I've always loved the look and sound of PRS guitars, but every time I play one, I end up disappointed.I might invest in an SE one day and sand down the neck to get it smooth like my Strats.
You are one of very few people on UA-cam who can cram 10 guitar reviews under 20 minutes of top notch video, while being very informative & helpful, no BS and never going overboard. Thank you for the awesome video!
It really came across how much these guitars mean to you emotionally. Loved the Satrianni-like picking on the blue LP in particular. Informative & entertaining as usual. Thanks for putting this one together.
There is absolutely no way to choose a favorite. This is the exact reason I have as many guitars that I do. Each brings something different to the table. Each has it's own sound/feel/vibe/personality and inspires me in a different way, depending on which one I pick at any given moment. If the day ever came that I had to choose only one, two or even three, I would go crazy trying to decide which they would be .I never thought anyone needed more than one Les Paul but, the three I have are completely different from each other, even though they share the same DNA.
I can relate to you about the tele. I never thought I would be playing a telecaster, because I play with high gain all of the time, but looking at teles, they started to grow on me, so I built a telecaster style kit, moded the crap out of it, and fell in love with it. It was worth every penny.
Dude that PRS is beautiful. Normally one of the big draws for me and PRS is there beautiful tops. Painted guitars have really grown on me and that gold top on it is just rad.
i was super surprised to see the Godin in there! What an interesting and cool guitar. I couldn't wrap my mind around the fact that Darrell was getting that full and rich sound by adding some distortion to a nylon string guitar. Way cool! I have two favorites in your collection. Love the Tele build with the double binding but my favorite was the Standard Tele at the very end of the video. I love the history to it as well as the looks. Still looks and sounds great after 18 years. Thanks again for the great video! Keep them coming.
Godin make truly fantastic instruments my friend. I’m no Guitar Pro or musician at all, I just play about for myself and for fun. I’ve had a few guitars in my day, some of the BIG named ones too. I bought a Godin 5th Ave Kingpin and LOVE IT!! It is easily my favourite guitar. You should give their website a look, I think you’ll see something that you like. PS I’m buying another Godin soon, just don’t tell my girlfriend please. 😂😂 Peace
The Strat for me, just was able to buy a Lace Sensor blue/red dually new on Amazon for $49.95 Can., unbelievable price. Thanks Darrell for doing this, you have some great guitars, and appreciate you sharing your knowledge. Look forward to many more vids.
That is the most beautiful strat I've ever seen. Simply gorgeous. And I've never really gotten into Ibanez, but that model does look pretty cool with that super slim profile.
My dream 10 guitar collection: 1. Gibson Classic or Traditional Les Paul. I want to visit a few stores and compare a few before I choose the one for me. 2. My current modded Epiphone GT. A les paul with a fender vintage trem system, locking tuners, string butler, and possibly pickup mods down the line. 3. The Wolf Abalone Les Paul. I mean....have you seen that thing?!? Holy mother of pearls.... 4. Eastman Semi Hollow 335. Idk....I like it better than the original... 5. Eastman Jazz Archtop 6. My current Eastman Acoustic AC222CE 7. Eastman OM622 8. Martin Custom Shop Acoustic Dreadnought 9. Music Man Ernie Ball White Strat. 10. Warmoth super custom build. You guessed it....a custom Les Paul. I'll have some crazy custom specs to go along.
Happy New Year, Darrell! Excellent video, as usual! Love the blue double cut Les Paul. Been sort of looking for one, but they are hard to find. Also really liked the Warmouth Tele, even if it didn't make your cut!
My favorite was the modded Epiphone that you didn't put in your top 10 (you chose the Gibson over it). I have a soft spot for cheaper guitars that sound amazing. I like epiphones a lot.
Actually, they cost the same, except +2800% in price just for word Gibson... like converse shoes - they look ok, they won't live more that couple years, but THE BRAND!!! omg!!!
Congratulations for your awesome guitar collection! My 1st electric guitar was a used Fender Standard Telecaster MIM and after 10 years I recently got the chance of purchasing a new PRS SE Custom 24. Thought disposing my old Tele was an option but you're right: There's something in the Tele that makes falling in love with her and I feel getting rid of it could be a mistake. I feel proud to see the guitar models I own are in your top 10
All of them were great! But, that 2nd to last one, (The Tele Build with the walnut neck, just sent a vibration into my soul that I can’t explain)! I would LOVE to have that guitar!! You should be so proud.
