Papa Meat has quickly become one of my favorite people online. I love people that can just have fun, joking around, no maliciousness, and not worry about what other's are saying or thinking about you. You're a legend man, love seeing all this success for you.
Papa’s imitation of the dad growling “what the fuck IS this” to the beaker, the driveway, and the flowers on his porch are up there with the funniest thing I’ve ever seen.
The fact that he wears a baseball cap and the lab coat is hilarious to me. “When you gotta feed your intestinal parasite plant at 8:30 but gotta pitch a no hitter at 9”
“I’ve been perpetually 97 years old forever, I’ve been here since the beginning of time.” Holy fuck I laughed for about 10 minutes straight. We need more goosebumps recaps!😂
"no, I'm an angry scientist" is actually such a baller line. Papa, you're 100% right this concept and what the OG goosebumps episode laid down could be adapted into such a fantastic modern B-Movie; you'd just have to get the right people involved. Off the bat I have so many ideas as to how some of these sequences that don't translate due to the times and the MPA rating could be shot and acted out with very visceral presentation today.
I want to see the dad have sex with a plant and then throw a fit when his daughter walks in. *“HOW MANY TIMES HAVE I TOLD YOU?!?”* Or like the phone conversation part. “Mom. Dad was having sex with a bush.” *dad snatches phone* “It was a fern, my love. And I had no real feelings for it. I’ll see you soon. Have fun on your trip. Buh bye.” *hangs up phone while giving his daughter the death stare*
Just gore everywhere. Plants invading people's eyes and noses, then controlling them like puppets...If I wasn't already working on a novel, I'd totally write a horror book...
The flowers mimicking the dad's voice is like when the plants in The Ruins imitate phone rings/friends' voices to lure them deeper into the thicker bushes
@@fightvale57 I HATE the Ruins. Characters were extremely stupid throughout the film. They didn't test the rope strength before lowering the guy down. They understood that the plants hurt them when they touched it but didn't put on any protection for their hands. They could have done that and started wrapping the dangerous plants around rocks and throwing it at the people keeping them up there. Characters made multiple fires...but didn't try to burn the plants. The guy that got taken, after his feet were cut off, should have been an indication that the girl that had it swimming in her head should have been cut down. It was about surviving and the 'doctor' should have known. There was very little communication in the whole movie. I watched most of it with my wife. I left after 'girl with stuff swimming in her head' killed her boyfriend. I'd compare it to any horror movie that has a victim not grabbing a weapon or getting help when being chased by a killer. Started with an 'oh shit' moment of the camera friend getting shot, middle with laughing when the boyfriend saying 'so glad we cut his feet off'...to 'this movie is stupid'.
The Ruins movie was garbage. The Ruins book was really good. I hated the way the vine looked. In the book, it's described as vibrant green, the vine in the movie looked too muted. As far as burning it goes, green plants have too much moisture to burn so I don't think it would have done much damage if they had tried. And as for throwing vine wrapped rocks, what would that have accomplished? The earth around the ruins is salted to prevent spread and I think the locals would have just shot them.

Yes plant food. It would usually be a mix of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium (N-P-K). These are minerals in the soil that plants take in to help grow leaves, flowers/fruits and root systems. It would make sense that it was near the sink because usually you need to mix it with water or water the soil after using it.
One of those things that was always ingrained in my brain from childhood, you need miracle grow or cleaning spray or some other weird chemicals you shouldn't eat? It's always under the kitchen sink
Plant food is a misleading term. 😂 Essential nutrients makes more sense. Because plants make their own food but need those other nutrients like nitrogen for nucleic and amino acids.
@@huntersedlacek7495 true but lots of terms we use are misleading. Still if you went into a store that has horticulture supplies and ask for "plant food" they would not only immediately know what you mean but the product they give you will probably be labeled plant food. Fertilizer would be the more accurate term. Like melting animal fat is technically creating grease but if you called it juice people would know what you meant because to a layman a juicey burger sounds better than a greasy burger.
You did a very nice job with the set dressing and the lighting. If you look close there are not a ton of plants, but the green lighting really gives it a "oh hey Meat Canyon is in a horrible plant nightmare."
“The Haunted Mask” episode scared me back in the day when she can’t take it off. The little girl did a good job of displaying confusion and helplessness.
The werewolf of fever swamp is still my favorite episode. The mask had a part 2 episode of a little boy who got an old man mask and at one point he realizes there are a ton of spiders in his hair crawling all over him and freaks out. That one was really good too. Usually part 2 episodes aren't as good but this was I would say was equally or slightly lower than the 1st one. The scene where all the ghosts are in the graveyard flying around was good. The episode did a really good job of making me feel depressed with her bullying in school, kids putting worms in her sandwich, her mom not understanding that the costume she worked so hard to make, the duck costume, was stupid and she would just get made fun of worse so she tears it up screaming and crying was so good and portrays the anger and sadness of no one understanding you. It definitely one of the best ones. The other best one is the family that moves to the dark town where everybody is dead and eating people and the family wreath is what's helping the family but they accidentally burn it.
