Jimmy Broadbent which feels more like an actual car, the thrustmaster tmx pro or the Logitech g920?
im running a T150 PRO and it feels great and the price tag wasnt over the top, a great entry level wheel
have you played american truck simulator
havent tried it since i got the wheel, i tried euro one a while ago though
should i get big TV or dual monitor?
Well, i've got a G27 and Euro Truck Simulator 2, but i'm always driving over the speed limit. Guess that makes me a sim racer of sorts.
Formula 1:The heavyweight edition
is there any other way to play ETS2, especially online?
There is a multiplayer mod called Trucker'sMP.
aha i have a g29 and i do the same thing XD
same xD
Come on Jimmy, you forgot two major steps... 1) increase credit card limit 2) ignore friend and family
I can strongly advise that these 2 steps are a must. One because well .... it's obvious, and two, they wouldn't understand anyway.
You forgot one other thing, you can ignore the other half when she gets mad at seeing how much you’ve spent your setup
Helped to build the entire rig over 5 years before meeting mine :)
+1 " its an offical race go away "
just go to the pub for a few weeks and she will see its still cheaper than the pub bahahaha
Thought the getting started in sim racing was great. I'm 62 and have been gaming on and off for approx 40 years, I retire recently and got into sim racing about 6 months ago and love it.
good for you! nice to see some veteran gamers :)
Ahhh yes the ancient sim racers
As someone staring the crest of the hill right in the eye. Your post gives me hope.
ok
Respect... I'm 47, just had to finish work last year as injury is playing up, now getting back into it, going to 're buy the oculus rift as sold it couple years back after I moved, but now I'm stuck at home until further notice I need to entertain myself, and racing helps fill that void..
Bought a G29 and a playseat one week ago, already have played Project Cars 2 (PS4) for more than 48 hours, and now finally fully without driving aids. Damn, it’s addicting! Had my first few pole positions online... that adrenaline rush! Damn! Someone should’ve warned me.
Project Cars 2 is not a joke i really like that game but the cars are to hard to drive compare to Gran Turismo series
@@jerryk7862 Cars match more the real driving yeah, you should try Assetto Corsa Competizione, even harder, but so much more fun
@@PhO3NiX96 I have Assetto Corsa and i like it. Now what i don't like about Project Cars 2 is the FFB compare to AC & GTS other than that they are all 3 of them are very fun to play with.
@@jerryk7862 watch some videos about pc2 ffb.there are some ways to make it good (don´t know how,i don´t have pc2)
In my opinion, cars in PC2 are way too understeery. You often simply cannot take a corner at nearly the same speed as in real life, just because the grip is somehow worse or the car suddenly understeers for no reason. If this would be resolved, I would have no cpmplaints whatsoever for that game.
Still, I like it a lot and it is a major improvement to its predecessor, so we can only hope for PC3 being better in that regard.
IF YOU'RE ON PC & WANT SIMS
WAIT FOR STEAM SALES BOIS
Humble Bundle has sales as well right now for AC and its packs, PC2 and Dirt Rally. (and some other games, but these are the big sim racing ones)
Or just use piratebay lmao
The Sims is purchased on Origin :]
Jaime Løve Hansen Nice to know. I don't really enjoy the Sims, but I love to play the Sim Racing games. >:] -lmaodon'ttakeasinsult-
Yeah,on the last steam sale i got Assetto corsa ultimate edition, dirt rally and dirt 4 for $18
"sim racing career", nah dude, it's an actual racing driver career. Congrats my dude, you deserve every single thing you have!
Watching this 3 years later. Lol I just love that in the thumbnail theres a HOTAS setup.
I wasn't able to race for the last 3-4 years due to lack of funds and the rising price in racing wheels. Recently went to a thrift store and they had a Driving Force Pro for sale for $7. No Power cord, but I bought it. Brought it home, didn't have a power cord to fit it. It sat in my floor for about a week as I waited for my cord to arrive from amazon for $13. Plugged up the cord, wheel calibrated and has been running fine ever since. Got a driving force pro for $20. What a steal, I think!
This is my "FINALLY, GOOD LUCK!!!" story. Lol.