Wow what beautiful instruments all the way around! Love the gold top just beautiful lines and really like the PRs head stock. Not really a strat fan however, that is one I would own! I do enjoy your Epi beautiful guitar up to the head stock and sounds amazing! However your Traditional Les Paul is my favorite 😃 I am a bit biased as I too own a Les Paul Traditional, ( the guitar of my teenage dreams) she ‘s a beast almost 10lbs big 50’s neck fortunately I have big hands which nullifies the neck size quite a bit and I am by no means in your league as a guitarist but I as well prefer the sound of the 57 classics to the burstbuckers. Great collection in a year o two as I continue to grow and improve I am certain I will add another.......maybe another Traditional 🤔 😂 great video
Can’t help noticing how partial you are to guitars you have built yourself. There is something really satisfying about a great guitar that came about from your own choices.
great collection, especially the minty tele is awesome. I missed an ESP. if you like the "heavy-headstock" especially the E II Horizon III with SDs is such a versatile beast clean and in shreddingmode.
Great top choice, favorite guitar - the Telecaster!! Over the years my attentions has always been drawn to Gibson Les Pauls. I used to consider Telecasters as Stratocasters without the wah-wah tremolo bridge. Then I noticed many professional guitarists prefer Telecasters. They have no unnecessary complexities, and given the right pickups they can match and exceed ANY other guitar out there. And it's simple, unpretentious look has grown on me.
My favorite guitar of yours is definitely the light blue telecaster thinline. My first guitar was a thinline, and I just think they’re the most classy guitars out there.
You are one of the best guitarist on You Tube , that is why you continue to grow.We love your playing and your free spirit attitude with regards to all companies . You have given me hundreds of idea's for my next guitar. Keep up the great work you are an inspiration to all.
I did not know you are close to 200,000 subscribers. Congratulations. I will make sure I view the rest of your videos to keep the UA-cam dollars coming to you. You do great work and it is a pleasure to watch. I always learn something from watching and I know that is your goal. Well done.
That Ibanez Prestige was crazy! I am all about light weight guitars these days so I just couldn’t believe how thin and how light. Plus I love the playability of Ibanez.
I really enjoyed this video , as I do all your videos, but I was particularly interested in why you prefer the pick ups on the Les Paul Traditional as opposed to the Standard. I know its a matter of taste BUT you have such a thorough knowledge it would be good to know the specifics. Perhaps you could do a comparison? Happy New Year to you and look forward to many more clips.
Freaking gorgeous collection, man. My one and only criticism (it’s not even a criticism actually) is about the PRS. I don’t think PRS is capable of making a guitar that is not breathtakingly gorgeous, but I was surprised to see a gold top. I don’t think anybody does flamed wood like they do, and I don’t think I could personally resist one of their maple flame tops. But yeah, your goldie is stunning nonetheless. And that Strat with the flamed top and white pick guard - holy crap! Only been subscribed to you for a couple of weeks since finding you, but love your videos and slowly working my way through all your uploads. Best guitar channel on UA-cam in my opinion.
+RandMan14 True! It was a tough decision deciding between a flame-top and the goldtop. Thanks for the kind words! I'm glad you're enjoying the channel ☺
Hard to pick. I loved the Godin but the telecaster sound for me is the best. But the Ibanez look and playability , ergonomics got me. Ibanez for me ... btw: the black switch cover on the Ibanez you can take it off and have it chrome plated if you like better or even painted . Again nice to see all those awesome guitars and sounds .
Those are called Phase 3 tuners. And the veneer on the headstock is not mahogony. It's East Indian Rosewood. And if that guitar was made between 2013 and mid 2015, its a good chance I put on there. 😁
Hi, Darryl. Thanks for this better-than-deep-dark-chocolate-mud-cake take on your favorite instruments. I enjoyed seeing every single one of them. That blue double cut Les Paul won my eyes, as did the pick guard on your first build. I loved the color as well. I would love to see any 335-styles in your arsenal of toys, if you've got any. Bring them on. BB-style. FYI: I watched this video twice. The first time was to see the guitars and listen to you, introducing them to us. The second time was to watch your fingers and really concentrate on what you were doing musically and where you were going. I appreciate your love of guitars and passion to teach. You're a wonderful, engaging teacher. I know I'm not alone in my gratitude. Thank you so much. 🌺
I was hoping you would make this video because I have seen a bunch of your videos where you use really cool guitars and I thought I wonder what else he has and you didn’t disappoint. Thanks for making great videos like this all the time and happy new year man
Love burst buckers on my 2017 standard cannot complain, but the 57s do sound awesome on my 2011 LP and my 2017 tribute. Hard call but both have a place in my collection wouldn’t replace either. I have a fender elite special edition SSS too amazing build quality and sound the new pups are just quite as can be and as usual with fender super easy to play. Great collection BTW GREAT CHOICES!
