i have one of these radios, it stopped working a few yrs back so it's been collecting dust and you right it's a awesome chassis it's the only reason i've kept it, at some point when i can afford it, i will send it to ya for repairs
That chrome is shining bright. Many of the 2sc1307's in these radio's took a real pounding from the peak-n-tune crowd, now that transistor is really expensive and fraught with fakes
Big fan of that chassis. I own two Robyn SB-520D's, and in the past I've had Realistic, Robyn, and President mobiles and bases with that board. One of my SB-520D's I completely recapped and re-aligned, the other one is all original but aligned. I've been meaning to upgrade the 5v regulators from zener diodes to a fixed voltage reg for better frequency stability but honestly I haven't used it in a good while.
Mike, thanks for the excellent videos. I just picked one up on Friday along with a Colt Black Shadow and a Bowman C.B.-920. All for around 50 bucks. The realistic was the first one I put on the bench. It actually works lol. It was a mess, dirty and scratchy sounding. Deox,d all the pots and cleaned her up. She transmits well. Gong to give her the 100,000 mile over haul. Where can I find the clear bulb for the meter display? The Re one works fine. All the LED’s work. Audio works etc. Also which Sams Phot Facts volume is this unit in? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks 73’s KB2-DCV.
Did any of the Citizens Band Radio Transceivers have Tayloe Balanced Quadrature Sampling Emitter/Balanced Quadrature Sampling Detector circuits for LSB/USB as well as frequency up/down conversion to 455khz I.E. ((LO+455)*4) to drive the Johnson Counter based on the 74AC74 to drive the QSD which will output 455khz to a RF phasing combiner to be sent to the FM/AM demodulator on receive and sending either a FM/AM signal to a RF phasing network that would drive the QSE that converts the 455khz up to the wanted transmit frequency.
just saw one of these for sale about 50 miles from me for 100 dollars and i want a sideband,, so it is really a Uniden like a Grant? i am getting back into CB i have a power supply and another old TRC but was looking for sideband,, good deal?? suppose to work i just texted him
hey Mike, I'm having a heck of a time with my NOS 858 washington. Got it re-capped and found a bad tuning can in the IF circuit, but i still have a weakish receive (hears about 5uV) and no SSB modulation. I feel like these two problems are related because of how this chassis works, but the horizontal on my scope just went out and im having some trouble shooting it so to speak. have you seen this particular problem before?
Hi Mike form Canada, love your video BTW, I have a Realistic TRC-458 same board as the one in the video at 8:05 you mention the two missing parts for the channel rejection , it appear that it was install on mine and that it's missing the tantalum capacitor that you advise to replace. I can see on the other side of the board that some "tech" work there, i'll appreciate any advice. Finally I dont know in which region in the US your chop is but I'm really thinking of sending my TRC-458 to you if I cannot do the job my self, only one tech throughout the province of Quebec. My TRC-458 is in pristine condition like the TRC-457 you did a video on and I would like to restore it (or you) to it's original condition and done the service bulletin if some exist, again thanks for your videos I learn a lot. 7-3
Hey, a fellow is offering to sell me a trc-449 for $110 shipped. It has no power cord- he says it's in good shape and never been modded He sent pictures the exterior looks good but I don't know this guy Any suggestions? .
I wish you were still making videos and repairing radios
30 seconds in before the fucking giggle.
Hey Mike, i have watched almost all of your videos. BTW, you sound like Captain Pierce from M.A.S.H same voice, i swear.... :)

Hi Mike, I really enjoy the videos you make. Thank you for sharing your radio knowledge with us. Cheers from Canada, KA970
No doubt. One of the best Uniden chassis built. I think I've owned every version of this chassis. I have nothing really bad to say about them.
Are you still repairing radios? If you are, how much for the tune up, or replacing the parts you recommended? Thanks Rob
I think that skip was me
Glue man 😂😂😂😂

SIngle or dual conversion? How does this copare to a 148 GTl?

Same chassis as the 138xlr.

Where do you get the volume on/off controls from ? I seem to have trouble finding suitable ones.

I think the last batch I got came from R&R Communications.
Is this the same board as the President Adams?

I don't like the relay clicking noise but the audio is good
Resistor 153 is getting really hot on mine and the transistor at IC6 in the allignment chain is it possible it’s bad since I can’t get it aligned???
Hi i have one of this and he is not txing maybe the problem is that capacitor! what is the value of that capacitor please?
That capacitor is C179 and it is a 2.2uF / 25V tantalum. Schematic for reference: mmrmedia.xs4all.nl/realistic/trc449-sch.jpg

I have the same radio.how much would the same thing cost but remove channel kit.i want it to be the best legal radio i can have out of it.
rs-trc-448 where can I get a channel led ? it is part led4 dual
Just cross reference the part number on the display to a currently made one. All the big electronics distributors sell 7 segment LED displays.
there isnt a number on it that I can see. the schematic said SGN--N72
