My son and I recently discovered your channel. He doesn't have a lot of male reader influences so we've been watching some of the guys on youtube. He's becoming a huge fan of yours. The library has a summer reading program and he's almost put in 12 hours already which is huge for him (ADHD makes focusing hard). He wants to one day do a 24 hour readathon. We love your channel, thank you so much for this content. It's really having a big impact on our family.
The Name of the Rose is a multi-level book. The mystery is the easy part, which anyone can understand. The book is also about logic, about the meaning of things, about values, about choosing to see the ugly or the beautiful, about languages, about learning, about creating and destroying, and it's Adso's journey to maturity with William as a mentor. If you're trying to pay attention to everything at once, it can be overwhelming and exhausting. That's why I'd recommend rereading it once some time has passed and you should be able to see its complexity. If now is not the right time for you, it's ok. But don't give up on it. There's a movie adaptation, with Sean Connery as William. Of course William does not look like that in the book. 😅 The movie fails to render the most important aspects of the novel, yet I must say I enjoyed watching it.
hello! i just stumbled onto your channel and i love giving recommendations of things for others. heres some books i think youd like based off your top 10 books list and this video: Don't Look Now by Daphne du Maurier (55 page short story) 11/22/63 by Stephen King The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain The Sheltering Sky by Paul Bowles
You’ll probably finish your first King book before he finishes 11/22/63. Pretty sure I’ve seen like 6 videos dedicated to reading it and I don’t think he’s done yet. Lol
You’ve convinced me. Just downloaded Billy Summers. I’ve read many other King books, but not this one. If Ian gives it a 5 star rating, it will be worth it! Thanks for the recommendation and congratulations on your one year anniversary on UA-cam. 🎉
Recent subscriber and you have already influenced me to start a Stephen King book. Just started The Institute yesterday and I’m nervous but excited (I mostly read romance and fantasy so it’s definitely out of my comfort zone).
Nice video, Ian! I do have a question regarding Stephan King, though. I’ve never read any of his books or watched any of his movies, either. I really would like to, but I don’t know where to start. Do you have any recommendations?
Okay I am fan of Stephen King but Iʼm a new romance reader, maybe itʼs time to check out Emily Henry!! I would love to know your thoughts on ʼSalemʼs Lot, if/when you read it - I started reading it but had to put it down because some of the content was jus too icky for me (same reason Iʼm reluctant to read It). Love your videos, thank you for being you!!
Do you have a Stephen King book you recommend for first time SK readers? His writing sounds awesome, but some of his books are big beasts and sound gruesome.
Bro please eventually get into Brandon Sanderson! I know you’re gonna love him! Also I saw in one of your recent videos that you have a liberty university sticker on your computer! Did you go there? That’s where I went to school and love to see other flames doing their thing!
Yessssss you are one of my favorite Booktubers for real ❤❤❤❤your content is always soooo much fun. Made my week. You and your wife Rock ! Your gonna make me go through my TBR oh lawwwwd ! 😂😂😂
I strongly disliked Beach Read and it has turned off trying any of her other books. I also had no idea there was a alternative ending, I got the UK version, I gotta go google that
You should give the movie adaptation of "The Name of the Rose" a chance. It's a really entertaining thriller starring Sean Connery as Bro Bill 🙂, Christian Slater, Ron Perlman, and F. Murray Abraham.
I read "Beach Read" and I did not like it at all. It was a struggle to read because the characters can't decide if they want to be in a relationship or just be bantering friends. "Beach Read" is not a romance novel, it seemed to be about grief or finding one's identity or budding friendship, it's just one of those overhyped books with no direction at all.
After watching some of your videos I was absolutely shocked to find that you have 23k subs. I genuinely expected you to have at least a million with the quality of your content 👏👏
I’ve had Billy Summers since Christmas, but I’m so intimidated by it and I don’t know why. But you and Ash both love it, so I’m more motivated to grab it!
Hey Ian, I was wondering if you'd ever read the left behind series. There are 16 thriller books, it's how society navigates after the rapture and the surviving people are dealing with basically the book of Revelations on earth
Happy Anniversary! You deserve great things. Your enthusiasm for and love of books shines through. I just read Billy Summers, my 1st Steven King book, because of you and i loved it!!!
Thank YOU Ian! Both you and Ashlynn have rekindled my love for reading. Billy Summers is in my possession because of Ashlynn's review during her video on reading your TBR before you and this one, it convinced me to grab it! That, and I also grabbed Dark Matter and Piranesi. I can't wait to read them all! Love your channel so much!
If you like prose I definitely recommend Split Tooth by Tanya Taqag. Beautiful prose. But I also recommend the audiobook bc she reads it herself and it is an EXPERIENCE. Sorry, I just finished a few days ago and my mind is still blown.
Always a fun day when you post a video. I am hoping to read a Stephen King novel in October since I already put Fairy Tale by Stephen King on 25 books to read in 2025. Happy reading!
😂😂😂 I was loving your reactions but I kept thinking, ‘I can’t wait for him to get to the monologue’ cuz it’s gonna get brutal. And you did not disappoint. 😂😂😂
