Words aren't good enough to express how much I love Bale's and Nolan take on Batman throughout the trilogy, and specially how devoted he is to his mission of saving Gotham by sacrificing himself in this movie by painting himself as the villain so that the people of Gotham City can feel hope in the system and people who work within it to fight crime and injustice. The fact that Matt Reeves took some inspiration from this movie in regards that in The Batman Bruce realizes that he must let go of his desire for vengeance, that Batman must become a symbol of hope to inspire Gotham and become the hero that his city needs him to be.

It was AT LEAST 30 seconds of applause after he said "A Dark Knight". The entire cinema erupted. Couldn't believe what we just saw. That's how you end a superhero movie.

Still hasn't been a superhero or comic to movie adaptation anywhere close to The Dark Knight. Brilliant performances from Bale, Oldman, Caine, Freeman, Eckhart, and of course Heath Ledger RIP. Only Collin Farrell with his Penguin character would be worthy of joining this all-star ensemble. Man, I miss the days when big budget blockbusters were actually well scripted, acted, scored, and shot with this kind of precision. A true cinematic masterpiece that probably won't ever be surpassed in my lifetime or beyond. Bravo.

Jimmy: Dad? Dad, is he okay?
(Gordon prepares to call in paramedics when Batman regains consciousness)
    Gordon: Thank you.
Batman: You don’t have to thank me.
    Gordon: Yes I do.
(Batman and Gordon both look at Two-Face’s corpse)
Gordon: The Joker won. Harvey’s prosecution and everything he fought for… undone. Whatever chance you get for fixing our city dies with Harvey’s reputation. We bet it all on him. The Joker took the best of us and tore him down. People will lose hope.
Batman: They won’t. They must never know what he did.
Gordon: Five dead. Two of them cops. You can’t sweep that-
Batman: No. But the Joker cannot win. Gotham needs its true hero.
(Batman turns Two-Face’s head on his good side)
    Gordon: No…
Batman: You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain. I can do those things. Because I’m not a hero. Not like Dent. I killed those people. That’s what I can be.
Gordon: No, no, you can’t! You’re not!
Batman: I’m whatever Gotham needs me to be. Call it in.
(Gordon: A hero, not the hero we deserve, but the hero we needed. Nothing less than a knight, shining.)
(Gordon smashes the Bat-Signal with an axe)
    Gordon: They’ll hunt you.
Batman: You’ll hunt me. You’ll condemn me. Set the dogs on me. Because that what needs to happen. Because sometimes… truth isn’t good enough. Sometimes people deserve more.
(Alfred burns Rachel’s note to Bruce)
    (Lucius activates the self-destruct system)
Batman: Sometimes people deserve to have their faith rewarded.
    (Batman leaves)
Jimmy: Batman. Batman! Why is he running, Dad?
Gordon: Because we have to chase him.
Cop: Okay, we’re going in! Go! Go! Move!
(Cops move in with their guns and dogs)
Jimmy: He didn’t do anything wrong.
Gordon: Because he’s the hero Gotham deserves, but not the one who needs right now. So we’ll hunt him. Because he can take it. Because he’s not our hero.
(Batman gets on the Batpod and makes a getaway)
Gordon: He’s a silent guardian. A watchful protector. A dark knight.

This movie along with the Lord of the Rings and original Star Wars sticks with you way after you first watch it. I remember re-watching this movie plenty of times that summer and buying the Soundtrack and listening to it all the time. There have been no other movies that have done that for me since.

Do you remember the Joker's interrogation scene? When he said that Batman was gonna break his one rule of killing? That's what he wanted throughout the whole movie and now he still won - Batman decides to take the blame for the massacre caused by Two-Face which in theory means he killed some people, thus breaking his rule. The amount of details in this film, man...
