    Love, love, love this whisky. I’m a little surprised you don’t also like the Lasanta. But to each their own, I guess. I do prefer the A’bunadh, of course. But I’ve never met a Glenmorangie I didn’t like.

      I don't dislike the Lasanta, but I prefer other sherry-influenced whiskies. I do need to retry other Glenmorangie expressions… and I need to really try the Signet again. It's been a while. 😊

      It's a very underrated whiskey. Even the bottom line 10yr is a solid option

    I did it! I bit the bullet and finally bought a bottle and tried it. Easily my new favorite. Smells so elegant and sweet. The finish on it was incredible too! I got to compare it to my bottle of Dewars Portuguese Smooth which is also finished in Port casks. If they still made the Portuguese smooth I would still buy that one over the Quinta Ruban only because of price ($25). But the Quinta Ruben is no doubt the clear winner. Great nose, color and taste.

      Wonderful! Thanks for sharing. I've never had that Dewars expression, and I guess I won't if it's out of production. Port finishes aren't easy, in my opinion. They can easily overpower the whisky, which requires talented distillation and aging. Enjoy your Quinta Ruban, cheers!
      P.S., whisky prices have gotten crazy lately

    I’d love a review on the Nectar d’or. Just found this channel and am loving the content. Very thoughtful and good quality videos. Because of the quantity of UA-cam videos out there, I am picky about watching videos that sound and look good. Great stuff! I typically drink bourbon, but love the 20 or so scotches I’ve had and am continually looking to branch out into more.

      Oops. I just looked over my notes, more like 40 or so scotches, but many were single pours in a bar and not bottles.

    Hi Kevin, tried the QR14 today and it is very good. With just a drop or two of water I get a lasting minty chocolate flavor that I really like. It is definitely a big step up from their 10 yr., I will be getting another bottle of the QR14.

    Quinta Ruban 14 is not among my absolute favorites but it is one of the reliable malts I always look for. Just like a classic movie or a book or music album. Competent, reliable, well presented, easy going yet interesting, available and affordable. I finished my bottle less than a month ago and I just might get another one while it is still priced around 45-46 USD where I live. I cannot think of other 14 yo whisky that has better price/quality ratio than Quinta Ruban 14. It also makes great present even for casual whisky drinkers and novices.

      @@WhiskyRiffs As weird as it may look Glenmorangie prices on our market dropped by roughly 15% almost an year ago. First I thought it was something of a special sale but the prices haven't moved since then. Around Christmas I purchased a bottle of Quinta Ruban for a family friends at even lower price of around 40 USD by current exchange rates😀
      I'm talking 10yo Original, Quinta Ruban 14, Lasanta and Nectar d'Or.

      That’s a nice problem to have. I know the US dropped tariffs on Scotch a few months back, but I haven’t seen significant price drops in California.

      Close, it's Gibson's less expensive brand: Epiphone. It has Probucker mini humbuckers, which have a great vintage sound. Here are all my guitar models:

      - 2019 Taylor 314ce

    Try comparing it once with the Tomatin 14 years Port Cask. Both Highlands and both bottled at 46% and both 14 years old.
    Still I prefer the Glenmorangie to the Tomatin. But the Tomatin is also good.
    But the Quinta Ruban is indeed a very good whisky. And for 45 Euro here in the Netherlands it is also quite affordable.

    • @WhiskyRiffs

    Kavalan Concertmaster Port Cask Finish (green bottle) is by far the best port finish I ever had. I haven't had Quinta Ruban yet, but judging by other Glenmorangie's I doubt it's any better. Considering every other bottle that I've tried from my top favorite Finnish distillery Teerenpeli, their Portti bottling might be close to Kavalan. Or even better :) Didn't have time to pick that one up yet.
    Everything I had from Glenmorangie so far was OK and fine, but unfortunately nothing made me excited. Hope soon enough Signet can change it :)

    • @WhiskyRiffs
      @WhiskyRiffs  2 роки тому +1

      I haven't tried that expression of Kavalan, but I can see it available for about $80 around San Francisco. It's now on my list, thanks. I really love the Glenmorangie Signet (you can see that in my episode about it) and I consistently enjoy the Quinta Ruban 14. I fell in love with it when it was a 12 year, but those days are gone. Cheers!

    How is this compared to red breast 12

    • @WhiskyRiffs
      @WhiskyRiffs  2 роки тому

      Those are two very different expressions. The Redbreast 12 is usually at 40% ABV (unless you get the Cask Strength expression) and is a very gentle sip due to the triple-distilled process. For me it's butter on the nose and a very creamy taste. The Quinta Ruban 14 is intense sherry notes and more intense at 46% ABV. I love them both, but they really don't compare directly. Cheers!

    Coming from a Bourbon guy that doesn’t like scotch: I tried this as a recommendation that this would be the bourbon to “get me into Scotch”. I have to say, it was tastier than any other scotch I’ve had but I think I’ll stick to Bourbon. 😅

    • @WhiskyRiffs
      @WhiskyRiffs  Рік тому

      I was a bourbon guy for a long time, but my British friends got me started on Scotch. After I tried a Laphroaig 10, I was sold. But that's no where near the flavors of bourbon. Somehow it just clicked with me. Thanks for sharing!
