No one has came to close to having as many great drummers in one band over time as the volta imo. I will be watching and listening to the volta when Im old and my kids are asking what the heck it is.
It’s always amazed me how they were able to go through drummers like crazy but seemed to always just find the most ridiculous guys. Theodore, Elitch, Pridgen, sheesh!
Ughhh I come back to this year after year. He never loses control... its mesmerizing. Also that sun glare cutting a line through the footage that just slowly fades away... this is some high end artsy shit in 2022.
Woah! that’s a cool fun fact, I thought to myself I wonder if Bill would think this drummer was dope since I listen to his podcast and he is pretty cool with music
One of THE best drum performances ever. The passion and intensity alone has me mesmerised then there is the sound of the kit and how easy Dave makes it all look. Unbelievable 🥁👍
I distinctly remember seeing members from Muse, Mastodon & Karnivool watching side of stage both days in Sydney while i was in the crowd! So happy to have found this.

This video broke any walls I had of rock stars having job. The way Dave works those drums is incredible and inspirational, especially in light of the mars volta politics, and every artist being an individual being allowed to express their own form of art. Much love Dave Elitch.
dude! crisp clean fills, snare is tite, and highhat work feels like a pressed tailored suit. fuk yes, i feel you were excited to play. i feel these guys were a sort of hallmark to test your skills and the type of things you want to play. your passion shines man, antemasque rules too.
I love this footage not only because shows Dave's skills, but because shows how real musicians interact between each other. One of the last real bands. Long Live Real Music.
Always see videos like these from all around the world wishing I could have witnessed that set, well for once I can safely say I was there to see this!
Thankyou very much for posting this video. I was local stage hand at the Adelaide BDO. Remember watching you warming up before the show and thinking - this is going to be awesome. The show was beyond any expectations. Thankyou for allowing me to kind of re-live the moment. It really is a shame you didnt record with TMV. but anyway...very glad I got to see you play with one of my favourite bands & very glad you posted this video. Thanks again. Cheers from South Australia.
51:33 - that whole section though to the end of the video - just keeps getting better. I love how he's practically jumping out his seat by the end of it!
Wow, I have a plethora of practicing to do. Awesome job, Dave. You always give your all behind the kit, and do a darn good job doing it to. Big inspiration.
27:28 after he loses his crash haha i dont think ive ever seen a drummer go harder then dave... fucken nuts !! the amount of raw energy and power he harnesses is just insane, as well as control, even with unorthodox strokes and styles he still keeps in rhythm, these guys are gods.
They are so rad live! I remember watching them when they played with Red Hot Chili Peppers back in Oakland (I can't remember the year 2005/2006?) They were incredible!!!
It was 06 for me. They opened for the Chili Peppers on Halloween night in Cleveland. Barely anyone in the crowd went crazy when they played. Frat kids basically that didnt know what the fuck they were witnessing. Like 7 or 8 bodies on stage going nuts for about an hour. Amazing show!
Awesome Dave....Power and Clean! Another fantastic band that no longer exists ... the problem is that musicians unable resist.... Merry Xmax from Italy.
This drummer is sick. Reminds me of me my best friend who I lost not long ago. It wasn’t enough to just play the part for him, he delivered it with passionate love and sometimes furious power
Dave, you are a huge inspiration for me and countless other drummers! You deserve all the credit and recognition man, you are just BEAST on them skins! All the best always, Henry
Thx Dave, thx!!! This is just gr8!!! Such a pity U didn´t recorded an album with them! You´re one of my fav drummers and TMV is one of my fav bands and this is simply AWESOME!!! GREAT WORK!!!
Jon Theodore's left foot is perhaps the most under appreciated thing about the Mars Volta, it just flows almost all of the time, often with 8th notes. Dave Elitch does a great job here, I saw them with him, sadly the only time I saw them, and he nailed it, the closest thing they had to the great JT. The best musician on the stage that night though was Juan Alderete in my opinion. An absolute beast.

Fun Fact: Dave Elich is Bill Burr's Drum Teacher.
Yo that's sick tbh
Wtf
Woah! that’s a cool fun fact, I thought to myself I wonder if Bill would think this drummer was dope since I listen to his podcast and he is pretty cool with music
Ah, this does not surprise me. LA cats!
Everyone who saw this comment just searched "bill burr drums"
One of THE best drum performances ever.

Unbelievable 🥁👍
Man, that snare is tuned tight! It practically sounds like a marching snare! Great playing Dave
yeah dude! Seems to be a 8 x 14 snaredrum... so awesome!
Maybe. Looks like a 6.5' to me
Aleks Maksimovic That's definitely not an 8". 6.5" or 7" max.
It's a 6.5x14 knurled Steel with die-cast hoops
That's a drummers drummer. Full of energy man, killer playing and killer video.
28:22 you can tell dave is just like "OMFG its done, time to BREATHE" well done sir. My hat is off to you.
I distinctly remember seeing members from Muse, Mastodon & Karnivool watching side of stage both days in Sydney while i was in the crowd! So happy to have found this.
i think his drums owe him money...
i loled
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Haha
Lol
I love the moments where he practically jumps out of his chair.
So sick
Dave Elitch is a great drummer.
It has nothing to do with your comment in my opinion from 3 years ago. I just said that Dave is a great drummer.

I have never heard of this fella before. Wow he is a monster!! The only Volta drummer that comes close to the mighty Theodore.
this is an awesome vid you can learn the whole set from it. Thank you sir
Their best drummer after Theodore. What a beast this dude is!

loving your energy dave.
Dave, man, I was really impressed when I saw you in DOM but really, you kick some serious ass on that kit. I always love hearing your chops.

That kit sounds awesome Dave, love that snare!

Pridgen is a great drummer but always played way to far in front of the beat live. If he could have dialed it back just a notch, man.
Beautiful.
Thanks to whoever positioned the camera with his right foot in shot, you know what we want to see (was it the drum tech? Himself?)
Absolute beast of a player
Good Lord he's an absolute BEAST!!!
Goosebumps.