Great episode. I’ve been lusting after the SG since I saw it on one of your videos. I was pleasantly surprised by the Ibanez. I haven’t seen a lot of them locally, so never got a chance to hear one IRL. You can bet I’ll be looking forward for a chance to get that guitar version of that “new car smell” for musicians. “New Axe Sound”maybe?
Nice and fun video! I'm quite pleased with the Fralin Split Blades in my last Strat build. I had a 2000 Tele Std, too, though mine had a white pickguard. It was also my first Tele. I have an FSR Tele Std Ash that I love, now. My Epi Les Paul Std Plus top (bought used for $300) is one of my favorites. I like it way more than the 1968 Custom Fretless Wonder LP I bought new on Halloween 1968. LOL
Also id like to think a switch cover for that Ibanez could easily be made out of wood or plastic by carefully cutting and sanding. Definitely is an eye sore!
I've been waiting for this vid forever, I think the choices on gear of a guitarist allow the viewers to know that said guitarist better; I love this video I enjoyed see your preferences, Happy New Year
Bold pick - the carbon fibre Rainsong. I’m an acoustic builder and want to investigate these new material axes! And as I watch the end of your vid, I see the classic Tele! Leo nailed it in 1950!
+Vito Astone Happy New Year to you too!! The collection is always in flux depending on what I want to use on the channel, but there's only a handful I will keep long-term 😀
what a great choice, darrell. btw happy new year😄🎉🎊 i've just have top 5 on your collection. like this 1. Ibanez Prestige S series 2. Fender Select Strat 3. Fender American Professional Telecaster 4. Godin Multiac 5. PRS Custom 24 Have a great year in 2018 darrell. waiting for your fresh content every week😄
I mean every word of that. I came across your channel in late 2016 and you single handedly taught me how to distinguish one guitar from another! I look forward to seeing your videos every Monday and hearing you play.
Darrell Braun the Tele with double binding, the first video I in your chaneI i ever watched you demo some telecasters, that tele was in that video, and ever since I love that telecaster. Happy New Year
I put them in my Natural Mahogany Les Paul and it sounds beautiful. Like I had 56 Les Paul in a modern LP. The Burstbuckers I think are trash pickups. Hope you take to the suggestion and check them out.
Tough choices, Darrell. I'm a PRS guy and have an early 90s bolt-on as well as a more recent Korean SE, which boasts exceptional build quality -- easily the equal of the US-made models, although the electrics aren't quite as solid. My vote, however, goes to your build Tele. I'm a sucker for Teles. Their minimalism has a certain appeal that can't be beat and they're super easy to mod. Keep up the good work and happy new year!
+lando27music The core remains fairly unchanging, but the rest come and go depending on what I want to use on the channel - so the total number is always in flux ☺
The tele he ended with is my favorite. In another vid he compares the american standard tele to a tele deluxe with shawbuckers and the standard tele is just a beautiful sounding guitar.
The gold top PRS, WOW! Darrell have you considered putting a String Butler on any of these favorite LP's to improve tuning stability? I noticed you haven't and you are a big proponent of SB. I picked one up because of your review and I love it!
+Brad Ridinger Thanks! I don't play with the Les Pauls enough to warrant a SB. I have them on my Lucille and Epi LP though. The Traditional has the titanium nut in it which I find does a reasonable job of keeping it in tune.
Great video, Darrell! I'm really enjoying your channel. The SG sounded awesome to me. I wish I could get past the looks but the double horns just turn me off a bit. No doubt, they are great sounding guitars though. Yours does look super cool with the three gold pickups against the black. Thanks for sharing.
great video as usual, hope u hit the 200k mark soon !! can't wait for the ibanez s vs rg and the prs 3 way switch with split coil vs the 5 way, keep it up !!
