    RRR was ineligible because the Oscars require each country to submit a single movie for consideration, and India’s committee didn’t realize what they had on their hands so they submitted a different movie
    EDIT: Sorry, I should clarify: it wasn’t eligible for International feature. It WAS eligible for Best Picture and unfortunately just didn’t get in

    • @jbw612
      @jbw612 Рік тому +11

      @@antonyblalock2696 Not quite the same, but very similar, yeah. In that case, Disney didn't HAVE to limit it to 1 song, but they chose to only campaign for 1, because they figured it gave them a better chance of getting in. And by the time Bruno blew up it was too late to switch, because the Oscar shortlists had already come out. But yeah it's effectively the same concept, in the sense that they didn't know they had a hit on their hands until it was too late.

    This is one of the greatest Best Picture lineups in recent years because it covers every point in the spectrum from 2-billion dollar blockbusters to tiny indie arthouse darlings, from AVATAR and TOP GUN to WOMEN TALKING and TRIANGLE OF SADNESS. Should result in better viewership and interest because the Oscars are making an effort to be relevant and redemptive by covering all kinds of films of different scales and genres throughout the year.
    Snubbing DECISION TO LEAVE and NOPE everywhere, snubbing TOP GUN 2 in Cinematography but giving it Screenplay, snubbing GDT's PINOCCHIO in Score & Song, snubbing AVATAR in Cinematography after the first one won that award, snubbing Paul Dano for Hirsch in FABELMANS... lots of wild inexcusable ones just like snubbing Villeneuve for Directing last year.
    But also plenty of very deserved surprises and guarantees with love for EEAAO, RRR, ALL QUIET, THE BATMAN, TAR, BANSHEES, and FABELMANS.
    There was no way THE MENU was getting in here because the Oscars aren’t fans of horror/thrillers, but if I had my way, Ralph Fiennes would be winning, the Score would definitely win, and the Screenplay would be nominated for sure.

They should nominate the best films for each category no matter their budget or popularity among a general public that don’t care much for the art of film. This year was just lucky that some of the most popular films of the year are worthy

It made $150MM in the global box office making it the tenth highest grossing film in the world last year. There was really no other competition out of Indian cinema last year, other than maybe Pusha/KGF which both have much worse effects & story direction.

    In regards to Maverick and VFX, I believe that while yes, the actors did legitimately fly in the backseats of fighter jets and yes, a lot of the aerial shots were legit, whenever you see other jets from the cockpit, it’s VFX. I’m sure quite a few aerial shots with multiple jets were also composited too. I’d imagine the Navy didn’t want to risk any sort of accident in production, ESPECIALLY while the actors were in the jets.
    Hint: If you compare the first trailer to final trailer, a few of the shots are the same but with updated VFX, whether it be an extra jet in the shot or added terrain. (Also, the final showdown between the F/14 and the SU57s had to have employed a bit of visual effects, since neither of those jets would be able to be used for filming)
    Yes, I’m a nerd.

      That's why it didn't get a Cinematography nom? But srsly, in all honesty: Then why did the first Avatar get the award? I thought this award was always about what great pictures you can achieve while using the camera in the most advanced and creative way? Srsly, they snubbed the front-runner category just to annoy people who did an incredible amount of work, you can't tell me otherwise. Part of the academy is full of evil people.

      @@rafearcher7882 Cinematography is a tricky subject, since I see it as a display of everything on the screen, VFX included. That’s just how I interpret it and how I imagine some academy members see it. In the case of Avatar, VFX is flawless and everyone knows it, but it’s also the compositing of the image that stands out. Every frame knows where to draw your eye and achieves it perfectly. In my opinion that’s great cinematography, but I completely understand if others don’t see it that way.
      However I do not disagree with you on Maverick’s cinematography snub. Same should be said for the Batman. The academy this year didn’t really get a grasp on most films in my opinion, and it’s a lot worse than usual. Like seriously, Nope not getting a SINGLE mention? Very disappointed this year.

      @@rafearcher7882 I’m not saying definitively. Just saying that’s how I feel about it. Didn’t Snyder Cut win something once? Or was it something else. Also Black Panther 1 (for whatever reason) was nominated for Best Picture a few years back. Frankly tho, and imma be honest, superhero movies really aren’t the pinnacle of cinema. You’ll have something amazing like The Batman, Spider-Man 2, Spider-Verse, Infinity War, Logan, or The Dark Knight, but most of the time you’re getting something like Ant-Man - Black Panther - Shang Chi - Aquaman etc. levels of a movie, which aren’t bad movies but simply don’t compare to the artistry of other films like RRR, Everything Everywhere, Banshees, etc.
      Ofc you’re welcome to think otherwise. I think other aspects do deserve at least some form of recognition such as the score…
