- Flashback to when we put #IROCdaily up on a lift to see what it looked like underneath. What did we buy? Was it a good purchase or a bad one? How much is original? What was that bang under the car?
We take an uncensored and unfiltered look at our 1986 IROC-Z project car to see what we found that was bad and good and will give you an idea of what to look for in a 3rdgen you may purchase.
Overall, we really scored when finding this car!

Beauty, I looked at 25 cars at least until I finally found mine. Many the owner asked if "I wanted to hear it run" I said (as I climbed underneath with my pointy screwdriver) nope, all that matters is the chassis condition. Your car is amazing, it reminds me of the wife's 77 TA from AZ. spotless.
Awesome! Yes, the chassis (the foundation) is the biggest telltale sign of the condition of the rest of the car. 👍 Thanks! It took us about a year to find this one. Lots of bad ones before we found this one. It had its problems. But it’s great.
They're actually called "Harmonic" Balancer, not just Balancer or just Damper..
Looks very clean for a 86 for sure!!!
Thanks 🙏 We are very happy with the condition. 👍
Looks like a good start
Car looks great
Are those the eibach sportline springs? What was the ride like with them on?
Those were Eibachs and Bilsteins in front. The previous owner never installed the rear springs and shocks…so it’s hard to give you a good review. We took them out and went all Detroit Speed and Konis.
How much did you purchase the car for? I am looking for one but it seems the prices are a bit all over the place.
We bought it 2.5 years ago for $7500. No rust. Decent paint. Body in great shape and interior is amazing. It needed some smog work, but it was still a steal. We had seen cars in worse shape going for the same price or more. In 2.5 years, I've seen the prices for the same condition climbing up to $13k to $23k. Yes, it's a big range, but that's where they're at now. If you can find good ones cheaper, you're doing well.
@@CamaroFamily Would you take a chance and buy one on a online auction? Iam kind of leary of that because you can't actually inspect the car or even sit in the seats, it's a good price online for 6500$ but Iam still skeptical about making the purchase
@@givemecash9404 oooh, that’s a tough one. If you can get photos of the pinch welds on the rocker panels and if you know it doesn’t have a check engine light on, those are good telltale signs. $6500 sounds good.
@@CamaroFamily they have a startup engine video but it doesn't show the inside of the car no way to tell if there is a check engine light on, Good point. By the way not the original motor replaced motor with about 4,000 miles
@@givemecash9404 unless you’re looking at an extremely low mile car that you want to invest in, the replaced engine is not a bad thing in my book. The pinch welds are a good indicator of if the car has been cared for…and check it for rust. Damaged/crushed rocker pinch welds flange shows lots of jacking the car up improperly for lots of repairs and/or bad driving over things you should not be driving over.
How come it not Disc brake
Just never had that option. It will get an upgrade in the future.
👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks 🙏
I have seen worse
LOL. Definitely. I am very happy with #IROCDAILY.
