I did this training in 1972 and it saved my life in 2020. I was inspecting the damage Hurricane Sally did to my boat dock and my foot slipped off a cross member and my leg fell in between two cross beams. I fell backwards into the water and was hanging upside down with my foot wedged in the cross beams. My head and upper torso were under water, and I panicked at first , just pulling to get my foot free. All of a sudden I flashed back to the training I did .
Don't panic
Formulate a plan
Execute
I grabbed my pants and started to do stomach crunches to get my head out of the water . I was home alone so I knew not to waste my breath yelling for help. On my second crunch a wave hit me in the back and pushed me up enough to take the pressure off my foot. I jerked my foot free and swam side stroke back to the beach.
My knee was pretty jacked up but healing nicely. Many thanks to the Navy divers that ran the course . My grandkids thank them as well.
That's incredible, I'm so glad you're alright
Glad you survived!
Old timer still got that fight in him. Respect. 🫡
As soon as my nose gets filled with water, I feel like I'm in shock.
Same
I had to do this yesterday. Time of my life. It was so fun.
Then you'd die, they train us to overcome that mental fear and override our bodies natural response to not breath underwater, but you have to overcome that and take a breath from your air regulator or you'll fail or worse you'll pass and die in action. The first time you do it you're body never panics again.
@@CHADTHUNDERCOCK80085 fuck no that shit ain't fun, I had no problems unlatching or orientating myself upside down but it's not fun wearing everything and being weighed down and having to escape. Did they keep it spinning on you underwater? Fucking dicks kept the modular rotating underwater & we had to escape while it was rotating.
@@Shadoefax760 They didn't keep it spinning for us. Thinking about it, it's unrealistic to keep it spinning since the weight of the mbg and rotor head will keep it upside down. I thought it was fun for the experience and I loved the challenge of having to figure that shit out while weighted down, to each their own.
Wow. When I did this training it was just a steel caged seat, single seater, that the instructors would flip upside down. Never did the mocked up bird escape. Looks like much better training for our new Marines. Semper Fi and thank you to all who have served and are serving.
Had to do this in 1986 at Naval Aircrew Candidate School. 4 times once sighted main cabin door.
once blindfolded main cabin door.
Once nearest exit sighted .
And finally blindfolded nearest exit.
Its not as easy as people think.
Also it wasn't in slow mo we dropped than rolled so that it felt.like an actual water ditch.
That one’s the SWET (shallow water egress trainer), and it still gets taught. The one in this video is the MAET (modular amphibious egress trainer). I just did both of them today
They use the steel cage now as preparation for the dunker or certifying for HEEDs bottle. Went through it in early 2000's.
Did this today can honestly say it's not that bad just don't panic.
I was a poor swimmer in the Marine Corps.
you guys do it blind folded too? 5 dunks minimum different egresses...
@@Rao665 yes, not all of them will be conducted blindfold
@@Danmeon sweet. just wondering if that's the same everywhere. had to do it 2 extra times cause I messed up blind folded. not exactly fun.
@@Rao665 I actually loved it, weird to say.

So funny😐
Right when the water came in. I would have perished. 🤣
That brings back memories from my offshore days. If you didn't pass the training, then you would never get on a drilling rig. Serious training to go on the water
These guys are amazing with all this training. Its crazy what they do.
Great training; if you don’t train for combat, you’ll never be ready for these situations!
When we ask we’re the military budget goes. Here it is! This is a crazy amount of practical engineering to recreate a situation thats probably killed countless highly trained soldiers. Kudos to these people
Impressive ..and very important! 👏👏 thanks guys for all you do! Well done! 👏👏 much respect..shout out to my nephew 😎🏕⛰🏞🏜🌄

thank you everyone for your service 🇺🇸❤️
I hated the Helo Dunker. It seems so chill when you watch the video but it feels pretty disorienting.

Just did this today and almost drowned lol still passed though
Just did this training today. It was really fun tbh
Now all their shoes are going to squeak when they walk
It's honestly fun. If you pay attention during the brief and just relax you'll be fine.
This was the worst experience of my life idk what y’all are saying “it’s not that bad” 😭
Just completed mine today. It was fun!
Well done Marines.
Thats pretty darn cool... Down here in Brazil we do most of our amphibious training in the Amazon...
Finna be doing mine soon, watching this makes it not so bad lol.
Bro please tell me how you did. i gotta do one tommrow morning and I failed the first time cause I panicked!!
Its about time from former Lcpl Lawrence Talley we should have been getting this training and hand to hand combat training too! Pendleton and Okanawa too!
Honestly loved doing this
I just did this today, don't panic and you'll be fine!
Thanks Jarheads.
Just got done doing this, i had a little too much fun lol Just don't panic and you'll be fine.
This training cleans out your sinuses 😂 did it in 2020. Kept leaning down when I was getting ready to get in my shower and every time I came back up, water drained out. Basically just gotta get used to water going up your nose.
i've wondered about this for a long time. such as actors lying down in water. because your nose is connected with your throat, doesn't it go all the way into your throat and choke you? I had an incident where a friend gave me a "footie" while in a lake, eg helped lift me up so i could throw myself back-and i landed vertical on my back, some of the water went down my nose and into my throat (unless i sucked it in from the force of the impact) and i came up choking. I'd love some insight on this if you have time. Also, apologies to responding to a 2 year old comment but i'm really wanting to know the realities of it.
Isn’t it satisfying to watch this.
I came here after doing mine, I actually had fun.

