    I really hope the perf calc will be included in the EFB when it will be released one day. This is a must to fly realistically and should not be reqiuired to be bought externally. Otherwise, great video (as always) and great plane!

      Fuel and noise, both. If it's save without it, why waste the fuel and annoy the neighbors?
      Many airports actually forbid the use of reversers unless required for safety reasons.

    A newbie question...
    Once we have decided that the landing flaps setting we'll be using is, say, 40, how we decide the right moment to apply each step of the progression from flaps 0 to 40 during the approach?

    • @bigd2829
      @bigd2829 Рік тому

      I’m not a real pilot but I’d say don’t overthink it, flaps 1-5 are really there to sort of slow you down and beyond that (flaps 10-40) you would apply them as necessary as you slow the plane down for short final. (Of course in the checklist you would be approaching at flaps 15 and go at whatever vref speed (+15) the fmc says.)

  • @IslandSimPilot

    Hi @737ngdriver - where do you get the wind from? There's no Metar in the clip. A certain altitude AGL? Or always runway winds?

  • @Aleksandar6ix
    @Aleksandar6ix 2 роки тому +5

    Wow, the effects of flaps selection to turnaround time is not something I ever considered. Because I don't ever do turnarounds in sim, I'll probably continue with flap 30,but cool nonetheless.

    • @A330Driver
      @A330Driver  2 роки тому +8

      There's so many things a flight simmers just never considers. The term "thinking ahead" in FS just means something totally different than in real life. But that's fine, after all flight simmers are typically not trained professionals. That's why there are videos like these to give you such insights!

    Hey, @737NG Driver, can you please explain on how to choose flaps in case of wind gusts in the destination airport. I don't now if you cover this topic already. Guide me please if you did.

    • @A330Driver
      @A330Driver  2 роки тому

      There is no general do's and don'ts here, you have to involve your experience. Generally speaking, I'd say if the gusts exceed 10kt that's a good argument to think about Flaps 30 rather than 40, but as said it comes down to experience as well.

    • @AndGamer
      @AndGamer 2 роки тому

      @@A330Driver I thought that "normal" flaps are 30. Then if there are gusts, then set 40, because stall speed will be lower. Does it work like this?

    Hey, sorry if I missed any mention of Flaps 15 in the video. Is there any specific case were Flaps 15 would be used? Severe wind gusts?

    • @Hk-uw8my
      @Hk-uw8my Рік тому +1

      For easa and some other regulators like Jaa, flaps 15 is only used with non normal conditions , such as a single engine landing for example. In this case, it will improve the go around performance if you have to abort the landing.
      For the faa , flaps 15 can be a normal landing setting but is normally limited to airports where approach climb performance is a factor.
      Normal landings using flaps 15 are permitted for authorized operators with appropriate performance data available.
      Flaps 30 should be enough for gusty conditions.

  • @devn3813

    • @A330Driver
      @A330Driver  9 місяців тому +1

      No, approved landing settings are 30 and 40 in normal ops and 15 with specific emergencies where stated in the QRH.
      Some US carriers also got a 15 approval for normal ops to be used on high altitude airports like Denver.

    • @A330Driver
      @A330Driver  2 роки тому +1

      I'm using pedals as well. Thrustmaster Pendular Pedals to be exact.
      The trick is to use short and small inputs. Don't yank on the controls, that's going to get you nowhere.
      Do you input, hold it, see what happens. Need more? Apply a bit more, see what happens.

      Target Speed In Nil Wind = Vref + 5
      Target Speed Into Wind = Vref + (half the wind speed with minimum +5)