Justice dude that's so awesome!!! 👏 👏
nice, similar to mine, i bought my wheel in at site that sell "random pc whell " for 8€ and free shipping , and it arrived a literally brand new (still with plastic badge covers) Driving Force Pro, it's very noisy, with some dead zone in the middle and the pedals are shit ( after 1 minute i opened the pedal box and stiffened up the springs ) but after years of KB and few months with a Thrustmaster Red Legend ( T80 ) 180 degres and no ffb (sold for 5 time the price of the DFP), made this wheel very nice.
I'm like 90% sure I saw you post this story on Reddit in r/Simracing right lol.
I don't think so. I don't comment on the simracing section of reddit. I post in the iRacing section from time to time but don't recall posting about the racing wheel over there. I may have, though. That's been a couple of months ago now that I've had the wheel lol.
Justice WHAT THE FUCK
If i need to spend 10 000 $ for a simulator gear i will just buy old BMW e36 modify and drive like a maniac
Masterpox where would you drive it and how long til it’s broken lol
e36 for 10k thats not rusty or so well driven in that the motor has lost atleast 60hp is pretty hard to find. also e36 is a good track car only whit another engine bmw engines are notoriously bad for any kinda track use on long term they need literal daily maintenance to not shit itself. not to mention if you keep the stock engine tuning parts and replacement parts are so expensive that you are better off just swapping the engine to something like ls2 or 1jz or 2jz which parts are common as shit and easier to maintain. again this is not a jab at e36 as a whole the cars chassis is extremely good for track and drift when setup correctly just the motor is a steaming pile of shit if you try to do anything other than showoff to people or daily drive
don't forget track day costs, tyre costs, petrol costs, brake pads, fluids.
If you don't have to pay for track time, petrol, parts, crew, then certainly.
koruki If you wanna be like that don't forget electricity costs, game prices, WiFi costs to download the games and software, etc
Legend for making this vid Jimmy. Down to earth and your ability to explain things in a way that everybody will understand is top notch
god like 3 years later and you're still the most helpful person ever. so nice thank u bruh
100% agreed
Step 1: Empty wallet
Step 2: Get fast!
Step 4: Win
Step 2:
Step 3: profit !!
Step 6: VR vomit
Step 7: eat pant
On the note of Assetto Corsa, it's currently £8.50 or so on humble bundle's store. Extreeeemely worth it
So even if you can't get your wheel or whatnot yet, you may as well pick it up, as that's the cheapest I've ever seen it! Though, I've only been PC gaming for just over a year
Matt Bennett i got mine like 4 months ago for 15 or sth like that with all the dlc
2.5$ rn for normal and 9$ for ultimate lmao
Lol I just got ultimate edition for 8 pounds and I am bad at the game
a year ago this was the video that got me hooked on this amazing channel. Cheers jimmy!
Jimmer you are a lad, love this, shared it on facebook! Hopefully we can hook more people into this awesome hobby!
Oh my god, i'm so thankful that you have done this video !!! It is so helpfull. Thanks Mate, have a good one.
I like how you go in depth about the world of Sim Racing and just how many different paths you can take. Its really nice to see that you don't just go in it through a pure "elitist" perspective which too many I believe try to pull on others.
I plan on getting me a wheel soon (probably a DFGT or T150) and just getting some laps in various cars and tracks on Assetto Corsa, which has been my personal favourite as of late... but yeah playing that with controller isn't particularly great. Just getting started with a controller on games like Forza and Gran Turismo though is a very good starting point, and I'm glad I wasn't alone on that thought here. :)
Great video my dude.
Hi, just an FYI, please don't get a Thrustmaster T-150, I have one and have had a total of 5 of them in just over a year because the all keep breaking.
The first wheels clamp broke, the second one's motor went bad, the third one's clam also broke, the forth one almost caught on fire and right now I am on my fifth one.
Thank God for warranty's
T150 is a great wheel. Been using mine for 2 years and it's compatible with the T3PA Pro pedals and shifter should you want them later on. Plus you can configure the degrees of rotation from the control panel (among other things which is nice)
You really nailed what I wanted to say. Jimmy explains things for beginners very well!