The way that the boy wakes up when he hears the creaking is how still-sorta-drunk people wake up after a hard night. You walk in and they just nosferatu on up.
This one and The Haunted Mask. I watched that VHS until it broke and had the Halloween mask as well. In the movie, it was so slimey and fucking terrifying. Pretty much everything they used for the modern jack black movies were the ones I never cared about. Would love to see someone try their hand at a Haunted Mask remake, but for adults
The book used to traumatize me so much, and it was the first time I experienced the “clone” dilemma, so when the kid dug the axe into the fake fathers head and he died screaming into a bunch of green liquid I was traumatized lol

I just rewatched the goosebumps tier list yesterday (for like the 30th time cuz it’s a perfect video) and was like “Aw man he never made that video…” Papa delivers. I’ll never doubt again
This and the mask episode have always been my two favourites. Such a good story for the mask one and just the amazing horror factor for the stay out of the basement one
Yep… too relatable. You even get the “parentified child” response when the daughter tries to make breakfast for her dad to please him. As a way to avoid abuse or be ‘good enough.’ And when the dad makes breakfast for them and is basically love bombing to try to win affection back and regain their trust. Pretty deep stuff for a kids movie
I love that an incredible animator is just as good if not substantially better than most other commentary channels in this genre as well. I haven't laughed so hard or so frequently from a review/breakdown in a long time
This was the very first episode of goosebumps that I ever saw as a kid and it sparked my interest in horror, but unfortunately no other goosebumps episode was ever close to this good.
goosebumps was what triggered my love for horror movies when i was like, 8 my whole family on my grandpas side loves horror and that really made me a proper part of the family and THIS EPISODE was the 1 episode that always made me uncomfortable whenever i would rewatch the episodes
I remember watching this episode and the one about the aliens who made the cookies that turned kids into aliens. The part with the worms on the bed traumatized me for months, I always had to check that there were no worms on my bed when going to sleep.
goosebumps are such a huge cultural thing for all the 90s kids . brings back so many memories , and all the covers are so cool i remember staring at them as a kid
I vividly remember how different the resolution is between the episode and the book. Because the callback is to the green blood. The girl freaking slices the arm on her father and he bleeds real blood, and that's how they know who the real one is. A lot of the stuff in the books is a lot darker than what they put on TV.
I weirdly have a very vivid memory as a kid watching, "Stay out of the Basement" late one night over at a friend's house, and it was just terrifying to me at the time. Staying up late to watch it and then having to sleep in a house I wasn't used to being in, it left a major impression on me. Might even be one of the earliest horror films I saw as a kid that made me start to realize I loved watching Horror Movies.
I used to be in daycare in the early 2000s and my mom was always the latest to pick me up. It was a family business that my mom knew the owner, so things at that daycare were unorthodox. I remember one night, I was the last kid to be picked up, so eventually the room I was in emptied and it was just me. The teacher just threw on this goosebumps episode on VHS and left the room, so I watched this episode for the first time (and was my introduction to goosebumps) in an empty daycare room at night. It freaked me out like crazy.
YESSS werewolf of fever swamp was so good. It scared the shit out of me when I was a kid. The place that they filmed it in was so spooky and cool. Loved it.
Starting to worry about Papa Meat's childhood but he's so relatable and I love the videos. Hope he still makes more stuff like this with his break on the Meatcanyon channel
I would love to see Hunter cover more goosebumps / are you afraid of the dark episodes... Most of the stories are absolutely bananas and his type of humour works so well with them
Yes! This episode of goosebumps is the only one that really stuck with me into adulthood. One of those things that randomly pops into your head throughout your life bc it really scared the crap out of you as a kid.
When I was a kid, I rented this one on VHS from my local library. However, when I went to play it the cassette malfunctioned and began spitting out all the tape, which broke when I pulled it out of the VHS player. So I never got to watch it. Good times.
Dude... I keep plant food under my kitchen sink... I honestly thought that was normal till this video. I keep a lot of small plants in my kitchen, and the sink is right there.
You are such a multifaceted content creator, I've been binging the second channel since I came across it a few weeks ago and all your videos have been such good entertainment. Thank you.
This one definitely stuck out to me the most! Great concept and it was executed so well. It had the right levels of kid’s horror, grotesque imagery and atmosphere.
That shot of Margaret's face as a plant is beautiful. Looks like a sci-fi novel cover. So many "what if"s in this story. That's really what makes a good horror short. It needs to make you sit there wondering, after you watch it. Had a blast seeing you at comicon!
