The Holstee Manifesto is a call to action to live a life full of intention, creativity, passion, and community.
The LifeCycle Film came about as a desire to bring the energy and passion behind the Manifesto to life through something we love--biking. As we seek to live mindful lifestyles that leave a positive impact on the people and world around us, biking has become a passion that is much more than a transportation alternative. It is a way of fully experiencing the city we love and all of its details.
This Film is a celebration. It is a celebration of gatherings, of diversity, of life, and of the beauty of shared experience. We hope you enjoy.

@justbeelieve I'm torn. I love the inspiration this video offers, but I also agree in some regards with you- that this kind of message is for spoiled, rich westerners. However, I believe that people from all classes/experiences/parts of the world search for & find meaning in similar places- through love, family, etc. My question to you, as someone who strongly believes in their perspective, is what do you suggest as a message to live by? If this video doesn't capture it, what's your manifesto?

While I appreciate the message of this video, a lot of these "inspirational suggestions" depend highly on both being in a stable and flexible financial situation and not being quietly discriminated against.

It’s hard not to see through the quick little dopamine hits that these types of things go for, but at least it’s positive intention. Positive intention is good.

    • @jimschneider2475

ALL of these inspiration messages depend on what you want to create in your life and what you are LOOKING for. Challenging finances and quiet discrimination suck, but are not the end of the story unless you want them to be. WHERE can you CREATE and FIND joy? Focus on what you want, not what you don't want. You may still get somethings you don't want, but you will certainly discover MUCH more of what you do want.

This is your life. Do what you love, and do it often. If you don't like something, change it. If you don't like your job, quit. If you don't have enough time, stop watching TV. If you are looking for the love of your life, stop; they will be waiting for you when you start doing things you love. Stop over analyzing, life is simple. All emotions are beautiful. When you eat, appreciate every last bite. Open your mind, arms, and heart to new things and people, we are united in our differences. Ask the next person you see what their passion is, and share your inspiring dream with them. Travel often; getting lost will help you find yourself. Some opportunities only come once; seize them. Life is about the people you meet and the things you create with them, so go out and start creating. Live your dream, and share your passion. Life is short.

I caught this video because it was about bikes, a fierce passion of mine; I kept it because it's timelessly simple and REAL. We're taught, many of us, that the daily grind of our parents is what life is; I fought that from childhood, NOT wanting to be like my mother (who demanded JUST that from me).
She died with an excess of money, which she split between her three sons; I used my share to enhance the lives of the extended family I STILL cherish. We likely never will have that excess; but every day, I have something she never had -- an abundance of unconditional love.
Life is about passion, and short of harm to self or others, NO pursuit of passion is wrong.

@stephenericwalsh I concur. After shooting the icecream scene I made the same observation. The ice cream was not the original "food" we had in mind, it had rained and the other venders had all packed up. I feel that the US flag on the ice cream tempers the message; that we have amazing freedom and opportunity here and we should be grateful for it. In the last century, the world was sold the idea that owning a car and house as the American dream. I hoped to inspire a new dream with this vid.

You are absolutely right, the message of this film is an oversimplification for the majority of the people on this planet.
However, for us rich westerners this film should remind us of just that: the fact that we can buy ice cream and don't have to struggle to survive.
We do have the opportunity to live our dream but all to often fail to do so.

@EdvinLaura The only thing that annoyed me in this video is that it's is so much one-sided and egoistical. It is clear that it was made by wealthy people who probably have no real problems in their life (famine etc). It talks about travelling and quiting your job, and takes for granted that you can afford such things.
Nor does the manifesto say anything about helping others in their pain, only talks about "enjoy life, do what you like". How seflish to think only like that.

    • @capricornmagic63

Sure, this video is aimed at " more developed societies"; the abject poor don't have the internet.
Would I change THAT if I could? Yes. But that would take a provable god to accomplish, since all the fakes are huge reasons for things being the way they are.
This video embraces the idea of self-determination. I cannot just quit my job, either. So what? The video is a celebration. Don't like it? Leave.

It says to do what you love and do it often. It says if you don't like something, change it (basically learn to like what you hate). Why? What's the point in trying to like something you don't like? That's more a waste of time than watching TV when I love to watch TV.
    "Life is simple"
It is not. Only if you are born into existing connections into today's zombie society that excludes individuals and prefers mindless followers.
Then, the end in short: "Life is about other people". Wait, what?

@Cassawina I do agree with some points in the video-things like passion and love. However, all i'm saying is, that people of this kind(the ones with financial freedom and good opportunities),be thankful for what they have first, and realize that not everybody is given opportunities/basic needs they have. Not to force them to help or have pity to those who don't, but in hopes that they are human enough to understand that the world needs them, whether it be to fight corruption, donate, inspire.

@TheCrazyMan0 People who see that surrounding circumstances don't allow them to do what the film implies, it's just out of their hands, they can't simply quit their jobs because they don't like them or simply meet new people, they can't even afford the ticket to travel, I think this video is far too optimistic not realistic video that its message will make better lives for a small proportion of world's people.

  • @Howdydoodie

I love the message but this video is a fricking ad for a company trying to project a certain image to cater to a certain crowd. IT IS NOT A PSA ANNOUNCEMENT. This video is meant to inspire action regardless of your economic status. It doesn't necessarily mean eat ice cream and ride a bike. Then again complacency and making excuses is the opposite point of the video and is the easier option.

Imagine if all the immigrants that made AMERICA what it is today, would have quit if they didn´t like their jobs. All the hard working Asians, all the peddlers that eventually became business owners, all the Germans, Italians, British people, etc. Good message to feel good, but when you put it against reality..... Life is a struggle, we have to embrace the struggle, and when we have sufficient funds to do what we love, we go for it. We are not entitled to anything in this life, we have to earn it.

I'm amused by the bitterness and sarcasm here. "Quit your job? Yeah right! blah blah blah" The point here, I'm thinking is to live your life with passion, find the job that suits you. Maybe it really is digging the ditch and not asking if you'd like fries with that or maybe it's building things or teaching or creating or following orders or whatever it is. Follow your passion. It's not a political message. Follow your passion. Appreciate the very short moments we have on earth. Share. Be Kind.

I like the video and I think what it says is true for a subset of the Western world where we have the luxury of making these choices. Sadly, I don't think it applies to the majority of people who work to barely survive. Watch people riding around on bicycles eating ice cream talking about pursuing their creative dream and then think about someone with no education, access to clean water and who contracted AIDS during birth and it all seems a bit tragic. Be thankful for how lucky we are.
