Hey, pro scratcher of 6 years here: It's incredible that a scratch devlog, especially for such a simple game, could gain 200k views on youtube! Well done sir :3 Edit: 1.2M views. WHAT
Although scratch may appear limiting at first glance, I can assure you, if you know what you're doing, it isn't. Some very smart people have programmed entire 3d rendering engines, rigidbody physics, softbody physics, raytracers, and more all within scratch.
As a featured creator as scratch I was super excited to see this video! 0:34 the "Dream Express" Game that is shown is my game! ✨ Its super epic seeing more people use scratch!
@@Edvit40 you can technically make anything, and making simple things is pretty easy, but you have to make almost everything from scratch (hence the name) so more complex projects are much harder to make than other game engines, especially if you want it to run at a reasonable framerate
Woah!! A scratch devlog 😮 I have been using it for a while, Its funny how people underestimate the program to be only for starters, and then when I show them what is possible with it their jaw drops 😂 P.S: I have made a fangame called DewDrop Fannasty for the game a while back! You can find the trailer I made for it 😄
im so happy you did a video on scratch. I remember disliking scratch because its a website "for 6yrs". I gave scratch a shot over quarentine because i didnt know anythng about game engines and had no other options. I fell in love with the simple yet limitless engine. i saw some incredible projects on scratch and had my mind completely blown. scratch has taught me that problems doesnt have to be solved the traditional way, there could always be easier solutions.
I dont like when people talk about scratch like its a tool to make trash. Because its like a brush: use it badly, you'll make trash, use it well, youll make a masterpiece. Same with scratch.
I have made soft-bodied simulations in Scratch. But If I had half the artistic talent as you, I could go miles. Good job. I have showed them to AIA and AdventureMase already, I wish I could show you too.
This is definitely a cute and cosy game you've made! I love the lil duckie! Looks like a good lil chef. Nice work with using Scratch, this is how I initially got into making games/programming as my school would teach this to us, and it's great software you can definitely do a lot with ti!
I really like the art you’ve been doing for the games recently, Scratch is a great game engine and it’s what I started using. Although it’s visual and fairly basic it’s a great way to learn the mindset of a programmer!
Before even watching the video, I saw a comment. Then, I saw you reply: “you made ducky happy”. I am now watching the video happily with my min exploding with cuteness.
no way it wasn't a platformer with a player character of a black square with curved edges and a single eye jokes aside, i'm glad you got around to doing this!
Scratch is one of my favourite game engines just because of how accessible it is for a young audience (aka younger me ahaha) thank you for making a video with it!! very cute btw ^u^
The way to add custom fonts is long but the end result is amazing. 1. Make a costume with text (make sure it’s in vector mode) 2. Export said costume to your computer, it will save as a SVG (a vector format) 3. Open the SVG with notepad 4. Replace all of the current font of said SVG to another font in your PC (example: I typed text in San Serif, I want to make it into Poppins) 5. Boom, done
Just wanna say I'm new to watching the channel and got drawn in by your art style. Been pretty much bingeing all of your game dev stuff and it's been inspiring me to get into it again too!
@@ScopeCrepe excuse me, can I ask you how can I upload the art on Scratch? I mean I made some in adobe illustrator and when I choose upload they didn't appear to choose :((( sorry if I'm describing too abstruse. hope you can reply me soon!
Omg I used to use scratch so much when I was little. It's such a nice tool, I started my first major game project recently with playmaker and all of the stuff I learned with scratch helped me get feel comfortable so quickly.
It is Affinity Designer. It is really good, you can resize a brush while drawing a line, and viewers update while you are drawing. Unfortunately its vector brush is absolutely terrible using a near arcane simplifier system based on how zoomed in you are rather then a setting you can access, however its other vector tools are fine.
2 years ago i started learning scratch on my own, my teacher started teaching the class scratch, and at the end of the year, i need to present a game in scratch.
as someone who is working on a large-scale game in scratch I found this to be fun... also yeah the books are no good, but you'd be suprised what you can do. I was actually able to create a simple 2d lighting system, sort of like amongus where the light is darker around corners.
dude you really listened to me... I am happy... I was the one who said to make a game is scratch :).... Next game in power point, are accepting this challenge ;)
Hey Goodgis, thanks for the video! I watched alot of your videos and I was wondering if you thought about having one to share with us how do you create ART game assets with your artstyle (not the pixel art, but the vector one)? We saw a bit in this video here, but a video about color palette, layers, masks, forms would be really interesting (with your design background)! Thanks! :)
This is cool When I made a scratch game I used the harverd cs50 class, I was challenged to make a game in a week but because scratch is so easy it only took 1 day. The actual game was just playing "keepy uppy" So a balloon would spawn at a random place on the x axis at the top of the screen and slowly fall down and you click on it to bounce it up after 30 seconds another balloon will spawn and fall faster, This then repeats until there was 4 four balloons and after another 30 seconds you win. It was a simple concept But it was fun nonetheless.
I love scratch i made today my first flappy bird game and I figured out everything with the calculation blocks and the variables myself, I even have skins and it's better than I thought
*smooth movement code* when green flag clicked forever *inside* change x by *operator (mouse y) - (y position)* put that operator into another operator but its a divider * ( (mouse y - (y position) / 10) there its very simple actually
Pretty cool game! However, The Scratch games you showcased at the start weren't the best. I recommend checking out a 3D Scratch game made with rasterization, those are really impressive.
I totally forgot about scratch! I remember using it in primary school to make a game, with a cute little title screen, about sharks. The main goal was to eat as many people as you could before you died from consuming too much plastic