Jack Harrison what the hell are you doing with your wheel dude? You putting FFB to 100% on every setting? Genuinely had zero problems with mine and it gets at least 4 hours a night of use
Honestly besides the cost of sim rigs and software, the Elitist Sim fanboy part of the community really has kept me away from wanting to play sim racing stuff. They just seem to shit on anything that isn't their favorite sim and just spout off at Forza Players and, to a lesser extent, GT players, I think most of us get that Forza and GT aren't hardcore sims, they're Sim Games rather than Simulators, they put more focus on having more plausible physics and more of the experience of driving a car than Need For Speed or The Crew but don't have the realism and depth of something like Rfactor or iRacing. It's honestly great to see someone like Jimmy break this stuff down and actually explain what you need for a half decent Sim Rig that doesn't cost a couple kidneys, and also how to transition into the world of PC Sim Racing by learning the basics in console Simcade games.
Love the retro 80s synth music at the end( it should be background in all vids)🎯. And good content man👊🍻
It's also so inportant to have fun !!!
Also, I love how you sat the letter 'S'.
Keep up the GREAT work !!!
Maybe Part II about how/where/what series or leagues to participate in? From beginners perspective, something about availability of seats, opponent levels, race difficulties etc. To not just join random lobby in one of the sims.
Can't go wrong with a Logitech G29
It seems to be the sweet spot for newbies that aren't sure about spending $600 yet. I plan to buy the G29. And if I am too fucking retarded to drive sims, I can give it to a nephew or some desperate and poor prodigy.
I agree completely
I got a T150 with the better pedals which is very similar to the g29 and I agree it's the smart thing to do.
i might get a g920 used for 250cad worth it?
@@rxNova Hey Buddy, not sure if you bought your wheel but Bestbuy has it at 299.99 right now
cool man, thanks ...i just asked you about this whole topic in another video of yours
holy moly there is a lot to consider in putting one of these rigs together, let the fun begin
i've been subbed to you for a long time but to be honest never really watched you that much untill i got into sim racing. now you became my favorite :) im getting a g29 soon upgrading from my old wheel.
Two words: Steam Sales. Steam Sale Steam Sale Steam Sale Steam Sale! I’ve waited patiently for 3 months and I’ve saved well over $500 on sims. Keep in mind that I’ve probably spent $300 including PC2 with the season pass at full price.
1 word: piracy :^)
huahuahuahua huehuehuehue boiii
lol look on g2a.com scored a steam code for dirt rally for $12 instead of the 60 steam was asking, saved money and didn't have to go through the hastle of setting up a vpn to make sure i didn't get sued trying to pirate a video game
@@ZombieByte dirt rally during g2a sale got it for about 4 euros
Or use a VPN to take advantage of regional pricing. My account is worth 3k when I spent about 500
iRacing is not the 13.99$ a month, its you have to pay for like every single freakin´ car
That is moving into rc controlled airplane country right there.
Just pay $100 for a year
Really appreciate the advice. Definitely do more introductory videos like this. So many options for wheels, pedals, etc... someone new like me can get a little lost before I even get started. Again, thanks.
Great stuff for a (semi) beginner like me! Thanks and this is what the community needs man.
I got my DFGT for 40 quid, they were going for 60 on ebay used. Dont regret it
Why am I watching this as a college student living in a cramped dorm paying thousands for tuition a few weeks before finals?
@Brankend Exams done, got A's in all of them except a D in the other one lol
Good luck on your exams and may the almighty curve be on your side!
because sometimes life is a little more than a college degree ;)
Thanks Jimmy, this content was really helpful, hope you continue to create more videos of this nature.
Superb. Cheers pal. This is a must watch for us that are new to this. Love the vids. Saving to get into it now.
I would rather recommend buying second-hand Logitech G27 rather than DFGT even for beginners. With G27 you will get metal pedals with clutch and manual shifter (quite basic but still fine) so you can stick with this setup for longer time in comparison with very limited capabilites of Driving Force GT. Also the G27 has much better FFB and overall feel & solid build quality / reliability, there are lots of mods available. G29 / G290 is too overpriced and for that price I would recommend T300 instead.
Yes, you can start with something really cheap like MS SideWinder Force Feedback Wheel like I did...but when I switched to G27, I got immediately better times due more precise pedals (braking) and FFB (ability to drive more on the edge) and now have problem to sell that MS Wheel..