I absolutely love these, in depth videos about certain goosebumps films.Meat canyon does a great job verbalizing my passion for goosebumps and the similar thoughts we have especially picking up the neglectful abuse from the parents and gaslighting. I would love to see more of these videos.
“Plant Food” or “Plant Feeder” used to be the name given to research chemicals (aka psychoactive drugs”) sold at smoke shops, labeled this way so they were able to say “not for human consumption” and continue to sell them legally. Although this predates the existence of these it’s pretty interesting how it creates some new parallels between drug use and turning into a fiendish monster.
Papa has such a unique analyzing and commenting style, very entertaining Really adds more specific views on horror and involuntarily comedy to the movie, love it I hope he will review some extreme horror movies like Martyrs
I grew up loving Goosebumps and collecting the books and watching the shows. There was something so special about the 90's and early 2000's. Im really glad I got to experience it growing up.
You know it's funny that I just realized, when the dad is walking up and he's right outside the house and then he looks at the yellow flowers... It's because he thinks they're talking lol he thinks the voice that's coming from inside the house is coming from the flower which is awesome foreshadowing and implies that that's what he was trying to do in the basement.
I had this episode on VHS as a kid. This, and The Haunted Mask. I watched the hell out of both of them. But yea…. I still scream “Stay Outta the Basement!” Randomly sometimes
I’ve been loving the videos lately, the hard work you do between animations and the Papameat channel is super impressive. Best creator to rise in the last 6 years

As a kid I love Goosebumps. I collected the books and loved every story. It was just so fascinating, and the open endings always left you wondering if everything was really alright or not.
this one reminds me of a combination of ''little shop of horrors,'' and that creepshow episode where the meteor hits on this farm and the farm, and the farmer all , everything just gets overtaken and turned into plants , i bet you could make a hella fun video reacting and commentating on creepshow, both of em, the first one that came out in early 80s and the 2nd one that came out in like 87 or 88 .

Or Goosebumps episodes
I just rewatched the goosebumps tier list yesterday (for like the 30th time cuz it’s a perfect video) and was like
“Aw man he never made that video…”
Papa delivers. I’ll never doubt again
This and the mask episode have always been my two favourites. Such a good story for the mask one and just the amazing horror factor for the stay out of the basement one
Monster Blood Series? Eggs From Mars?
I had a dad with temper issues who was an avid gaslighter. This episode always upset me as a kid. Lol
Same, temper issues is an understatement for my dad though.
Same. This did bring back some unpleasant memories, at least it was mostly funny.
Tf you can’t admit something so terrifying and say lol like that’s sane 😭
@@Itscicero Sometimes you got to laugh it off, people deal with things differently lol
This one stayed with me through the years solely because of the Dad's performance... it's effectively creepy as hell.
The Haunted Mask episode is really good too. Check that one out.
Personally I love them all
A Night in Terror Tower was good too.
The werewolf of fever swamp is not half bad
Old comment, but the Haunted Mask and Werewolf Skin were genuinely freaky in my opinion.
"I will neglect my kids for fun" - meatcanyon 2023
goosebumps was what triggered my love for horror movies when i was like, 8
my whole family on my grandpas side loves horror and that really made me a proper part of the family
and THIS EPISODE was the 1 episode that always made me uncomfortable whenever i would rewatch the episodes
Those books were such a huge part of my childhood (horrorland and all), definitely the main reason I got into horror
Right up there with the flip animation corners of every Animorphs book. 😁
Man I was born in the early 2000s but man I have vivid memories of walking to the library after school and renting out the dvds. Good times for sure
Man I was born in the early 2000s but man I have vivid memories of walking to the library after school and renting out the dvds. Good times for sure
Yeah man, the front covers were really cool. I only read 3 of them, but they were great.n
I had this on VHS and I would have this on replay all the time, definitely a certified hood classic
I vividly remember how different the resolution is between the episode and the book. Because the callback is to the green blood. The girl freaking slices the arm on her father and he bleeds real blood, and that's how they know who the real one is. A lot of the stuff in the books is a lot darker than what they put on TV.
And another huge switch was that the dad with the hat was the REAL dad all along and the dad they untied was in fact a clone.
@@claytonlatone8959 wait, but then how does it explain the bed of warms and the green blood in the sink scene?
@@EveTheRavioloHe broke out and captured his clone?
The books were legit scary, man. That Say Cheese one freaked me the fuck out as a kid.
In the original book, they attack the dads with an axe instead of weed killer, which is why the “spot the imposter” was very important.
'Stay out of the basement' f**ked me up as a kid 🤣
I weirdly have a very vivid memory as a kid watching, "Stay out of the Basement" late one night over at a friend's house, and it was just terrifying to me at the time. Staying up late to watch it and then having to sleep in a house I wasn't used to being in, it left a major impression on me. Might even be one of the earliest horror films I saw as a kid that made me start to realize I loved watching Horror Movies.
