A book that's larger on the inside than the outside.
Great vlog. You experienced this as I did. Alone late at night. It really maximizes the experience.
Like any classic work of art, I think Danielewski created something that can't be reduced to a single genre or theme. It's not a horror story, or a thriller, love story, fantasy/sci-fi, etc. It explores many aspects of human experience. Mental trauma and illness, physical trauma, love and sex, survival and death. The "House of Leaves" poem in the appendices sums it up for me. The abstract and uncontrollable spiralling of human thought. If anything, I feel like Danielewski is giving us empathy in writing for our individual experiences with everything painful in life.
    "Little solace comes
    to those who grieve
    when thoughts keep drifting
    as walls keep shifting
and this great blue world of ours
    seems a house of leaves
    moments before the wind."

This book is such a beautiful little project to experience. I feel like ten people could get ten completely different things out of it.