Plastic you mean
I can currently get the G29 for £150. Is it a worthwhile upgrade over my DFGT?
@@98dizzard absolutely
@@98dizzard hope you got it mate or something better
Jimmy is best boi, confirmed.
Mister GiGs, Nice avatar!
Mister GiGs, also, Best Boi = Jimmy Birbent!
Yea agree, he explains everything to us , easy to understand.
Thanks for making this. Just ordered a wheel after researching on some of the sites you mentioned. Been playing with a controller before.
I had no idea that you had a discord, let alone an awesome, active one. Amazing! Joined, and loving it
I am already a pretty heavy pc player, when I wanted to try sim racing I bought aG29 with shifter, and paired it with my Vive. I’d say that’s created a pretty awesome set up for me :)
I highly recommend starting with Automoblista if you want to race offline. It's cheap, has tons and tons of cars and tracks and the FFB is incredibly natural.
Highly recommend NOT to do that... cars that nobody has waited for, physics questionable, FFB not really realistic (iRacing or PCars2 feel much more natural). It has the worst UI ever, most ugly graphics and tracks no one knows except you are Brazilian. Better start with Assetto Corsa, PCars 2 or Raceroom Experience.
@@iseeq72 I second project cars 2 out asseto Corsa
I managed to get started on a budget. On eBay there are numerous companies selling old office computers that they have recycled with extra RAM, new HDD and a slightly upgraded graphics card... is just about enough to get started with and was only £148! I then got a Logitech G920 wheel when Amazon had them at £199. I made myself a basic rig - literal cost was zero. I can plug the wheel in to my Xbox, but actually spend most of my time in RaceRoom. It may not look the best (especially on my second hand ex-office PC) but I love the DTM content!
there is a reason we watch you mate.your the man of the hour..funny talented and quick...sim racing is the way forward
My problem is the price of the wheels pedals and shifters
mine was and still is to find greek simracers in greece
the only person i have is my cousin which lives with two other bigger sisters so he cant afford such things as i do and he doesnt have a pc and or ps plus neither he doesnt have the sims that i have and he has a wheel worth 100 euros instead of mine that costs around 350

Just kidding. You could always bring the money argument. Sim racing is much cheaper than real life lapping. Been there done both!
Thanks for this video Jimmy! A good follow-up to this might be some notes about how to play online multiplayer in each sim - how much to prepare (or not), how to gauge the skill level of race from its listing, etc. I, for one, took a peek at multiplayer in AC a while back and was pretty overwhelmed, so I just went back to the usual "trying to learn how to keep the shiny side up" challenge.
Cheers Jimmy, helped me a bit with the wheel choice. Gonna be buying one in the near future, so thank you!
Loved the video.
Can you do a "how to get started streaming" maybe?
Asking for a friend.
First things first, get dem dollas
Very Helpful and entertaining as usual, it's good you're not a racing elitist.
I'll soon be racing again once i finish my rig, i have project cars 2 and assetto corsa but doubt i'll be as good as you but i'll work on it.
Many thanks

Love your content Jimmy. Always trying to be helpful and share your knowledge. Guys like you and Empty Box are inspired me to start my own channel sharing the setups I make to help the ones I can. Keep it up!
Helpful video Jimmy.
I was just wondering, I have an Xbox One but not enough money for a decent PC. Would it be fine if I bought a wheel that can work with both my Xbox and a PC so when I get a PC I can start with that wheel?
And as I currently use a gamepad, would you recommend me playing Forza 6 or Project Cars to learn from for now (I have both)?
Thanks in advance.
There are plenty of wheels out there that can be used with Xbox and pc, for example the logitech g920 and the thrustmaster tmx/tmx pro. Those are the wheels I'm looking at getting started with :)
Fallen Maniac absolutely, I went with the Logitech G920 as it’s made for pc and Xbox one just so i can play on both. I think there’s other wheels out there that are also compatible with Xbox but I highly recommend it to someone who wants to start out sim racing
Thanks for the reply mate. I'll look at those wheels and hopefully I'll get one.