I bet you were scared of the basement for awhile huh😅 I still run up the stairs on my hands and knees when I have to turn the light off
I used to be in daycare in the early 2000s and my mom was always the latest to pick me up. It freaked me out like crazy.
i’ve unironically been waiting for this video since the goosebumps tier list. thank you papa meat.
Love the set and lights! And the lab coat! Keep up the great content, looking forward to October spooky stuff like this
Those courtesy honks broke me and I couldn't stop laughing.
Came for weird funny animations stayed for PAPA MEAT
Thank you, Mr Pringle
Agreed ❤
I love how Meat subconsciously wants to beat a kid
“ACT LIKE A PLANT”
*starts tilting head awkwardly scanning room* hahahahahahahahaha
Core memory: going over to my grandmas house and watching this goosebumps on vhs with my cousins and shitting my pants
Man I love your content dude. Podcasts with Noel, main channel and this. Just keep it all coming. Love it all.
Please do more goosebumps episodes 🙏 Im just glad Im not the only one who genuinely still loves goosebumps.
goosebumps is such an underrated gem of the 90s
I absolutely love these, in depth videos about certain goosebumps films.Meat canyon does a great job verbalizing my passion for goosebumps and the similar thoughts we have especially picking up the neglectful abuse from the parents and gaslighting. I would love to see more of these videos.
fun fact about the worms; they increase plant production. that's probably why they were in the plant dad's bed
This is hands down my favorite episode on your channel! Please make more like this.
Papa has such a unique analyzing and commenting style, very entertaining
Really adds more specific views on horror and involuntarily comedy to the movie, love it
I hope he will review some extreme horror movies like Martyrs
Yes BODY HORROR TIER LIST
I love that you are showing love to Papa Trev. You're the fucking best. Rest in Power, Trevor Strnad.
I grew up loving Goosebumps and collecting the books and watching the shows. There was something so special about the 90's and early 2000's. Im really glad I got to experience it growing up.
Absolutely 💯. The 90s were the best, the peak of human existence
Its cool to know youre a TBDM fan! RIP Trevor

♪He’s gonna take you back to the past, to play the shitty games that suck ass. ♪
You know it's funny that I just realized, when the dad is walking up and he's right outside the house and then he looks at the yellow flowers... It's because he thinks they're talking lol he thinks the voice that's coming from inside the house is coming from the flower which is awesome foreshadowing and implies that that's what he was trying to do in the basement.
man, i hope he does more goosebumps videos like this. Had me fuckin' dying with this one 😂
21:45 made gasp for air 🤣
@@UtubEee3For me, it was 18:43. Did not expect that joke.
If you want similar content, John Wolfe does Goose Bump reviews too, including their differences with the books. He's as salty as Papa lol it's great
This was the very first book I read and also by complete coincidence the first episode I ever caught of Goosebumps, a masterpiece in children's horror
22:02 beard meets food catchphrase
I had this episode on VHS as a kid. This, and The Haunted Mask. I watched the hell out of both of them. But yea…. I still scream “Stay Outta the Basement!” Randomly sometimes
The dad's just hiding pot in the basement
I’ve been loving the videos lately, the hard work you do between animations and the Papameat channel is super impressive. Best creator to rise in the last 6 years
this episode has been my favorite since i was young, i still rewatch it every year cause it’s so good
This is my favourite video you have made. I really appreciate the long form review content.
How did I miss this video? I've been waiting for it since the Goosebumps tier list video. This would be a good plot for a horror movie
Long time viewer, first time commenter here… I just wanna say I love your content! I always find myself rewinding a few funny moments on each long form video you post. Your humor is so similar to me and my friend.
As a kid I love Goosebumps. I collected the books and loved every story. It was just so fascinating, and the open endings always left you wondering if everything was really alright or not.
I RECOGNIZED THE EPISODE RIGHT FROM THE THUMBNAIL!! This episode was haunting as a kid and instantly brought back so many memories
The passion he has for this video and episode is a joy for me to rewatch
this one reminds me of a combination of ''little shop of horrors,'' and that creepshow episode where the meteor hits on this farm and the farm, and the farmer all , everything just gets overtaken and turned into plants , i bet you could make a hella fun video reacting and commentating on creepshow, both of em, the first one that came out in early 80s and the 2nd one that came out in like 87 or 88 .
Ok but the decorations for this video are top tier 😂
He might as well just remake this entire episode in his vision for Meatcanyon.
I have literally been waiting for this since that goosebumps video, thank you papa.
This was awesome, thank you for the vid!
this is the second time you have reminded me of something long forgotten in my childhood... best channel ever my dude
