and yes, it's the responsibility of the person paying to only bid what they can afford but the live aspect and hosts really don't help in peer pressuring people into paying more than they should.
on the contrary, you can also find steals. Sometimes the seller doesn't know the market or even anything about pokemon in general, or people just low balling and the seller just seems desperate for money.
The single card streams aren't the issues it's the duck races and gambling addiction and sellers saying pack fresh but meaning nm
@@Doors067 its all at your own risk though, we all know what we are gettin ourselves into and the risk. People need to use their own judgement and caution, and also know when and when not to bid. Duck races, wheels, and stuff like that are all just extra bonus games to get people to play and participate, I don’t see the harm in that. We all know the out come of the games, its all random and risky just like packs of pokemon cards.

Whatnot is going to destroy a lot of great local card and retro Video game stores that have taken root in communities over the last 10 years. How you ask? Lots of big youtubers are simply going into these card and game shops (often times with Whatnot money), literally buying up all their inventory of top end items (usually at a discounted rate because they are buying such a large quantity), then taking those items out of the local community and selling it at a markup on Whatnot. This is often spun as "We're helping out our local stores by doing this", but I really think these owners should stop and think about the longterm effects. I know if I had a retro game store near me that I knew a youtuber came in once a week and dropped 10K buying up all the good stuff, I would stop going to that store, because all that will ever be left is the scraps.

The shipping prices are without discount. You spend so much in shipping thar makes it not worth it.
i see alot things of things on whatnot stuff i can see that it can be too much for a seller to just sell when you got so many competitors ive sign up the app to sell on whatnot its been a week ive been collecting cards since 1983 from mlb,nba,nfl,comics and then in the 90s pokemon and coins and i thought about it how am i going just get ppl to come to my store if i was to sell since theres so many big sellers competitors so i met a few sellers and spread the word out and now i have 300 ppl following maybe because my collection i have is so massive and and very high value from t205 set,1950-1961to 89 topps baseball full sets,1981-89nba fleer, hoops full sets and packs etc pokemon 1st edion sets base ,neo,evo all the way to evolving skies full sets i quit pkoemon and then the modern sport right now its just too much for me i really strain myself out to point where i have pain i have 1 room for my pc so many card stack up that i cant get in the room im trying to get of ever cards and comics in my posession that ive been hoarding most of my life i never went out never socialise with ppl all i did was collect and sometimes i regret collecting so many years inside never going out other than that its hard to let go but i feel its the right thing to do something i love doing so much i hate it now its time to let go and go outside and see the world thanks for the video good to know

Found that website a couple days ago and it was nearly all gambling with wildly bad values and fomo gimmicks. Found 1 seller auctioning singles i got a good deal on but was only by sniping on a quiet stream.
I hope one day play some games at your card shop and get some cards thatll hold some good memories
I like whatnot, but I avoid all the breaks, gambling style games, etc. I prefer the singles sellers.

idk i can see both pointof views the duck race is a gamble but it helps the sellers if you want to support them and also if the cards go a little higher on price ppl got to think of the work behind shipping the cards. but i do agree that its alot of ppl selling now
Yeah I notice lately some hosts even pressure you like ‘oh no one is interested? ok, I’m going to end the stream then.’ They can just accept it and move on the next item than to guilt trip us lol. These are good points, maybe it’s something I should reconsider if I return back on whatnot

At first whatnot was amazing and it was a place to go to get a great deal for both seller and buyer but now it's shill bidding gambling and a lot of untrust worthy sellers and buyers .... I see cards and games going for 2x-10x what it's really worth... idk it's real fishy and I stinks

I’ve won 2 giveaways. Their not completely “free”. You have to pay 20-50 cents, but for what I got it was worth it
@@ThatwasaSTRIKE as a seller it's not free..this is what I am referring to. I know if you have around the world sales settings you will pay for that huge overseas shipping from USA to a winner. I shipped a blush 20 years ago to Denmark and it cost 30.00.

If it's an auction, how are people taking advantage of anyone? They are literally bidding what they are willing to pay. There is also no "unfairness" for someone to use physical attributes to sell something, a lot of companies do that. It sounds like you got discouraged and gave up... Get back on that pony and ride it hard!

As a buyer on whatnot I'm oftern finding deals cheaper than I can get online or near me otherwise if people want to spend who are we to say otherwise some people willing to pay more at the mall it about trusting the buyer and being happy with the product if you really angry about people wasting money go protest outside a casino 🎰

This idea that it’s okay to pay more because “it’s my favorite influence” is just a different type of shill bidding. And those same people buying those items expect them resell those items for more than they paid. But that isn’t how card secondary markets should work.

Look I've been checkin you out since last year when out started out with your tour videos and I've got to say you have a way of narrating things that I believe make you stand out and judging by your viewership growth they think soo to. You shouldn't stop man your videos are awesome and we feel every second of effort you put into it every time
The video was extremely helpful cuz I just got approved last week to sell on what not and can't sleep over debating wether I should try it with my personal products or find out easier partnering with a store , work out a spread sheet and % amount and just sell for stores. I feel like an indy dealer would have more time on there hands to manage a what not platform then a store does. Considering the fact they have volume and massive inventory, it shaves the dealer time in hunting it themselves every week.

What not is not good and i don’t like it, 1, price is way to high even tho let say, you bought the card on what not for $4 dollar and they will say ooo you stole~~ whatever then there is fee and shipping fee and cards come way too late 2,people is not showing back of the card if it’s card got damage or not 3, too many japanese pokemon card wth…
eBay takes out way more fees and screws folks out even more then whatnot. Granted whatnot consist of good and bad but fees are fees for a reason and I rather give whatnot there fees and make life easy to sell then give ebay fees and get scammed
