Blue Jay Fledgling - what to do when you find one?

- Summer is when young birds fledge out of their nests and start to venture on their own. Watch this young Blue Jay Fledgling up close as it hops around in the branches and learn what you should do if you stumble on a fledgling bird in your local park or neighborhood.

One found me this morning, he freaked out and jumped in pool. I scooped him out, left him behind the pool on the mesh scoop. His parents were watching the whole time. He was gone when I of It home tonight. Such a cutie, feel blessed to be able to get that close to him, and save him from drowning.
I found one,apparently abandoned and fed him catfood ,and water through a syringe. Leaving him alone wasn't an option for me, and now ,months later hes grown up and less dependant. I leave a bowl of water and dried crickets or mealworms for him on my porch. He still stops buy and lands on my shoulders etc,grabs his food then flies off to parts unknown. I recommend at least trying to help him survive without relying on his parents to rescue him. 🐦
I found a blue Jay fletching today it was cool to see the mama come back and feed him. He was so adorable.
Made sure to keep my distance
I found a sub adult. Watched him for 10 days on the ground. Parents and others fed him. He got weak, broken leg and hawks and cats were a big threat. I took him to the wildlife care center in Fort Lauderdale today. He has a fighting chance now. Such beautiful birds.
Similar experience here. Found one a few hours ago. Looked like it fell out of a tree and was sitting on its side in the road with a bleeding leg. I helped it into a bush and only now came back to find that it was back in the road after the sprinklers turned on and this time its eye is bleeding. I plan on taking it to a rehab centre in Coral Springs in the morning
Thank you for this advice! A fledgling blue jay is outside my office hopping along the ground, with a parent vocally flittering around it. I'm happy to learn this is part of the process and baby isn't in trouble! Thank you for saving me a lot of worry! 🙏🐦
Found one and the parents are helping it. It tough to not help it ! Hopefully it’ll be ok
My brother cuts timber and found three fledglings about a month ago in the hollow of a tree he took down, the area was being logged out so he brought them to us, two of the three have already been released two weeks ago and we still see them around our neighborhood, but the third keeps coming back to our house and sits on our patio and screams until someone comes out

I have a baby blue jay in my back yard and he is sheltering beside the shed and behind a tree trunk and his mum and dad have been by
I have two Blue Jays I saved from a storm on the ground, there about 5 weeks and they are ready to let go, they stay in the tree hrs and get hungry and come down for me to hand feed and give water I'm exhausted but they are a joy I feel blessed that I saved them I'm hoping they will stay around here in Wichita Kansas the birds are sweet.

just found a baby blue jay. i think its just left the nest but i havent seen any blue jays around lately. its very responsive when i talk which is cute, so put it in a box under the tree and am gonna keep an eye on it but thats all. My cat spotted it through the window, thought it was a baby woodpecker, the big one with the red head.

Found a fledgling blue Jay. My neighbor has at least 10 cats outside so I put it on my roof away from the cats. I'm hoping I did the right thing.
I found a baby blue jay out front don’t see parents anywhere and there’s 5 neighborhood cats always out. I put it outback with some almonds and water 🤷🏻♂️ idk what to do
This right now here in Texas. Little guy is in the shade hidden in ivy. Parent is involved. It’s 106° so glad it’s in shade of my entryway while sun sets. Saw parent down with it. Stressful. Am leaving it w it’s family!!
@@wk8000 I know how you feel. My little guy needed help the next morning. I put a big dead branch in the I’ve he was in & he hopped out. 7:30am!! Right outside my bedroom. He hopped in bushes & his parents where with him all day. It’s stressful for us humans!!
Ivy. He was in a big area bordered by bricks.
@@wk8000 my little guy got really quiet & blended in w the bushes/ivy at night. That might be what keeps them safe. Sunrise he was a chatterbox! Outside my bedroom window. Parents immediately there. Your guy might be just fine. I read it takes 5 days of hopping around bf they fly.

Found 4 earlier in my backyard around 4pm but when I checked on them in the evening their is now only one and the parents aren't anywhere to be found
We have two fledglings in our backyard right now. Our dogs are not getting yard time until the bird flies away. We are staying away and letting nature take its course.

It's been 2 days, It's terrible because the cats injured this baby bj. It's not that bad but I saw blood between its wings on its shoulder.
The parents stay around and as soon as they see a cat, they start hollering so I can go out and chase the cats away, but I got outside a little late today and the poor thing got injured. 😢
Thanks again for the info. I wanted to put it up on the tree or feed it etc, but I guess I'll leave it alone and stand a guard.
I have 3 babies getting ready to fledge… any day now.. I watch hem out my bedroom window…
one ending up in my front yard by my pourch cat . mom and dad were ina freenxy. i took him acoss the way were cat didn't see hope mom and dad find him next to bush
Does anyone know if the bird in this video able to fly at all yet? I have one with no tail that looks just like this in my driveway, it's parents are aware of it there.
My mom was screaming at me to get my dog (toy poodle) bc she thought it was attacking the fledgling. She was just licking the little guy but still was super scary. My mom wants to bring it inside but since it doesn't appear injured (I don't like handling birds so Im going off surface level) Im trying to convince her and my dog to leave it alone
I found one in my backyard and my cats attacked it
:( luckily saved it from getting hurt and put it in the tree it fell from. Its been sitting there and sleeping on a branch for hours but i havnt seen the mom come back since the attack. Im really upset that I didnt leave it on the ground bc I dont think the mom knows where it is.
My heart hurts.
Found a live one fell out of his nest and ontop of the car. He was alive at first but the fall must of killed him.
I tried to rub him warmly to bring him back to life but couldn't. 😢
Ok so I found out the hard way! A baby bird the size of a sparrow came into my open door where I was working in my office. Door open no screen just to get morning fresh air. It seemed to be unable to fly and I didnt relize it was a fledgling- or a Blue Jay. It looked black and white no blue on it.
So I tried to encourage it out without touching it. It hopped around and down the steps. I noted the same stray cat in my yard so I figured to chase the stray back... In the meantime not looking above 2 large birds began circling above me... I tried to just walk away and then suddenly one dived at me and I felt a hard hit on the very top of my head!!! Hey Im not doing anything!!! Go for the cat! Nope they both began to fly aggresively at me! Ive never experienced this! Ive feed wild birds, chipmunks, the squirrels daily corn, peanuts, sunflower black seed and suet bars. I have 13 hummingbird feeders and never been attacked.
Its been hours and m😢 head still hurts! Holy crude! I just took something for pain and am so frustrated I think Im done with feeding!!!
Ive spent allot of $ and time caring for them and yes I get it they were protecting a young one.. But ouch!
So I went out again wity an umbrella and saw no sign of the little one! Im worried the cat came back...If its not in the grass and it can only hop and get about 2 feet off the ground ever couple of hops, where could it have gone? Where are the bombers too?
My wife found a fledgling underneath our car I told her to leave it be but she insisted on putting him in a box I am going to release him later today when she is gone any advice is greatly appreciated
Well I found one in the middle of my street fronting my house. I couldn’t just leave it in the middle of the street.
I found one but on the city sidewalk almost got ran over by multiple cars. Idk what to do with it. But I refuse to let it get run over or eaten by a cat

@@wk8000 hi yes it’s very weird how they do this. Mine I would help him up into a bush and kept and eye on him for a few days and when he would jump down I put him back. Then the next day I didn’t see him and the parents aren’t around anymore. So I am hopeful he finally flew away🙏🏻.