I remember having to do these drills back in 90 during bootcamp. The one in a single seat. Was to represent a helo crashing in the water. But the one I had to do. You were seatbelted in. With a helmet that's blacked out. Sometimes, if they wanted to nice, they'd give you a count. Then flip you backwards. Sometimes a count...lol You had to unbuckle. Then go under a bar, to represent the helo door opened. Swim to clear. Seen many panic. The water wasn't even deep.
The blackout goggles confuse me, I never open my eyes in that chlorinated shit, anyways, it feels more like a mental hurdle more than anything.
@@swugward7872 yea the idea is just to disorient you as much as possible so in a real world scenario you’re used to being anxious. I’m not scared of water at all and I’m a great swimmer but this honestly gave me a ton of anxiety. Absolutely did not like being strapped in and turned upside down lol.
Cool...it worth trying to tackle a problem of a possible helicopter emergency landing in water it really worth the effort to teach the Marines to make up their minds & reacted in time considering all the indications of an emergency perhaps bad weather enter into it or an emergency during night time landing therefore must do that in order that if the worst comes to the worst some time each man knows exactly what to do in order less or no man could be lost
Nobody is gonna talk about how this dude is where a cap underwater?
Good Work👌🏼💀
On this day 2024/04/15 I have completed this nerve wracking training 😊
I’m of the generation where the military didn’t take this training seriously enough to enforce a 100% compliance. The number of times I got on a helo with barely any knowledge of how to use that O2 tank is terrible. 2 MEUs later is when the same 22 squadron crashed off the coast of Australia

I was army air crew and thought jumping fully loaded in the pool was bad enough. The egress trainer has always scared the pudding out of me.
They give out bottles now? I grew up in and around the water. But with the black out goggles, flipping you upside down, and having to wait 10 seconds for all movement to to stop. Makes you panic a bit the first few times.
Lost 8 Marine buddies from a 46 crash. I wish we had these breathers in the 80s.
Aqui no Brasil , o pessoal que vai trabalhar em plataforma de petróleo, faz esse curso para poder andar nas aeronaves.
I actually ditched at sea. The water ain’t so pretty. 😱 and it a lot more violent. You hit the water fast and hard when the lift fails.
Nice Job
That escalated quickly!
A bit different than when I went through it in Miramar but this is the grunt version. Aircrew doesn't have the luxury of HEEDs bottles in the dunker until requal. The swets trainer is the same though. Good times!
What the Marines are shown escaping from is a pseudo-helicopter body, not an AAV.
They need an AAV version of this
Oh... That is how mission impossible 6 making their film
很務實的訓練!
As an experienced diver, looks fun! Hahaha
nice that they have air
these guys get air tanks???? wtf! what ever happened to holding your breath? lol
They do hold your breath on some runs. The first like 2 or 3 is holding breath, then the other half is with tanks because nowadays in Helos you have an airtanks. They want to train with the airtank too so you know how to use it.
You get handed a "horse collar" or "horse shoe" it has an inflatable collar and the about 1 min of air. They give you that because if you crash and let's say you fall at a rate of 10 ft a second, and you're down for 10 seconds, you are already 100ft below surface. You aren't going to hold your breath the whole time of you ditching gear, climbing through a pitch black helo, find the exit, and also make it to the surface
@Kyle Reyes I did this in 2014 in hawaii. First few runs were with tanks... last few without (maybe vice versa, I cant remember anymore). They do have you use tanks.. every aircraft has them.. they expect you to know how to use it.
Did this this today in Hawaii, I drowned and died.
@Eric Velasquez same here.
👍I Loved it!
This is insane
When I was in the Corps we didnt have the luxury of goggles, or air breathers. Most of the time it was pure panic mode
The goggles are blacked out to simulate a night crash, not for keeping water out of your eyes.
stay calm.
Hell yeah. . Until it goes upside down. . Yeah. . Ima head out. .
🤣🤣😂👍🏻
I have to do this tomorrow. Dreading it.
Goggles😭 I was blindfolded
Water is like space
I so remember that
Still wearing the hat backwrds. The true Chad
It’s not that hard killers just don’t panic. Remember to find your air first then follow your steps.
Its like a Broken Washing Machine Rescue
Is this something every marine goes through or is it part of a swim course of what
Man if this were me I’d be scared because I know I’m about to get hella water in my ear
Lol you're scared of water getting in your ear, I'd drowned. Water in your lungs is probably worse than water in your ear 😂
Who else held their breath until they noticed they had air tanks?
Me lol
haha did this today, on the first run with the respirator mine didn’t clear right like three times since i forgot to tilt my head back so i was just inhaling water and choking while scrambling to undo my seatbelt and gtfo lmao
Looks like fun
I did this at Samson Tiara Training Centre in Indonesia,...Special Training T-Huet for OffShore workers.
Fiz muitas vezes. Macaé Brasil.

Good times. My buddy freaked out as soon as we started rolling back and somehow unbuckled my belt instead of his. lol I had to get pulled out because I got stuck to the roof since it was still rolling. We also had this dude that was underwater for a solid 2 minutes and we all thought he was dead but all of a sudden he popped up gasping for air. 😂 I hated it while I was there but I wish I could just spend a day with my buddies getting yelled at for the stupidest things
That would be a bit confusing for me to have to swim downwards to come up to the surface

Good
If real life is a simulation they spend half the budget in that water.
OMG! I was not given no freakin oxygen when I trained. My team had to have iron lungs back in the day.
Omg my son did it today wow

I just posted a video using my Gopro. I have myself leaving 4 of the 5 different types of exits on it.

One of the stages is to wear "blackout goggles" where you can't see anything so that's pretty much what they do.