Glad to see the ultimate Epiphone there, even though you went for the traditional Les Paul. Haha! You always sound great, but I think you sound best on that traditional Les Paul! Cheers! Oh, that SG just screams rock and roll.
I'm waiting for the sequel: top 10 teles in my collection
YES PLEASE
Agreed.
Lol

GREAT COMMENT SIR!!
👍
Has anybody noticed that in most of Darrel’s videos, he does NOT stop smiling, or at least most of the time
Silver Scorpio If I had this collection of guitars, I think I would smile a fair bit.
He’s a happy guy, Idk
Silver Scorpio One of UA-cams nicest personalities. Probably because he is canadian 😁

I've always loved the look and sound of PRS guitars, but every time I play one, I end up disappointed.I might invest in an SE one day and sand down the neck to get it smooth like my Strats.

i like a PRS

“Top 10 guitars in my collection”
I dont even have 10 picks

Pure love
That Godin sounds fantastic for NYLON strings. Very unique looking also. But sounds awesome
i was super surprised to see the Godin in there! What an interesting and cool guitar. Another great video! Thank you so much for all of your videos, and the knowledge and insight they contain.
Nice collection. I've been in love with the Ibanez S-Series since you got it and was glad you included it in the top 10. I need to get one myself.
The Strat for me, just was able to buy a Lace Sensor blue/red dually new on Amazon for $49.95 Can., unbelievable price.
Thanks Darrell for doing this, you have some great guitars, and appreciate you sharing your knowledge. Look forward to many more vids.
+Ray Ross That is an absolute steal of a price 👍
Sure was, that price was only up on Amazon for about 2 hours a week ago. They are regular $120.00 Can.
That is the most beautiful strat I've ever seen. Simply gorgeous. And I've never really gotten into Ibanez, but that model does look pretty cool with that super slim profile.
Really hard choices and a great collection. Love the SG and the PRS for looks. But that Strat sounds butter smooth.
awesome SG!!
My dream 10 guitar collection:
1. Gibson Classic or Traditional Les Paul. I want to visit a few stores and compare a few before I choose the one for me.

Or spray paint it gold.
Honestly, that's what I'm leaning toward. It's easy and cheap :)
I've been waiting for this vid forever, I think the choices on gear of a guitarist allow the viewers to know that said guitarist better; I love this video I enjoyed see your preferences, Happy New Year
+Aldo Polo Happy New Year to you too!
HEY DARRELL! 8:55 THAT TELE YOU PUT TOGETHER IS SWEET!!! I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT IT! GOOD JOB ON THAT ONE!! what are the pickup'in it?
+ben galvin Thanks man!
It's got a Chopper t in the bridge and a Vintage Vibe p90 in the neck ☺
HEY DARRELL! i was talking about the one with the f hole and bigsby what PU's are in that?
Ben, check his other videos to be sure but I think they are Lindy Fralin rails.
HEY td tom! thanks for that i will!
I love your telecaster with Bigsby on and your Gibson are awesome !!! Anyway beautiful collection you man are un lucky one !
No joke, Calgary was -30 Celsius at least this past week.
+Erik McKenzie Tell me about it!!! ❄😱
Erik McKenzie Damn that's cold.
Yuck
Bold pick - the carbon fibre Rainsong. I’m an acoustic builder and want to investigate these new material axes!
And as I watch the end of your vid, I see the classic Tele! Leo nailed it in 1950!
That double cutaway les paul is my favorite one
I like the look but nev played one, wonder what its like.
Happy New Year Darrell!
Fantastic Collection!
Thanks for sharing
IMO the blue Tele with Bigsby on it
No question! 😊
Gonzaga - "blue Tele with Bigsby on it". Surf green, ya mean!!!
Happy New Year @Darrell Braun , I prefer the 1,2,3, guitar, but how many guitars do you have ?
+Vito Astone Happy New Year to you too!!
The collection is always in flux depending on what I want to use on the channel, but there's only a handful I will keep long-term 😀
+Vito Astone All the best on your channel in 2018!!
