Ahh appreciate the support! I own cinema cameras and other fancy gear to shoot commercially, but I tell you what, this little camera never ceases to blow me away. Especially for things like this, it really can't be beaten in versatility. And the image, well, it speaks for itself :)
@@etchd_ I'm really surprised by how good the image is, too. I actually watched this on my 55" 4K TV and it looked fantastic. Hopefully OM-Systems can get Blackmagic Raw output in a firmware update.
@@Sodacake Great to hear. I haven't actually watched this on my tv yet. Will have to do that now. BRAW would be awesome and definitely a huge improvement over ProRes RAW which is useless in my opinion. There is a good chance I'd say!
Hey! thanks for the love! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Haha yes, well it's a flex worth mentioning. It really is a massive asset when filming in places like that!
Yoo thanks man! We certainly saw a tonne of wildlife on these voyages! bloody missed out on South Georgia again though haha. Next time. Hopefully Oct next year. Shame you couldn't have come again. I had a crew room this time, porthole and bunk bed life ha
Amazing compositions! Hands down THE best wildlife camera in the game. Only wish OM Systems had a better log profile to work with when color grading, or I'd probably still be using Olympus for most of my work.
Thanks so much! Yes, it has been so damn good for all the adventure work I do and for capturing wildlife. The lut is definitely something to be desired. Rest assured we are talking with them to try and amend it. I just grade from scratch though and using the tone curve, can do a much better job. Are you using Resolve?
@@etchd_ you definitely got the most out of that image, man, looks incredible! Yep, I’m a Resolve user, would love to see OM System give us a log profile with some more latitude and flexibility, keep their feet to the fire, lol! Also, I am sure your extra two bits of color depth goes a long way and I won’t ignore that. My experience is with the EM-1 Mark iii, which your video has made me want to take off my shelf and start using again.
@@etchd_ just wanted to join the chorus of praise on this film of yours! You’re the GOAT for getting OMDS to care about video and I will eat my shoe if they make some (firmware) video improvements thanks to your feedback and contributions. ❤
@@DeityOfRS Hey mate! haha thank you for the kind praise! Not sure about the GOAT status but I'm honoured! Chris Eyre-Walker is probably at that level, I'm still relatively new to motion capture, but really loving it. Fingers crossed the next firmware or camera iterations bring even more greatness. That being said, you can push a lot from these cameras and the image is amazing!
Really amazing and inspiring! In an old video I think you mentioned using a bloom filter to soften the results but do you findyou need this on the om1 as well?
Thank you for the kind words! No filters were used for this shoot and i think ive used them on an outdoor shoot once for this camera. It definitely does make it look a little more 'filmic' but for wildlife shoots like this, you generally want crisp sharpness! That being said, ill record my youtubes using a 1/4 mist!
This also sounds great. What audio solution do you use, both in terms of microphone and recorder if you use one. It's disappointing the OM-1 doesn't have an XLR adapter like Panasonic does.
Hi mate, thanks so much. I actually only recorded scratch from the OM-1, but 99% of this was sound design using stock SFX! while it's nice to have an XLR adaptor, honestly i havent encountered an issue using the 3.5mm shotgun mics. I have XLR for my FX3 but find i use the 3.5mm most of the time. What kind of stuff are you shooting that requires XLR?
@@etchd_ just the bits you didnt show, yes please, setting up useful but I think I can see how well the lens worked. I can see why the trip affected such joy. Loving how easy the om1 is to like. Not just a jack of all trades but the friend helping you out. Just back from my first bike packing trip this am. Wanted to try astro but overcast. Next time. Would never have been considered before buying an om1. Last year went to British rally in Wales...watch ai lock into cars at 60 FPS as they came down hill.
@@simonc8265 Ahh right! Ha, i narrowed it down to about 2-hours worth of clips to sort through for this final product. Every time I go down south, my mind is blown and i feel at home.
Hi mate, i shot it for the slo-motion but also because i didn't have time to put on an ND, so I'd rather have nice motion blur and shoot slow motion than crank the shutter more than i already did ha!
Hey bro! Nice video. I have a quick question: If I can only take a single lens for vlogging or traveling, would the 12-100mm be a good choice? I currently own the OM-1 with the 60mm macro lens and was about to replace it with a Sony a6700 combo. However, after watching your video, I felt like maybe I can buy a new lens instead, as the OM1 seems like a good camera for videos too. I'd appreciate it very much if you could share some thoughts. Thanks in advance!
Hi mate! sorry for the late reply! thanks so much. Ahh the 12-100 is ok, but it's probably not the best being an F4. The 12-40mm 2.8 would be better i reckon. And much lighter. The 12-100 though is definitely the pick if you want something that you can use to film other stuff with as well as shoot travel stills!
Hi mate, glad you liked it! that's a question that is unanswerable haha. Define professional work for you? what do you shoot? what lenses will you use etc. Both of these cameras will deliver you professional quality work if you learn how to use them to the best of theirs and your ability!
I’m afraid that my version doesn’t show that info. NTW the pictures are great. I’ve been down there and got some reasonable results (didn’t like Drakes passage…!!)
How much post did you do to improve the images, or are they SOOC? Were you able to wear gloves while using the OM-1? I paid retail for my OM-1 (which sits in a box) and all of my camera gear.
Hi mate, All shots were shot in OMLog400, so they were definitely not SOOC. As a professional, I like to have full control of the post production. Dials were totally fine to use with gloves. Both thin and thick fingered gloves. I haven't tried them with mitts. Reading reviews about the ergonomics of the camera and basing your choices on those alone without trying yourself is a little strange don't you think? I mean, surely you wouldn't buy a pair of shoes based on a reviewers opinion of how they fit their own feet? Your hand size and dexterity may very well not suit the OM-1. And if it was perfect for your hand size, then it's likely no good for mine. If only we could have a personalised grip for every person! It sounds like you have already made your mind up about the camera and it's apparent flaws, even though you say you haven't even used the camera and it's in it's box? I'm confused, why wouldn't you sell it and buy something that suits you better? Seems like a waste of money to me.
Hi mate, thanks for the comment. I didnt actually wear any gloves for 99% of the shots as i didn't need to! But when i was operating with gloves on i had no issues. Ergonomics is one of those entirely subjective opinions. My hands are sized perfectly for the grip and it's second nature for me to find the dials!
