Protect and Preserve the Rust and Patina on your Hot Rod - How To
Вставка

- With the color matching basically done on the C10, I figured it would be a good time to protect the original paint/patina on the truck. I've used boiled linseed oil on all my projects for years! It's cheap and easy to apply. It's not permanent and does need re-applied a few times a year. The oil gives the paint a dull shine without buffing or polishing. I love how it brings out all the under tones of the original paint. Any one can do this process in a few hours and it will completely change the look of the car and keep the rust/patina safe!
It seems funny to make the new panels look old and beat up but it's the look/style I like.

I don`t care what anybody says you did a great job on that door !! Without spending a ton it made the truck look 100% . Well done !
I'm glad you painted that door it really makes truck look good
Thanks
yeah im glad i did it
That's probably the most love the finish on that pickup has seen since it left the dealership.
Man, if only our politicians listened to us like Dan does 🤔
haha

Really enjoy your channel...starting to be one of my favorite channels..your buddy from halfass garage is a wizard when it comes to fab work and all around automotive knowledge
I feel the same way. Mind you, I live in Manitoba also and am a "paper" gearhead - nice to see a guy with this talent and so down to earth.
Alright that's it, I'm going to linseed oil my 64 Chevelle rust bucket. Looks good on your truck. I like the way you did that green, matches up good enough from were I'm setting.
haha no guarantees
I've seen a lot of people doing it. Thought it couldn't hurt to slow down the rust. Can't hurt the look. LMAO
I’m glad you painted the door ...it does make the old girl look better .
thanks man!
Dont worry about negative comments, those folks couldn't do half what you have done. Looks great pal
That really changed the look. It's looking good. Another great video 👍👍🇨🇱
Truck has really turned pretty cool. Looks better with door matched for sure. Great work. You sure get a lot done.
Thanks 👍
Nice truck man always loved old c 10's my favorite year 71 love the grills on them real cool nice work
I love it. You started with a piece of crap and not only saved it cause you enjoy doing that but turned it into a fun ride with real asset value. Way to many guys get all fired up over something that ends up on Craigslist for the best offer. But your efforts are genuinely interesting and valuable, very impressive well done
oya, i always build stuff as if it where my own
The truck turned out great. The BLO was a good choice as well as painting the door.
Nice Dan! Just to add to the consent of the viewers, I prefer the door with some green too! It is a beauty! Be safe and enjoy.
thanks buddy! i dig it too
I’d be proud to drive that truck. Reminds me of my old 68 gmc I had in high school. Great job🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Being stuck inside, this is a refreshing distraction!
bummer! stay safe
Looks awesome Dan, great job enjoy all your videos .4 doors to 2 doors ,long to short boxes ,cookie sheets to trunk lids .
haha its all gotta get done somehow
I actually didnt mind the grey door. It does look amazing now and glad to see the scoop gone. Its not a bad scoop just not for this old shop truck. Great video !
Dare i say it, that paint looks ... minty! 👍 Great work on the fauxtina.
haha thanks buddy
Looks totally great all the way around Dan, just needs a rear view mirror and your on to the T. Great job Dan.
yup its time to take a break from the c10
I never dreamed it would look that good.
Mike
thanks mike!
Looks badass, I'm glad you did the door it looks way better. And when you got done with the oil, that made it a hell of a big difference too.. Looks very very sharp, you did one hell of a job.. Keep those wrenches on turnin and the tires on burnin..
Thanks 👍
I am not a big fan of fake patina, but overall I have to say I really like this truck. Love the old green paint with the primer showing through, and you have done a really good job of making it look uniform and nice. Good work!
thanks buddy!
The driver side door looks really good .You sure did move forward by going backwards .The theme flows together really well.As a kid some people said I had red hair because my brain was rusty. Boy if I knew then what I know now I could have been beautiful. Thanks for the video Dan ,looking forward to the TEE coming home.Spoke to big brother on Saturday , said I can have his '32 but not till it warms up.That car will never ever leave the family and will always be my BIG BROTHER"s car no matter how many years I get to enjoy it!
Truck looks much better all green. Linseed oil really does the trick, too! 👍
Yes it does!
I’m glad you saved the truck. Wasn’t a fan of shortening it. Hate the fact of another LS swap. Glad that it is on the road though and not rotting away. Now about the oil on the truck. If someone is going to paint it they are in for a treat trying to prep the surface. The patina fad crowd is married to the look once they do that unless they take it all down to bare metal. Please don’t take this as hate. I love the channel. Big fan
no worries my friend! i appreciate the views and support
Truck looks great! My DAd had one of these when I was growing up, I learned to drive a clutch in it (3 on the tree). He drove that thing for 20 years, gave it to a friend and I saw it driving around in the area for another 10 years. Great job!
Very cool! they are tough old trucks
Looks cool I hope you get to enjoy it! Need another burnout. Now that you have it sorted out.
That's the plan!
I've used Linseed oil on cricket bats back in the day (I'm Australian) and I've used Linseed oil on guitar necks when doing guitar repairs and it works great. I'm a mechanic of over 30 years and I've never seen anyone put Linseed oil on a vehicle before, but hey... well done, worked a treat. Learn something new every day. ;)
thanks buddy!
The ol C10 is looking pretty darn nice! I'm excited to see you get after the T!!!
You and me both!
Hey Danny , The fotina paint job turned out great !
Looks 1k Times better !!!! Got yourself a fine look in muscle truck !
Excellent job on the door. That little truck turned out to be my favorite build!
Knock the scoop off!
The driver's side turned out great! Blending it definitely hid the colour difference more. Great job!
Triple win looks great !! On to the T
thanks!
what a great looking truck!
I love this truck awesome work
The truck looks great. I wouldn't pay attention to the hater's do what you want to it and make it yours. Mint 👌

