Classic video - I love it! I made this a few months ago and had the same result. Cheap blackberry liquor overpowered everything, including my Giffard banana.
I made this last week based on the Berry recipe and when I discovered I couldn’t taste the expensive Banane I used a Monin banana puree instead which pumped the banana flavor and save me the Banane. My creme de mure is homeade, easy to make w fresh blackberries (must be good quality and ripe) - Thank you for the videos, I enjoy them.
Small world for such an obscure cocktail. Definitely not bad, just intensely blackberry. I think it’s in the Kamehameha Punch which I plan on covering in the not too distant future.
Hi hi! New to the channel! I like the information you're giving in these videos! Reminds me of How to Drink, but my nerdy ass definitely loves the talking points in this video. Im looking forward to seeing what sorta videos you come up with! Thanks for getting into the "youtube biz", its always cool seeing what people can create. Hope your channel grows!
I may play around with this one, sub lime for lemon which is a friend to blackberry, and possibly sub the overproof rum with a funky jamaican like Dr. Bird to bring out that banana.
Crown Royal put out a Blackberry whiskey this year which I put on the order of Chambord, I'm interested in trying this with that, lime and an overproof rum. If it needs sweetness maybe just a simple syrup. The banana and grenadine don't seem like they bring anything to the party.
Just made one with Appleton Signature & Wray & Nephew Over proof and swapped the Creme de Banana for Orchard Peach because I didn't have any banana liqueur. It turned out well, probably a slightly different flavor profile. Although that's the fun of home bartending, you can play around with the ingredients you have on hand.
Missed opportunity to fix the issues you had with your version. Would be very interesting to see how you would go about making another (two?) versions ✌️
The 1/4 oz of grenadine seems redundant. I would imagine it favors the creme de mure a bit much. Besides, 1.5 oz of liqueur should have plenty of sweetness already. If the lime does need more balancing, a touch of simple might be better. Cheers!
I only just found out that Giffard is pronounced with a soft 'g' (I obviously didn't take French in school). Also, totally with you that their stuff is quality with the exception of the orgeat.
Seems like what it is. A drink made from leftovers. I keep looking at that recipe and trying to come up with something good. Nice talk on the Creme de mure I need to find a bottle and play with it. There have been some interesting comments on the drink and banana already
Spend some time readjusting the drink instead of just speculating. I think it would be interesting to watch the process of readjusting a drink that is out of balance.
I hear you but from my perspective, that's a little more complicated. In general, I don't have a lot of interest in fixing something on the fly or in real-time. I know others do that and that's cool, it's just not what I am good at when a camera is rolling. If it's a historic drink that looks problematic on paper, I try to fix it before even starting. But if it's still bad, I think it's time to move on. In the future, if this does well and I can justify the time and cost to R+D every drink before filming then 100% would do that.

Love and appreciate your honest feedback on the drink afterwards!
Thanks for the honest review - sounds like it's not terrible, and the color is awesome, but like others have said, I won't rush to make one.
Agree that this is very blackberry forward although i think this is a drink my wife might like. I used Plantation 3 star and OFTD. Cheers 🍹

I made one of these recently and had a similar reaction to yours. I think a Bramble is just a better drink for creme de mure.

I do not disagree!
Yeah I'm going start with a bar spoon of grenadine, and a half an once of CDM, and go from there
Make your own crème de Mur and it comes our way better!
Giffard makes great products. Total Wone gets some. The others I have to get from Hi-Time Wine Cellars
I only just found out that Giffard is pronounced with a soft 'g' (I obviously didn't take French in school). Also, totally with you that their stuff is quality with the exception of the orgeat.
Yeah I looked up some of their videos in French and they say it like the peanut butter (Jiff), but I still say it wrong at least 50% of the time.
Maybe 1/2 oz of Creme to mure
The Rum Runner wasn’t created in the 70s, earliest mention is from 1937.
This drink is from a resort in the Florida Keys that opened in 1969.

Never took a liking to this drink because of the Creme de Mure. Too prominent and overpowering.
We have a lot of products about wine, would you be interested? We have sent you an email invitation to take a look.Thanks.
So, I am not inspired to make this drink. Seems like no one likes it. Not sure what the point of the whole thing is. 🤷🏻♂️
You’ll have to take that up with “Tiki John” of the Holiday Isle Resort