Will I ever try a 24 hour reading challenge? Probably not. But I will always enjoy watching booktube attempt it. I like it that you take care of yourself during the challenge, and I think that's why I haven't tried it yet. I love my sleep 😀 I think I've only read one book by Stephen King: the Green Mile. Your love for his work is certainly something, and I hope to read his books one day. Also, congratulations on the milestone! I've been watching your content for a few weeks now, and I've enjoyed them all.
If you like lyrical prose you MUST try Guy Gavriel Kay. I’d recommend lions of Al Rassan as a starting point, or Under Heaven if you want a more eastern setting
Well I feel called out with in the first 60 seconds of the video 😂Also I hope that 17:57 is a foreshadowing that someday we will get to read a story from you! 💪
I read the name of the rose ages ago and I thought it was really good. I hope you can finish it some day because at the end everything makes sense, if I remember correctly
I 100% wish I would’ve found your channel a year ago to have been on this journey with you. But your videos are awesome. Also I just recently read Billy summers as well (I know you had like my update on good reads a couple of times) but yes it is so freakin good! You and Ash’s videos definitely motivate me to read greatly!
23,000 followers! That’s amazing. You definitely deserve all the love and you and Ashlynn are just so adorable. I hope this next year brings more great things for you!
Billie Summers ending made me cry. If you don't want to finish in the name of the rose then watch the film with Sean Connery as the investigative monk and Christian Slater as his young apprentice. Congrats on it being a year 😊
"One: Because I'm a masochist . . . Two: You're all sadists." 😂 Always love your videos - great books, great humor, and great voices. Big fan of both you and Ashlynn. Thank you for the time and effort you put into your content to please all us sadists.
Just finished reading Fairy Tale by Stephen King, and it's absolutely amazing! 🌟 King blends dark fantasy with classic fairy tale vibes perfectly. The world-building is top-notch, and the characters are so well-developed. I couldn't put it down! 😍 If you love gripping, imaginative stories with a mix of wonder and dread, this is a must-read. King's storytelling is on another level. 📚✨ Highly recommend!
Hi Ian, I’ve been watching your videos for a while now and I love them. You’re a lot of fun to watch and your 24 hour readathons are crazy. I’m looking forward to a new video from you. Happy reading! -Maria
I started reading the physical version of The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco. I made it to the Second, but had to stop because the print was so small. I was actually enjoying because I love mysteries, so when I get it again I will get the Kindle version from the library.
Ian, first off...killer beard! Second, you are freaking AWESOME! Love your channel and all your content! Congrats on one year and all of the success, you deserve it!
If you enjoy the idea of historical mysteries you might enjoy the Cadfael Chronicles by Ellis Peters. They are about a mystery solving monk named Cadfael set in the 1100s. There are a stack, but I have only read about five of them. Great video, and congrats on one year in. 🎉
I so understand what you mean about King making you a "faster" reader. lol. Loved Billy Summer. I agree about the ending. I almost DNF'd Name of the Rose but I pushed through it because a friend I really admire rec'd it and I was like okay I NEED to get this done to give them my opinion. I might venture into romance for Emily Henry, but I think I give romance maybe 2% of my reading life.
TRACK MEETS did you run? what was your event??? I was a short hurdler all the way through college and now I just run mileage on road and trails 💖 I will never not take an opportunity to talk about track and running lmao
Dude! So glad you finally got around to Billy Summers! My first and definitely one of my favorite Stephen King books. My heart is so happy that you AND Ashlynn loved it :)
I don’t know if you’ve read Hyperion by Dan Simmons, but if you love lyrical prose and sci-fi, horror then you’ll love it and it’s one of my favorites and I’d love to see you read it lol
As you talking about the guy face down in a vat of blood, I got a weird thought. When it comes to liquids, when does drowning becoming suffocation? Like could have drowned in a vat of oil or Jello?
I have been waiting to see your review of Billy Summers. My first King was 11/22/63 which I really enjoyed. Then I read Elevation and that was just ok for me. I do have The Institute and now I want to get Billy Summers. King is my brother’s absolute fave author and my mom has read him as well. You also got me thinking about The Stand. I might just have to start one of those soon.😁 Thanks for another great video and congrats on one year!!🎉. You and Ashlyn are so personable and fun to watch. LOVED rock paper scissors video!!

This made my heart happy. Makes me miss being a young reader with a lifetime of books in front of me. 😊

I was just watching your last 24 hour challenge this morning. You and Ashlynn’s videos bring me so much comfort!
So excited for a brand new video since finding you!
You should do a video of just reading new Stephen King books

I cant wait to pick up Billy Summers. #stephenkingfanforlife
What Stephen King would recommend for a first time reader
You should give the movie adaptation of "The Name of the Rose" a chance. It's a really entertaining thriller starring Sean Connery as Bro Bill 🙂, Christian Slater, Ron Perlman, and F. Murray Abraham.
“I just want them to stop talking and solve the dang mystery” 😂

The movie version of Name of the Rose is a bit more digestible than the book (1986). Awesome performance from Ron Perlman...
Good video! Can't wait to start reading book lover or happy place by EH. As for Stephen King, what is your favorite book by him?
I just finished reading lovely war. Favorite book of the year. I sobbed so many times throughout the book, it was everything i imagined and more.
