It needs less salt. Try to read the scale and aim for 1024-1025.

Hi, I have a Koi pond ( freshwater) that need some salt. The recomendation is 1 pound of salt per 100 gallons of water. I beleive that is 0.1%. How do I read this in the hydrometer? I'm thinking of buying the same hydrometer you have. Thank you, Phil

Total noob here, so if it says you got 1.0 20, do you got 20ppm?!? Or how does that work?

It’s measuring the density (specific gravity) of the water. There are a couple units density can be reported but ppm isn’t one of them.