Thank you for the reply T_FALCON. I'll have a look at it.
I find Forza helps learn the basics very well. I play with a Thrustmaster TX, personally.
My G29 wheel cost $350 canadian, so like $20 american (hahaha our dollar is crap) brand new and on sale. I bought an oculus DK2 used for $100, then my PC cost $1000 and is VR ready. So for lets say $1500 I got a VR racing sim setup :D
thank you Jimmy!! I am a massive sim fanatic and i have lived in realistic games such as richard burns rally forza 4, gran turismo 5, gt legends but all on keyboard and with an xbox controller... Thank you for introducing the assetto corsa and project cars 2 in such a professional way- because of you i will now have to buy myself logitech g920 wheel, pedals and shifter, pluss an omega stand for some propper sim racing- long live the all mighty broadbent- youre presentation is flipping brilliant
I want to say thank you for helping me pick the right steering wheel. I got on a second hand site (for Belgium) and was able to pick the Logitech up for 50 euros :) Thanks!
if u wanna buy t150 then go for t150 pro which has actually decent set of pedals with a clutch

Nice one Jimmy, I used to take part in race2play leagues on Rfactor back in 2011 ish and it was a lot of fun, despite having a cheap Thrustmaster Ferrari Challenge wheel. I've been wanting to get back into simracing for a while and this will definitely help!

Dang bro $$$
I like that you make an effort to describe the appeal of driving games as a matter of car control.
There's terrific racing available in sim and arcade games alike, but sim racing especially appeals to those that enjoy striving for the perfect lap. It's not about sawing away at a wheel, it's about getting a little more time out of the car, and out-driving your opponent.
Iracing. The world of warcraft of sim racing. (I will probably trigger everyone)
Like when you used to drive with a gamepad in a real sim
Grateful! Guys like you help grow the sim and gaming scene and make it easier for the newcomers
Fantastic video I am new to sim racing and loving every minute it's good to see that I'm on the right path but still learning circuits I'm not very comfortable going online yet because I don't want to ruin anybody else's experience but I can't wait to be competitive
well first of all, avoid pathetic cash grab pseudo simulators, like Project cars
Ragna Rock just buy gt sport. You only pay for the game
I'm pretty sure Jimmy mentioned you early in the video...
I think biggest hurdle is the community side of things - so much more enjoyable if you know you have friends racing too and they can help you practice. I live in New Zealand and play GT Sport on the Asia/Pacific servers. The drivers I am racing against are almost exclusively Japanese who don’t speak English so it’s hard to get any sort of rapport going.
My wheel works with computer too so I was planning on having a go at some sims but I would have so much lag and I don’t want to ruin anyone else’s experience by warping all over the track.
I am envious of what you have with all those great friends to race in a team together but I am mostly grateful that you are taking us all along for the ride!
Yes, Jimmer!! I loved this vid!
I'm not new to "SimRacing", but I am new to racing on PC (followed the same basic roots that you did) and would love to see another video similar to this one, but moving forward from the beginner stages. Maybe cover some more enthusiast-targeted hardware, and possibly suggest some more community/forum stuff. I love racing, but find it hard to get in to the community, and am a bit lost in terms of figuring out where to go next with my set up/looking for people to race with.
As always, love your content, brother! I'll support you every chance I get! See you on your next live stream!!
Thanks for this, Jimmy. I appreciate your opinion on these things! Side note, I'm in the process of upgrading from my Logitech DF GT and I couldn't agree more, it really is the best bang for your buck!
I have recently transitioned from gamped to wheel. Since my budget was practically non existent I had to go with a used generic plastic USB wheel with no force feedback or working buttons. With a few spare change I had, I bought new potentiometers, a soldering iron, some silicone grease and a Philips head screwdriver and spent hours polishing it back to working condition. Now I enjoy hours of fun in rFactor 1 with my old Pentium laptop doing my very own Nordschleife hot lap challenge inspired by you, Jimmy!
Always try to make the most of what you have.
This video was my jump into sim racing. I absolutely thank you for it. I use a Logitech g29 and a hand built box to sit in. I play just about every mainstream sim racing game, but absolutely love dirt rally. It has taken my passion for cars to a whole new level, and my skills transferred to real life driving quite quickly. Now my wallet is a black hole. :)
Thx for the video, really helps me out cause I had no idea where to start but now I do,😁
It just dawned on me you sound a lot like a young Murray Walker. Tremendous video, sir.
