    I think a producer we forgot about was Martin Birch. He was an engineer on a lot of iconic Deep Purple albums such as In Rock, Fireball, Machine Head and Burn. He also produced all the Ronnie Rainbow albums (Rainbow, Rising, and LLRnR). He also did Heaven & Hell and Mob Rules for Black Sabbath. And he also produced everything Maiden did from Killers through Fear of the Dark.
    He's no Scott Burns, but he's definitely on the list if we do another one.

      Honestly I think I should give u props to bring up Cannibal Corpse as a point of debate. I do agree with u in the sense that extreme metal reached its biggest exposure with the band's appearance in the Ace Ventura movie which, at the time, everybody in my age group had seen at one point and considering the concert scene as one of the movie's most iconic moments.

    Bathory was an obvious one for me. Pioneered black metal which inspired pretty much every extreme metal genre throughout the 80’s and 90’s (especially in Scandinavia) and gave birth to a new genre in Viking metal with Hammerheart. I love Celtic Frost but Bathory’s early material was a blueprint for just about every black metal album released in the 90’s. On top of that I just think they fit the description of black metal way more than Celtic Frost with satanic lyrics, raspy nasally vocals, and lo fi production.

      I was typing something similar, but you already got it covered. The fact that they weren't even brought up is weird. Super influential, way more than Celtic Frost.

    To people still complaining about the black album. Move the fuck on, it’s been at least 3 fucking decades, the guys in Metallica are like in their 60s. We get it, you think it’s overrated, it’s a sellout whatever, Metallica isn’t asking for you to like it. Like it or not MOST people are introduced to metal with songs on this album whether it’s Enter Sandman, Nothing Else matters, Sad but True, Whenever I may roam, The Unforgiven Through the never etc…, Black album might be THEE gateway metal album of all gateways Metal albums. Metallica will forever remain one of the most classic, influential and Greatest Metal bands of all time. After going through their Discog again, while they have their bad albums/songs I will always love 1st 5 albums, I like load, Garage Inc and reload, I respect Lulu. Even after decades of being a metalhead I still love and respect Metallica.

    Van Halen is definitely a band I would vote for a metal hall of fame; while they didn't exactly make metal, the way each person did their part (especially the og lineup) influenced the way everyone played their instruments/sang going forward.

    I’d ague that bands like Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, Queen, Van Halen, Blue Öyster Cult, AC/DC & Rainbow may have a number of metal SONGS, but aren’t necessarily metal BANDS. Influential for sure, but another factor would be the embrace of the label and the ability to operate in the metal circles consistently. Love all of those artists btw

    Killer first batch of inductees, I will make an argument for Suffocation being one of if not the most influential death metal band. Effigy of the Forgotten came out in 1991 and blew everything out of the water with their absolutely pummeling brutality, speed, and heaviness. They are basically the godfathers of brutal death metal as well as tech death to a certain degree. Cannibal Corpse may have had the over the top gory lyrics and imagery, but after people heard Liege of Inveracity it's safe to say that it raised the bar exponentially for how heavy and intense death metal can be.

    I believe that morbid angel could be on this list because 1. They had a best selling death metal album. 2. Pete's Sandoval drumming has changed the way for Death metal drumming because most of the early death metal bands they were still using thrash beats. 3. The Riffs also did change for a lot of death metal and they're kinda the first band to use 7 strings (correct me if I am wrong.)

    I'm surprised Venom wasnt inducted. Love them or hate them, they invented extreme metal. Everything from the imagery, to the lyrics, to the abrasive production, to the proto guttural vocals that Cronos had. Black metal is the obvious example, sure, but people also forget that Metallica and Slayer were heavily influenced by Venom, and so were Death and Possessed. Without Venom, there is no thrash metal, black metal, death metal, grindcore, and even crust punk. They are the Black Sabbath of extreme metal. There are numerous bands that came after them that built on what they did and did so better and more extreme, but the fact remains that Venom is massively influential to metal and belongs on this list.

    • @Hecatecrossways
      @Hecatecrossways 2 місяці тому +1

      Venom were heavily influenced by Witchfynde and Motorhead. The truth Motorhead was the first Extreme Metal band. Venom used Witchfynde's imagery and Motorhead's music. Venom were similar to Judas Priest insomuch as Black Sabbath influenced Metal, but Judas Priest were actually the first real Metal band. Motorhead invented Extreme Metal, but Venom were actually the first Extreme Metal act.

    The DEEP PURPLE/ BLACK SABBATH/ RAINBOW/ DIO situation is complicated because they shared so much key personnel(IAN GILLAN sang for SABBATH on "Born Again", one of my faves from them). The case for RAINBOW is 1): they perfected power metal before IRON MAIDEN got there, and 2): they spawned a lot of important figures like Dio, Bonnet, Coverdale, Powell, etc. I know its messy, just sayin.
    IRON MAIDEN story: Gene, Roman & I saw them live in 1984 in Birmingham, AL on the Powerslave tour with TWISTED SISTER opening. We were in the 8th grade, and, turns out Gene's mom is Steve Harris' ex-girlfriend(she was georgeous). She calls ahead to some other blessed individual, and Mr. Harris gets the word. He gets security to put us and Gene's mom in front of the stage barricades for the whole show, bathroom breaks and all. Bruce and Steve both made it a point to play to us throughout the show. Blew our tiny minds. They were so happy to see little kids up front. Gods Of Their Choosing bless them, as a 14 year old metalhead, there was no looking back. I'm 53 now.

    Might be a hot take here but whether u are a fan or not (I'm not) but I would argue Slipknot deserves a spot too. Their eclectic sound (which includes groove metal, electronics, extreme metal, alt rock a.o.), their image and the way they managed to implement that concept of tribalism at the core of their identity made them pave the way for pretty much anything that came at us in the 21st century in terms of extreme music. On top of that, they even managed to reach a sizable part of the more mainstream audience: aside from Pantera that must be one of the most extreme outputs ever to achieve that.

    Really good list. I must say I didn't think of just RDJ as an individual. Rather brilliant. I disagree with Celtic Frost as a first ballot inductee. Alice Cooper is problematic. I agree he influenced metal but here is the issue. For people my age Kiss was a gateway band. Kiss opened the door to listen to heavy music. What about Motley Crue also very influential. So if Cooper goes in Kiss absolutely has to. A band that is forgotten is Korn. People forget how important they were in the 90's to 2010 or so. They rivaled Metallica's popularity. I would say no to Rainbow. The Dio era albums I always considered metal. The Turner era even though I actually like it certainly isn't metal. For first ballot I think King Diamond should also get in and Emperor and Immortal should get consideration.
