- As the darkness of a global pandemic fell across the world, one man raised his Rolling Rock to the camera and said "Hello class!". Tom Bukovac - AKA The Session Man, AKA Uncle Larry - transformed his garage into a make-shift youtube classroom to share his lifetime of wisdom gained from making music alongside the giants of the music industry on a daily basis. While he regularly begins class with amazing improvised compositions it often evolves into discussions of life, family, friends, work, football, casual apparel, beer, bread and breakfasts. Before the video ends it all comes back around to music and Tom will share the details of his opening composition. Over the last year we've been treated to session updates from the field where Tom gives a behind the scenes of the line-up of personnel and gear. The syllabus is straightforward: Open with a strong intro, get an update on life and work, reflect on comments and notes from the previous class, and then close with details of how to inject your own playing with the unique elements of the opening. The only flash is his amazing arsenal of vintage guitars and amps, beyond that, it's all substance. The community that has grown around the channel is uniquely supportive, warm, and welcoming. That is Tom Bukovac's Homeskoolin youtube channel.
This is Episode 101.
Best of the best.
Thank you, awesome! Tom is so unique and musical, not only as a guitarist, but as a composer as well! Top-level real grown-up music right here! Love you Tom and my fellow homeskoolers❤
Right before the pandemic, I stumbled upon Tom’s Premier Guitar Rig Rundown. I had no idea who he was. The first 20 seconds, he seemed clumsy; a minute later, I was intrigued. When it finished roughly fifty minutes later, he became my favorite “new” guitarist. He has since remained all that-and more. I am a huge Jeff Beck fan, and though Tom clearly has his own approach and sound, the Beck influence is evident. But there’s more to Uncle Larry than just that, way more. The Homeskoolin’ show reveals his uncanny ability to create compelling original music that is indebted to his influences while also offerIng a distinctive, individualistic glimpse into his musical heart. The humanity of the man comes through every note and chord he plays-and every wise life lesson he imparts. Like many a Homeskooler, I have immeasurably improved in countless ways simply by being an attentive listener in his inspiring class. The past two concert performances demonstrate that the teacher has not just immense chops, but a profound artistic soul. We all soar higher because of his influence.
REALLY well said John!
Thank you my dude...appreciate the extremely kind words
This is the first time I have ever commented on a UA-cam video. I have been so moved by the whole Homeskoolin experience, including the two concerts, that I decided to end my no-comment UA-cam demeanor (at least for now). Consequently, I have no idea what the etiquette is for responding to a response, or if there even is such a thing. But thanks for the nice words, TCM. And thanks, Tom, for sharing your talent, insights, and homespun, well-earned wisdom so generously. The world needs bright lights, and yours is beaming. Keep on rocking!
@UCMuYyEGNeXMOG91BgCWH16Q dude thank you so much for the kind words. I dated a gal with your last name many many moons ago

yet again - top of the Homeskoolin' class of '20-'21 A+ homework putting together liner notes and Vol references. You rock.
Both sets were fantastic. Four of the best players on the planet....on stage....just feeling it.
What an inspiration he has been. Such beautiful tone and touch. The best comment I remember said “with Uncle Larry I never know what amp he is playing through and it never matters”
The roland cube and blackstar mini, still sounds perfect, its tommy, he'd sound good playing into a yoghurt pot! When u get to that quality of musicianship the gear almost doesn't matter
jerry's attitude at 27:37 is what we all try to achieve as we play. you can see the guy loves what he's doing. thank you jerry!!!
This needs to be available as an album! I've never been a fan of instrumental music, but I could not stop watching this, it was incredible!
Thanks Tom, You are the best thing to come out of this pandemic.Damn, I love your playing!
Yeah he is man!
Might be one of the best live performances I have seen in the longest time ! I am a big fan, and I have just discovered Tom!
Yeah I recently found him and subscribed to his channel. Good stuff man. :-)
Love being a part of this community. That was great UL. Cheers
The new Prairie homeschooling companion , pull up a chair, open a Rolling Rock and slide in an out of Tom's musical guitarscapes
It dawned on me , would you make a great late night show musical director or what?
Is Tom a bluesman!? , "London Broil ", nod to BB in the first solo👍
Yeah me too !!