Darrell Braun Guitar Thanksss 😊😊
what a great choice, darrell. btw happy new year😄🎉🎊
i've just have top 5 on your collection. like this
1. Ibanez Prestige S series
2. Fender Select Strat
3. Fender American Professional Telecaster
4. Godin Multiac
5. PRS Custom 24
Have a great year in 2018 darrell. waiting for your fresh content every week😄
+Widi Chandra Thanks!
Happy New Year to you too ☺
Out of your collection, I really like the deluxe tele and the ultimate epi :)
Great vid, as always! Looking forward to another great year of your content.
+Ben Duncan Thanks so much Ben!!
I mean every word of that. I came across your channel in late 2016 and you single handedly taught me how to distinguish one guitar from another! I look forward to seeing your videos every Monday and hearing you play.
Hey guys! We're back!
Let me know which guitar was your favourite, and which guitars you'd like to see on the channel;l this year!
Darrell Braun Guitar Squier Classic Vibe 50's Stratocaster compared to a Mexican and an American Strat is what I hope to see :)
Darrell Braun the Tele with double binding, the first video I in your chaneI i ever watched you demo some telecasters, that tele was in that video, and ever since I love that telecaster. Happy New Year
I like that epiphone build and the PRS!😅
Love the thin line Tele build!
+Robert Aaron 😀👍
Very cool Darrell. Nice selection of quality instruments.
Put some Duncan Seth Lover humbuckers in the LP double cut
they are supposed to sound like PAFs
+S Carlson Thanks for the suggestion!
Can't go wrong with SD 👍
S Carlson like the ones on the Tele deluxes and customs Fender made in the 70’s?
No like the early Gibson humbuckers
I put them in my Natural Mahogany Les Paul and it sounds beautiful. Like I had 56 Les Paul in a modern LP. The Burstbuckers I think are trash pickups. Hope you take to the suggestion and check them out.
Loved that PRS gold top, but that double binding golden Tele, oh my, that‘s the favourite! :D The P90 looks just perfect ^^
Title meaning he has more than 10 while I only have one
Tough choices, Darrell. I'm a PRS guy and have an early 90s bolt-on as well as a more recent Korean SE, which boasts exceptional build quality -- easily the equal of the US-made models, although the electrics aren't quite as solid. My vote, however, goes to your build Tele. I'm a sucker for Teles. Their minimalism has a certain appeal that can't be beat and they're super easy to mod. Keep up the good work and happy new year!
Cool video! But I have to ask, top 10 of how many guitars in your collection?!? haha :) GASSSSS
+lando27music The core remains fairly unchanging, but the rest come and go depending on what I want to use on the channel - so the total number is always in flux ☺
Darrell Braun Guitar a # pliz!
The tele he ended with is my favorite. In another vid he compares the american standard tele to a tele deluxe with shawbuckers and the standard tele is just a beautiful sounding guitar.
Hey, Darrell, it took you 1 whole year to upload a new video. That's not fair! 😜😁😁
What can I say to you...Okay...
Happy New Year 2k18.
+Crooked TV 😄😄😄👍
Happy New Year!
that's a very poorly executed joke
Man, I have a serious crush on your Ibanez Prestige S! What's funny is, I'm usually not into Ibanez guitars but that baby looks amazing!
I was really expecting to see a Chinese knockoff or two in there.
Decisions decisions. Naw, the DC Les Paul. They didn't make many of them so it will be collectible and it is just a thing of beauty.
0:38 soo thicccc
I totally love the 3 Telecasters at the end. Great collection!,
The gold top PRS, WOW!
I would have to say that Strat is just stunning. So is that Ibanez. So many great guitars!!!
Thanks man!
That double-cut les Paul reminds me of a PRS, and yes I do know about the junior and special double-cuts
great video as usual, hope u hit the 200k mark soon !! can't wait for the ibanez s vs rg and the prs 3 way switch with split coil vs the 5 way, keep it up !!
+Karim Mansour Thanks Karim!
Thanks for another great video Darrell👍🏻 For me, the Strat wins hands down and the SG3 in second place 😁
Sweet collection! Happy New Year Darrell!!
+SnoOpDoGGfan100 Happy New Year to you too!!
Glad to see the ultimate Epiphone there, even though you went for the traditional Les Paul. Haha!
You always sound great, but I think you sound best on that traditional Les Paul! Cheers!
Oh, that SG just screams rock and roll.
+Guitar Dev I really do love that Epi! 😍
