    Outstanding videos. We just bought a '12 Taurus with 60,000 miles,runs like a top but will be changing the plugs myself.
    I also have a '13 Edge so the vids are very handy.
    I put 287,000 miles on a '02 F-150 with the 5.4 (sold it recently) and changed the plugs on it many times.
    That thing was a royal PITA when it came time to change spark plugs.
    Thanks and keep up the good work.

    Thanks for the videos. I kept putting off having plugs changed, shop quoted $375. After watching how to deal with the manifold removal I decided it was very doable. It took about two hours but I took my time and a few breaks. It was 90 in the shade. All six removed had a uniform tan color and the gap was off the scale of my gapping tool. Poor old coils must have been working hard!

      Not with aluminum. For iron heads the temp doesn't matter but in aluminum you're asking for stripped threads because the metal is softer.

    I cant speak for what vehicle he using in the video but for the 2014 SHO (3.5 EcoBoost) at least you can work without any major moving of parts. The spark plugs should be accessible for the rear bank....(Firewall side) Auto Zone sells a dedicated spark plug socket with the 6" extension already built in to the socket. There is a ball joint to allow a small amount of offset from the plug. The added benefit of this is with the extension and socket all in one their is pretty much a 99% chance that the socket won't fall off the extension or the plug. Beak Torque and let the socket and ratchet (3/8) do the work. The only non spark plug related item I had to move was the strut tower cross brace. That could be considered a structural item so make sure the brace is installed and tight prior to driving. I believe there was a couple of vent tubing to either loosen and set aside but again nothing major.

    Great Video, Thanks. I did replace my spark plugs myself, but while replacing my serpentine belt I noticed there isn't any water pump pulley, read on internet that the water pump is internal and driven by the timing chain, and something about a casting flaw could cause major damage due to fords poor design, my 2007 has 102,000 miles now, should I be concerned? what to look for? keep checking coolant bottle for oil contamination? sell or trade while running good? now I have something else to worry about. Thanks for replies.

    • @FordTechMakuloco
      @FordTechMakuloco  9 років тому

      Ddd Ddd The casting flaw I am not aware of but the seal around the shaft can fail just as any other water pump. These are timing chain driven pumps and are a major job 10hrs labor. If the shaft seal does leak it will follow a channel in the head and leak out above the alternator instead of leaking into the engine oil.

Mine is starting to leak oil and i want to fix it soon. If i want to remove the vct solenoid at the same time is it possible with the valve cover on? At 60-70mph and light acceleration I get sputter (misfire?) and the engine just reacts very rough to the accelerator. One day I was merging onto the highway and I had to step on it hard. My check engine light started blinking and I had almost total power loss. Had to limp along at about 40 mph for a few minutes before light went off and engine resumed normal operation. Think this is a plug issue? Sounds like from all ur vids I have been watching. Thank you!

    Hey dude hopefully you get back to me ASAP. I was changing out my spark plugs on my 2012 Ford Fusion sport. It’s giving me a code p0205. Which isn’t an ignition issue in cyc5. Why would that come pop up? I didn’t touch the injector lines at all and I went back and double checked and everything and still had that code. Would would cause that code from doing spark plugs and not injector ? My car was running perfectly fine with no ignition code ever. Has 72 k miles and just wanted to do my plugs cuz I had time and had car almost 8 yrs new off the lot.

  • @jpandjenniferjones9800

    That glob of dielectric grease will cause misfire. Do not put it where it can interrupt contact between the spark plugs and the coil spring. Dielectric means anti electric.

    • @donho3617
      @donho3617 3 роки тому +1

      No it does not. Dielectric grease is made with silicone and a thickener and prevents water and corrosion from getting between the plug and coil. Any grease that is there will be displaced by the metal to metal contact. Dielectric grease is also helpful when replacing lightbulbs. I worked for Ford for 20 years and used dielectric grease every day and never had a comeback for a misfire from dielectric grease. I was even trained by Ford to use it. Stop spreading myths.

    I attempted this today and failed. Three of my coil boots where stuck and I could not get them out. Furthermore it appears as though the coil boots are not a commonly stocked item at the aftermarket parts stores. It is sitting at the dealership now and my wallet will be $400 lighter. What a poor, poor design. :(

      +2010V6RAV4 when we bought the car it had almost 60,000 miles on it. Plug life on ecoboost's is about 50,000 to 60,000 miles.

      Curious on how you went about accessing the rear plugs. I have a 2010 SHO, and there are so many wires and shit in the way.

    you wish they came out that easy...ford and them plugs are just trash,every vehicle made with them plugs should of been bought back.nothing but problems breaking.

      I've changed dozens of these plugs on multiple Ford vehicles and every single one came out exactly this easy...