Wow mate, just wow! Thanks for all the music and life lessons...
Thanks Tom and all. Such a gift to have the 100 here condensed and catalogued in the right on Uncle Larry fashion.
Fckn Amazing!! Buk..You nailed it brother!! All my best to the Boys in the Band..Simply Outstanding cast of characters!!
this sounds so good, I could listen to this band till the end of time
Good stuff man. :-)
My favorite teacher
Well, the live album is in the can. Thanks nugnet for putting this out. Thank you Uncle Larry and friends for the great music. One of the best.
Just plain Awesome ! Love Home Skoolin too !! Thanks so much Session Man !!
A precious gift given to watchers. Thank you!
That drum sound....
...and the bass sound, amazing!
The end of TV Dinners. You were there man. Thanks!
Thank you Tommy B. and the band! Good stuff right there and thanks Uncle Larry for what you do! :-)
Excelente guitarrista y excelentes canciones, muy buenos!!!
So many influences - I'm getting a real John Scofield, Bill Frisell, David Gilmour vibe from some of these. Cant wait for the record to land!
Totally agree, especially with the Scofield and Gilmour influence. Uncle Larry has managed to subsume myriad influences while retaining and even deepening his individuality; that’s the mark of a true artist.
It without saying that they're just incredible players, but I'm blown away with how great the sound quality is. Who ever mixed this knows what's up.
It was AMAZING!!!🔥🔥🔥 Thank you Uncle Larry!🙏
Thanks uncle larry and your band nice way to start a day
That's my favorite Peter Gabriel tune. So good. Can't believe that I didn't know these shows existed. On the plus side, I got to listen and play to the album before seeing Tom play the songs. Sucks, but kinda gratifying at the same time.
enjoyed it all... nice touch to see Sarah ...Great show
Signature model sounds great man !!!
Not All Heroes Wear Capes !! Much love to you Tom !! Greetings 🖖 from Slovenia
Got to love Cadilac Larry, lyrical and kinda melancholy with attitude
Really impressed by the sound quality of both shows blasting through my headphones. The playing pretty good also. Lol
Somehow even better second time around. Or is that the third…? Awesome
I don't get to say this often (and don't let it affect your head,Uncle La..) but in all honesty "You won't find better".
Loved it, thanks!
Grateful.
Wish I could have been there but it's 7634 km away from where I am... Thank you bro!
And once again, Sarah steals the show!👏👏👏👏
Notes evolving into burst majik ... the Feedback on Cadillac Larry so nice.
amazing...
You are a better performer when you are sauced just like the other Buk. GREAT show.
Loved Sarah singing. You gotta take a classic 335 into a deluxe 70’s Dan Ferguson style session man solo on the studio version of “Cop Show”. Please!
Ugh... so good
Awesome
Cadillac Larry!!!
6:12 Straplocks needed, man! ;) That was an awesome show, Little Tommy!
Simplistic.
pretty sure that is the best sounding '58 every made. my goodness
Just as much fun as Rundown Rig.
Not a Paul fan, indeed! Something about dark.
where is the super like button?
Tom you need to take a couple of these tunes for a walk! my only complaint is that they're all too damn short.
strange beautiful music...
Have you checked THE FLOWERS OF EVIL by charles baudelaire ? Seems right up your poetry alley.
UAD set this man up !!!!! at home
King of the smears!!!!!!
Brett Papa sent me.
Is one of Jerry's amps a Carr Slant 6V?
Love the Slant 6V but I was using a Lazy J 20 I bought from Buk a couple of years ago. He had two out on the Joe Walsh tour and I snagged one of them. Back up amp was a ‘61 brown Princeton.
Thanks man. You stand toe to toe with Uncle Larry! I also dig the 335.
@@jerrymcp Jerry thanks do you remember what Tom was using here. Fender pro reverb?
@@Sasketchejuana_man I believe he was using the same Pro Reverb and Tweed Deluxe when we recorded the album a few days later.
You still introduced Sarah as your wife. What’s happening there?
Tom owes no one an explanation. Sarah is and always will be the mother of his children. Tom, keep rockin’ and stay as cool as you are.
