I dont get why people dont understand the nature of her actions. Its always avout control and loss. To her heroes invite either danger in of itself(i mean look at Batman) or they cant be controlled and still can invite chaos. She acknowledges the power of metas and vigilantes, its why she uses the amazos and the squad the way she does.
People don't want to admit that governments are about control, even in their fiction. People who work in government can only be working for the greater good in those eyes.
See, I get that, but only because of the larger context of how the character's been written for years. This comic doesn't give me that; it presents a misguided hypocrite who is doing the opposite of what she should be doing. In a bubble, this just makes it seem like she's going after vigilantes instead of the corrupt politicians, businessmen, and criminals who are actually responsible for the systemic issues that invite the existence of vigilantes. These vigilantes are trying to fill a gap that the laws can't fix. If I were to retroactively use this slightly altered iteration of her composite backstory, it reframes everything to make her worse- because she's still siding with the people who disenfranchised both the populace and people like her husband, who shouldn't have had to become a vigilante to get Justice (actually vengeance in this case, not even real justice).
My issue with Waller's rational as well as the rational for anyone who follows it (ie Lex Luthor, Sinestro, etc) is that in her attempt to correct an injustice (world in chaos/governments ineffective or corrupt, vigilantes running around w/impunity, etc) she is intentionally or unintentionally falling into the same mindset. The belief that only her vision of right/wrong is correct, her vision of safety is the only true safety and that she never has to hold herself accountable to anyone or anything. Extreme control or extreme freedom are both dangerous concepts and require a need for balance. I did like that this series is trying to portray the human element more of Amanda Waller but I'm not sure I'd give her or others like her a pass on their actions.
I’m going to call shenanigans on The Wall’s reasoning, especially when comparing Joe Waller’s action to Batman. Batman didn’t kill Joe Chill, Waller (although justified) killed Candyman. There has been stories about Batman going against other vigilantes who jump the gun (no pun intended) in taking down people, as he states that he gathers as much evidence as he can to help the charges stick, but what happens after that isn’t up to him. Also he points out his No Kill Rule, and there has been stories as to what he has in place if he goes against it. All in all, I feel that Waller’s reasoning is contrived and DC is trying to shoehorn an explanation to make her a sympathetic villain, but the mental gymnastics to do so is too much. That being said, I still want “The Wall Is Right” shirt, even if I still think she is being too extra 😂
In the end both are vigilantes. To that end, Waller's right. But indeed her husband went one step too far, he had nothing to add beyond a body. This is a case of entitlement to justice. It took Bruce what, a decade or more, before he had enough evidence to come in, beat down Chill without killing, and provide him and the evidence to the cops? But Mr Waller's act of just busting in and assaulting the guy with no proof, much worse killing Candyman, is just blind justice. The difference is Batman earned his acknowledgement through his no-kill rule, Mr Waller didn't and hence it backfired. Do I hate Waller? No. Can I blame her husband's action? No. Does it make it right? No. Was Batman's actions 'better'? Yes, although assault is an argument to be held against Batman, it's on a whole different dimension from Murder in the First Degree. Do we know if they'd deny any insurance payout if Bruce died that day? No. We can only assume, and one's decision on if they would comes from one's own interpretation on the scenario.
@@katomamundara8106 The fact is, there is a three-tiered judicial system. We're familiar with the racial tiers, driving while black and all that, but there's also a higher tier for rich and influential people like Bruce Wayne, who can commit crimes with impunity. Or, you know, Donald Trump. I can see how she'd feel the way she does. Does that mean she's right? No. the cases are different. And I wouldn't be surprised if in those days, some of the cops were on the take. Hell, some of Gotham's cops are on the take even now. While Gordon on the other hand pals around with vigilantes, even when they invite children into the lifestyle. I would love to see her opinion of the Reverse-Flash, a criminal whose entire motive is his hatred for the Flash. (But this being Central City, everyone is like "How can you hate the Flash?"")
Got to know Waller in Ostrander's Suicide Squad. Genuinely liked her arc there as someone while driven to make a difference knew her limits and showed the most amount of care for her staff even the Squad not only the physical but mental despite being standoffish. Not to mention, she mainly kept volunteer heroes around because The Wall believed she needed assistance in keeping her conscience. To the point where Waller wasn't afraid to speak up to officials if they overstepped their bounds like propping up a Central American dictator. It all came with layers to her actions. Until some creatives decided to make her the face of the US government getting their grubby little paws in everything.
In addition, they showed she had other family and was involved in their lives. Her niece actually worked at Bellereve and was in live with the Bronze Tiger. It showed that she was very human. This modern version sucks.
Yeah, I don't want to, but blerd I kinda do see the Wall's reasoning. Someone on this comment pages disagrees, pointing out that Batman didn't kill Joe Chill, while Joe Waller did kill Candyman, so they're not alike. Which is true, but both men did take the law into their own hands. And one guy is a lionized hero, a charter member of the Justice League. The other is an afterthought, who would have been tossed in jail if he hadn't died during the battle with Candyman. Yeah, there is a certain discrepancy here.
The real issue is the corrupt and inept policemen, politicians, and businessmen who protect criminals in exchange for money and power. Amanda Waller could use her connections to clean up the streets and remove corrupt politicians. This would reduce the need for 99% of the vigilantes. Instead, Waller controls the criminals, makes shady deals with evil businessmen, destabilizes entire foreign governments for her own interests, and collaborates with corrupt politicians to target those who address the gaps that the existing systems refuse to or cannot address. She's a hypocrite of the highest order and deeply corrupt. The difference between heroes like Batman and Green Arrow versus her husband isn't just that they don't kill people; it's that they actively aid police investigations to dismantle crime lords and drug rings, gathering evidence as legally as possible. There's a reason Gotham police generally support Batman and despise the Red Hood, a known murderer. It's not their job to be judge, jury, and executioner. If her husband had apprehended Candyman with evidence instead of killing him, he'd be celebrated as a hero instead of being dismissed as a statistic. But his treatment as a statistic is not the fault of superheroes; it's a political and societal issue. There was a way to address this without making Waller look bad, and I see shades of what could've been, but this wasn't it.
I believe it has already happened. The Brainiac Queen is smarter than Waller is and she put herself in a 20 year long simulation with that thing.Waller thought she was turning the Queen into a tool but it was the other way around.
This issue seems that the police and officials do not care about the case experienced by Amanda Waller. Because her husband took his own action for the death of his daughter and Amanda Waller hated her husband's actions. Actually, Amanda Waller just wants to ask for justice in the case that happened to her husband and daughter. But with the police and officials not caring about her, that's what makes Amanda Waller look Paranoid and take action on her own.
When you? Put it like that. She shouldn't really be going after the heroes.Or the villain she needs to go off to the broken justice system which she actually could do if she wanted to
So Amanda Waller is on of The Boys now. Before she was just some government bureaucrat that used super villains to covert missions as deniability for the government.
I mean, it makes sense. Both of them are control freaks. Both of them can't have no more relationships anymore because of tragedy and both of them are willing to do horrible things
I can’t help but feel like Waller is incredibly hypocritical. Plus if the Magicians can’t remember how to use Magic, wouldn’t that mean any and all evil can go crazy with no one to stop them?
