Good tips. On the catamaran we also let out a lot more chain after the bridal/snubber has been put out. The weight of extra loose chain acts as primary snubber taking the sudden jolt off when gusts push back. On the snubber you can also use rubber shock absorber. For communication we use our cell phone to communicate between person up front and person on the helm, saves all the yelling :)
It’s a good idea to rig double snubbers on port and starboard cleats ... The anchor bracket is one of the most fragile parts on your boat. If the boat sways, this bracket will be bent. Also when retracting the anchor you should pay close attention to the correct position, I miss that in your introduction. strong winds G

I like seeing that you're using an anchor ball. I rarely see it these days (in the Med, in Western Europe is a little more common). Good explanation on standard anchor practices. I'd like to add that certain bottoms, and certain weather conditions will require much more rode (scope 7 to 1 or even 10 to 1 is not uncommon with high swell, soft mud, windy conditions).
Well done! We cruised for 5 years and we soon learned that most cruisers don't anchor properly. We did it exactly like you guys do it including using an ad hoc "range" to see if the anchor is holding and the snubbing line. We add a round of hand compass sights on prominant places (especially lighted places at night) and I made a quick drawing of these in the log. Makes for fascinating reading 40 years later.

Very nice technique. The only thing I would do differently would be to ask your child to stand aft of the windlass while backing down setting the anchor. Smooth sailing.

The Anchor is terrible in weed and grass bottoms, both roll bar anchors Rocna and Manson supreme I would not have on my boat, get and good anchor a Spade or a Spade copy like the Rocna Vulcan or Ultra except the Ultra is stainless so not for me. Put your snubber on the other roller or better a fairlead never with the chain and like a commenter mentions never snig the anchor with the winch have a short anchor hook so you don't have to put on the snubber to snig. Also review how to tie off to a cleat. Cheers "Keep on Cruising" done well so far, always something to learn for all of us, even after 40 years of playing.

In hindsight we should have had both rollers the same size.
10 metres is recommended length for maximum benefit of a snubber in high wind I have a Ultra 21 on our 455 Hanse has never dragged when other’s have Ultra also state after 6 times scope there is no benefit having more

Then a Rocna 33 doesn't seem to be a 2 steps up (discussed earlier in that link) from the recommended size for your large boat.

@@garyhawkesford2253 on a sailboat, the bow does not want to point into the wind. Watch any sloop anchored from the bow...with even the slightest breeze it will "sail at anchor"...in stormy conditions it will do this rather violently and generate severe snatch loads on the ground tackle.

Put a foot on the chain. If it's vibrating, then the anchor is bouncing.

Have you ever considered a bridle vs a single line snubber? Utilizing both bow cleats and no rope on the bow sprit, thus avoiding any chaffing.
Definitely! We haven't had chaffing as we use chafe protectors on the snubber but yes we certainly have considered a bridle.

Nice video, but I personally would use one longer snubbing line. At least by anchoring in more challenging weather.

How will this be safe when the bow always wants to point to wind??
