    I want to see a movie with all the failed Jigsaw victims. Like, a guy so done with life, he just jumps into a meat grinder before Jigsaw even finishes explaining the trap.
    Or someone with excellent irl speedrun strats, that is out of the trap and just goes back to commiting worse crimes.

    One of the reasons they used the speed up twitch effect so much was due to budget issues, they didn't have the greatest effects budget so rather than try to show the gore and after affects they used the speed/music/and twitching effect to help imply the danger and fear of what the person was feeling. That's also why 90% of the movie takes place in one room, the bathroom. Most of the hallmarks of Saw came from doing what they could with a low budget and making that shit *work.*

    Interesting tidbit: During the run of movies 2-6, there was a lot of youtube theories being thrown around as to what will happen next. A prominent one being that Dr. Gordon was behind a lot of the traps and would later be revealed.
    There were plenty of somewhat reaching pieces of evidence to support this theory, such as the short clip of jigsaw with a limp during the video he showed to the Venus fly trap victim. Or the suggestion that only a doctor could have made some of the traps.
    Eventually, when Dr. Gordon is revealed to be a part of it after all, the movie shows that same clip and uses a lot of the supporting evidence documented among fans. Almost as if the reveal of Dr. Gordon was not a twist, but instead it was direct fan service.
    Could be that the makers of saw had the same idea as the fans, could be sheer coincidence, or could be an instance of fans helping to shape the story of a franchise.

    • @Hulktor12
      @Hulktor12 Рік тому +36

      Man, I miss those days of staying up late reading fan theories on IMDB (Can't remember the other site forums) but the theory of Gordon being involved has existed since Saw 2. Also, I remember a fan theory of two friends having to fight each other for the girl they both cheated with which was later a trap in Saw 3D. I can't remember what the trap was specifically but they both realized the girl wasn't worth it, stayed as bros and let her die. I believe the writers floated around the forums to get ideas and probably tried to fit Gordon in as a final twist in hopes to keep everyone happy.

It's a very fun thing to watch with people who don't like scary movies imo, because they also do a lot of story with the detectives and it almost makes it like a really long episode of criminal minds.

    I think part of what makes Saw X so much better is that it's not trying to make Jigsaw into this "but what if he's right" character, but rather it humanized him. It does that by focusing on his hopes, the betrayal he feels, his relationship with Amanda, and by also pointing out his own hypocrisy on the "I'm not really killing people" thought process (the creatives of this movie explicitly wanted to call that out). It's taking a character that the previous movies tried to turn into this sort cult leader/martyr of a man, and just makes him an actual human being that has a very corrupt sense of justice and is kind of high off his own dogma. Another big plus is the fact that the filmmakers realized the police plotlines were holding them back, so they just don't have one for this film.

      No no nope, they absolutely do not, you're just not paying attention, John was _always_ a selfish piece of shit and a hypocrite with a god complex and his code was always incredibly lofty bullshit that was frequently subject to change and just him enacting vengeance, he did nothing for no one, even the apprentices who believed that he 'helped' them were never cured, he just preyed on traumatized people by traumatizing them further and roped them into an almost parent/child variety cycle of abuse where they can never measure up or get things right, which is pretty blatantly evidenced by what a mess Amanda is in Saw III and how she's self-harming (and we've seen how John treats cutters) because nothing about her was fixed and John is ultimately just a vengeful person looking to hurt others. Amanda and even Hoffman are shown to have more humanity to them.
      It is not their fault that you picked up on the obvious and how silly it sounds when he claims he's not a murderer, and yet you think it's the writers fucking up for writing the character well.

      I also liked Saw 2, but I felt like it kinda borrowed from what a movie called Cube did (a bunch of strangers wake up in a place and it’s filled with traps and they have to work together to get out but get killed off one by one, especially as one turns on them). Really fantastic first effort from Vincenzo Natali, who hasn’t had the chance to do much (he made the delightfully fucked up movie Splice and… Haunter, with Abigail Breslin, which I remember being decent, as well as directing some of the best episodes of Hannibal, American Gods, Westworld, etc.)
      Anyway that whole premise was probably born out of Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None anyway, but yeah, Saw 2 = Cube. Still, it’s kinda my favorite genre of bunch of people in a single location dying one by one movies haha.

      It truly is, but having watched the full scene, it wasn’t as scary as I thought it would be. Maybe it’s the acting, or the cinematography, or something else. I know it’s scary in real life and in theory but the movie just sucked at executing it somehow in my opinion

    Saw 3 is easily my favorite here. I like the premise, and the traps are gruesome. It also has a great score, primarily "Pig Juicer", which plays during the scene with the pig vats. That scene sticks with me, as when Jeff burned his son's toys, it made you feel an emotion that the previous 2 films did not make you feel. Also, I internally cheered when I saw where you ranked it. Respect.
    EDIT: See you next year when Saw 11 comes out!
