      Not really. Nowadays pitchers come back perfectly fine after TJ surgery. Many up and coming top recruits literally get the surgery before even getting to the pros. With today's medical advancements TJ is a non issue for pitchers. Hell a lot of pitchers actually throw even faster after because that ligament isn't gonna tear again. And fyi it's basically guaranteed he's gonna need TJ at some point in his career. I'd be willing to bet it'll be within 2 years

    love the content, really nice video.
    question: you noted that when a batter fouls a ball straight back, it means they barely missed strong contact (not your exact quote, but that’s the idea)
    i played baseball through my childhood, til i was 20 years old
    i watched many hundreds of games, if not a couple thousand full games
    i heard announcers say that datum over and over and over again
    it seems completely false to me
    it seems more like that the batter *FELT* they just missed it, probably because no reverberation through the bat, a nice fluid swing, etc
    but…it seems like, in terms of physics, *that’s* the foul ball indicating they almost completely *missed* the ball
    after all, foul straight back seems to mean the batter made the *least* amount of available contact
    and on the other hand, the foul ball that made a lot of barrel, just barely made it behind the netting of home plate, and may have actually stung the batters hands…*that’s* the one they actually just missed, even though the contact didn’t *feel* great
    thoughts?

    • @StupendousSport
      @StupendousSport  Рік тому +2

      It can mean they just swung under it, but looking back, I may not be entirely correct about that in the video. Most likely, he was a bit late to the pitch, so didn’t barely miss it, but honestly, even making contact against a pitch like that is pretty impressive.

    • @ericholmquest2988
      @ericholmquest2988 Рік тому +1

      Pretty sure he's referring to the timing. He had really great timing on the ball just the location of the bat was low. When you're late it'd foul off way right as a righty hitter. If you look at the side view of the pitch he met the ball at a pretty good time. He was ever so slightly late but had he actually locate the bat a little higher the most it'd go to the right would be the gap between CF and RF. That hit squared would have been a gap shot

    • @jonathanwestmeyer3075
      @jonathanwestmeyer3075 Рік тому

      It’s still a splitter, it can’t be both. They wouldn’t make a completely new pitch type for only 1 guy that throws it. Splinker is purely a nickname, similar to “The Airbender” for Devin Williams, it’s still a changeup

    • @Christopher-tayso
      @Christopher-tayso Рік тому

      @@jonathanwestmeyer3075 it’s heavily pronated change up which is basically a screw ball that’s literally how they used to teach people to throw them at first , pitches have pitch names for a reason like pitch grip & pronation people called devins pitch a change up because of the ways its gripped Duran doesn’t grip he’s like a splitter

    • @jonathanwestmeyer3075
      @jonathanwestmeyer3075 11 місяців тому +1

      @@Christopher-tayso you realize you still probate a changeup right? And screwballs have different grips than changeups, that what makes his a changeup and not a screwball. @@jonathanwestmeyer3075 I never said they weren’t pronated why do you think I said “heavily “ also I said that’s how they would teach people to throw them at first like when they’re learning how to throw it , I’m confused if you have trouble reading or your just being intellectually dishonest . Lastly you don’t know that he “definitely “ grips it like a splitter because he’s never publicly shown his grip all we have is what it looks like coming out the hand or in the glove and it’s obvious that his grip is no where near as deeps as splitter. He will last, but to say he's unhittable, as a lifelong Twins fan is very incorrect. He's blown a fair number of saves, hitters can connect with 105 mph fastball. His curve and junk breaks so hard that it's usually not a strike and often the catcher needs to put his body in front of it. He's amazing and one of the best saves guys, but not the best yet.
