Great Story, I have always liked E30’s & did service a friends 320i in the 1990s. I am lucky to still own my 1st car, a 1987 Vw Polo, MOT’d & on the road. In 1991 I was offered a colleagues 1985 320i white coupe, sunroof, leccy windows, BBS alloys etc. 70,000 miles & fsh for £4000, but I did not quite have the £s. He sold it to a chap, who gave him £3500, & promised the remaining £500, which he never paid, surprise surprise

Thanks for the comment. The e30s were amazing cars. I’d love to buy another, unfortunately where I live now, the condition of them isn’t that good,
Oh nice, it’s so cool having your first car. The polo is such a great car. My friend used to have breadvan version (I think that la what they are called). He restored it just before I left the UK. It was finished in a grey (which kinda reminded me of a battleship). Great little cars!
Oh wow, in 1991, I was already dreaming of owning a BMW, since I was 3/4 1987/88, when he owned a e23 1984 735i.Luckily my father used to own BMWs all the time back then. In 1991 he had a 88 e34 535i SE, which was the car that saved his life.

@@mattsbeamer My Polo is the Breadvan version, mine had the rear sills repaired in 2004 to keep it clean
You were certainly brought up with nice BMWs. Been over engineered must have saved your fathers life
My first job, 1988, the MD & his son had matching 1987 E reg BMW 525’s similar colour to your 1st E30, beautiful cars, I had to wash them both every 2 weeks, when they had a directors meeting, easy colour to clean

Oh nice, I love the breadvan. I will try and find a photo of my friends one. He had a very strange collection of cars. Volvo 850, Volvo 740, Morris Minor, Austin allegro, a few rare Japanese 80s cars. I can’t remember what they are called. Lol.
I was very lucky my father liked BMW’s but he wasn’t a fan like me lol. He had a few rare BMWs too. The car that replaced the e34 was a G reg Alpina B12 based on the e32 750i, a few BMWs later he had a red 850i and many cars later a AC schnitzer e39 m5 individual. I can bore everyone to death talking about it. Lol.
The e28 5 series were very cool cars, it’s another car I’d love to own. I used to love cleaning cars as a kid. 🤣 I still do, but it’s illegal to clean them in the city, here. Lol

Lucky owner of the 1989 Bel Ami here too. Just have to pull out rear-ended part before fresh paint and few mods.

    You have one cool dad!
I had to sneak my Pannonia motorcycle only in cover of darkness into and out from forgotten corner of our shed for 10 days before my father found out that I had bought a motorcycle.
My first motorized four wheel vehicle was ZAZ 965, bought from my class-mates dad. Did not say "car" as at the time it was considered worst vehicle possible a human can drive. And then my mother started to hate me too, told me to get rid of the car or she stops giving me food. Soon after that I sold some of my motorbikes and traded one Jawa 350 + cash for a metallic cherry red E21 320 with 4-speed manual. Bought golden BBS alloys from local rally star and installed them. This was in 1993, I was in 10th grade and so I was famous around most local villages and half of the capital. At one point my friend crashed the ZAZ to the middle of a tree and after fixing it sort of up it got sold and replaced with MZMA 402 from 1956, which I dearly own to this day. Unfortunately the E21 met as sad destiny as the ZAZ but this time by my own hands after the throttle cable got stuck on full.
I could keep going as currently there are 39 motorized vehicles (6 of which are BMWs) in my fleet but people will fall to sleep and youtube would probably run out of space in the interwebs so I just mention to have own two E30 coupes - 1983 320 5-manual and 1987 325 5-manual. Loved them both.
At a moment i'm forced to dailyng F21 M135i as my E12 will not open one of her doors and so she failed the technical inspection. No, do not have time for her now - bought rear-ended 1989 VW Polo Bel Ami and fixing it up properly with some modifications so I could visit Wörthersee 2023.
If you ever happen to adventure to Estonia let me know and I´ll give you a tour.

My first car was a green mustard Austin allegro bought in an auction for 120 pounds in 1984. I drove it without insurance and driving licence . Many years later I had a 316i E30 same colour as yours.

Oh cool, isn’t that like the one Johnny smith from the late brake show is turning into a sleeper. I was going to do an in-depth tour on my friends minter. It was white with an orangey red interior. Unfortunately covid delayed everything. Have a great week :)

@@mattsbeamer yes that's the one! Looks like an interesting channel. When I came back home, I bought another unpopular car : a Renault 14 for around 900 pounds. All the best for your recovery. I heard you have snow already.

@@armadaro9234 thank you :) oh a 14, I don’t think I’ve seen one before, in person. Maybe they rotted quickly.. the first Renaults that I knew about, as a kid were my neighbours 21 savannah (I loved that car) and my teachers red Renault 5.
We had a little sprinkle, but it’s gone already, my daughter was quite disappointed. I was glad, because it’s harder to take my daughter to nursary , lol. Thanks :)

Wishing you a speedy recovery Matt.
You and I must be of a similar age.
I remember the E30 being dirt cheap at that time as the E36 was probably the used BMW of choice for many. How times have changed.
My first car was a 1988 F registration Renault 5 TL. I replaced almost every moving part on it over the one year of ownership but I still wish that I had it today.
My dad took me to collect the car upon passing my test in his MK1 Mégane coupe (much like the one I now own). The difference being that back then the little 5 wasn't worth much compared to the Mégane but today it's the complete opposite.

Thank you Mark! I’m much better now, just a funny nose, but now my daughter is poorly :S
I am 38 :) I remember my dads friend having a e36 323i saloon in this beautiful sage green. I remember it was much more expensive than the worn out old e34 520i he had before.
Wow, the R5 is a great car, my old teacher from primary school had one in a a burnt orangey colour.
It’s crazy how values have totally changed. I guess the e90 will soon be the cheap one and the e46 will go up in price.

Love that story about your dad tricking you, good memories like that last forever. My first car at age 21 was a 2014 Fiesta Black Edition, it was only a 1 litre but had 140ps which at the time felt like an F1 car for a new driver. I subsequently wrote it off after a year 🤣

Good memories do last forever that is true :D
Oh the 2014 fiesta is a great looking car, and I’m pretty sure that it would thrash my old e30. I think it only had about 105ps. The e30 was good fun in the wet, even with very little power.
How old are you? When my brother was 21 maybe a bit older he bought his first car, which was a late mk1 focus 1.8 zetec. That was a beast, lol.