Recently got a Driving Force GT for about 50 quid and it has breathed new life into many of my old racing games both on console and PC, especially Gran Turismo.
I wanted to get into racing but the last time I was in a kart it was like 9 years ago and that was competitive. So I decided to try sim racing. This video was really informative
Thanks man, definitely very helpful video seeming that I am looking to get into the world of sim racing.
Hey Jimmer. Great introduction to sim racing! 100% agree on you with this guide.
Though I wish you had also talked a bit about how to mount the wheels. As I started simracing all I had was a G920 mounted on my PC desk and I used my office chair which moved around a lot when I used the pedals. For example you can get some decently priced stuff to strap your rig to your chair of choice to keep it still.
Anyways, good job. :)
Hey i got a gaming cpu chair. It moved around until i got a rug to put it under. Now i can lean back with the peddals on an angle. Feels goooood
I got a thrustmaster tmx for Christmas, so now I’m finally getting around to building a wooden rig for it.
Been playing racing games for 12+ years now and just recently bought the Thrustmaster TMX Pro with the TH8A shifter and oh my goodness my life has been changed. I've had more fun the past 2 months playing on the setup then in the years before that with a controller.
awesome work Jim
Started with a gamepad on rfactor1, found some very friendly German pro drivers during online practice, which inspired me to buy my first wheel, a Logitech Momo Racing. Things were never the same after and I love it. Now sporting a modded G27 and a custom made rig chassis made by a welder friend. AC, DR, rf2, rf1, WRC7, list goes on...
Great info Jim... Subscribed 👍
I've been considering the g920 setup for sometime, but after seeing this video, I feel confident in getting it. If the skills do transfer to even any degree than I certainly don't want to be on a gamepad any longer.
You are a cool guy Jimmy, I am going to get Heusinkveld pedals because of you
Hiya Jimmy. I've just started sim racing and I want to take the time to get used to sim racing, so I'm not expecting results immediately. I'm also saving money for the racing stand and wheel to go with it. Thanks for making such a detailed video jimmy mate 👍👍
Jimmy, you're fcking #1 in my books mate. Much love.
The folding seat is really amazing
I have recently bought a sim rig (used)and got a xbox one console and I am really enjoying playing Assetto Corsa and GT 7. It is quite a learning curve to drive in AC but I have a long way to go before I'm ready to race real player but I find the challenge to be very rewarding.
Thanks for the content Jimmy! Great vid. I'm new to sim racing , but not "real racing " . I'm all in on iRacing, but bounce back to AC for fun runs. Stateside I see tons of deals on Craigslist for wheel and pedal sets . I built my rig , almost all "like new" second hand stuff for pennies on the dollar. Recommend people start out on iRacing by sticking with the free content on iRacing before buying all the extra cars and tracks. Get fast before you upgrade !
I remember when I bought my first wheel, second hand. Found myself a Logitech DFGT for about 15 pound. Interesting note was, it was just used twice and in perfect shape. So yes, it can be done hella cheap and I felt it as a decent entry wheel. (especially for the money). Needless to say I go lucky.
Thx Jimmy! I just needed this!
Excellent work, jimmer!
Note for June 2020 for those who want to try iRacing: The subscription price is 50% off as of this comment. Really great video. Helped me two years on. Gonna order a G29 setup today.
I just started with Logitech Driving Force Pro + Assetto Corsa + Dirt Rally , and I have soo much fun !!!
Ive been racing on forza's and grandturismos till i made the switch 9 months ago to Pc Sim's like RF2 and Assetto Dirt rally which is when i found out i love Touring Cars, Started and learned quite a lot with a Logitech Driving Force gt Which i got decent with upgraded too a G920 3 months ago having the pedals higher quality has helped me get confident in the brakes making me a fairly competitive sim driver in a touring car anyway as ive started challenging some fast drivers and challenging for podiums and wins.
3:41 my grandfather had that
It’s nice to see it again
thnx Jimmy! great channel. subscribed!