Looks awesome man!!! You did an amazing job on that truck! Looking forward to the T!
You and me both! haha
Ya I was one of the commenters that said paint that door . It looks good now I've had several 60s and early 70s Chevy trucks my first vehicle was a 1964 Chevy dually flatbed my dad's old truck he gave it to me when I was 18 years old it was same age as me I was born in 64 it was heavy duty big ole truck I loved it . It had the big straight 6 I think it was a 290 something and a four speed first gear would of pulled down a house . My favorite truck I owned was a 66 GMC fleetside short box I lowered it myself the cheap way heated the coils in front and messed with the leaf springs I loved that truck it was a six cylinder also original paint it was a pretty blue color I once owned a 66 Chevelle in blue too I miss my old Chevy's I owned a blue 70 Nova too I had to build that car I bought it as a roller. I was dumb I sold it too had a 65 Chevy 2 2 door too owe how I miss my old Chevy's
that sounds like a bad ass truck!
Awesome job on the door. It look's good with the Lin seed oil
Thanks 👍
Great to hear,my favourite Muso,Cleveland BLUES, doing his awesome Swampy blues from his Rich Man Poor man album?
Now that is looking good 👍
it really looks great. painting the door was the right thing to do.
I think so too!

Dude , I’m loving this truck! It’s turned out awesome. Nice work!
Awesome! Thank you!
Door looks great with a little paint:-). Thanks for reading the comments. Many UA-camr's ignore the comments or never read.
Thank you thank you thank you. That truck now looks awesome. Exactly how it should look. Well done dude. Looking forward to seeing the t wrecks now. Especially with all the new found room in the garage for all the activities
Great job mate looks complete and ausome , would be a killer daily ride 👌
That looks super good, especially the roof! Nice work man
Thanks a ton!
My thinking is always this ..
If I like it, then it’s great !
Thank you for your information
You worked so hard replacing all that sheet metal now it is practically a new truck... It deserved to have the door painted and hey it looks great!
TURNED OUT GREAT !!! THANKS !
100 percent ab so freakin lutely better with the door green.
Loved the oil trick. That was very cool.
Take that dang hood scoop and power brake on it and do a give away to a subscriber with it. 😄
Thanks for sharing again, Dan.
haha ill find a home for the scoop! thanks for watching
Great work, love that ol truck...
Thanks 👍
Much better, Dan. The linseed oil is a cool tip.
yeah its pretty slick
Truck's looking great Dan.

yeah im kinda liking it.....
Love the look you gave it man. I enjoy your channel. Cant wait to see how the next project turns out.
thanks buddy
looks way better Dan nice Job !! now all you need to install is a Gun rack and put it up for sale..
haha a rack would b sweet
Awesome job with the cleanup and caring for that drivers door!
Thanks 👍
Looks really good with just the one color and patina, nice job!
I think so too!
That ugly damn hood scoop is back again.
I'm with you there. I hope it's there just to get us to comment. Lol
Roger Loesch definitely run it over.. with vast hatred, like it owes him money!!
I've used Penatrol many times. Works great and don't have to reaply. Same sheen as well.
Good to know!
The linseed oil brings it all together and protects the rust from becoming cancer. I would drive that truck if I could buy it. It looks really cool man I love it. The short bed conversion looks awesome, that is what really makes it cool. I saw the "Turning Rust" Channel do the Boiled Linseed oil thing with the Scotch Brite pads thing, pretty cool looking for sure. Turning Rust channel is pretty cool too. Truck is Cool Cool Cool. You could put the hood scoope on just to do something you love and piss everyone off because its your channel. If you can put it on so its reversible with out cutting a hole in the hood that would be a shame the hood is so nice. It really would be a shame to cut a hole in that hood. Forgot the inside of the tailgate.
thanks buddy! it came together pretty good
Love the linseed oil look
Really impressed how the paint came out - good work.
Me and my 13 year old boy are building a 1970 GMC dropping a Cummins in like the Info you're putting out !
nice! sounds like a fun project
Seeing that scoop sitting on the hood is making me nervous.
I'm sure it's there just to get us to comment. LOL
Rusty Iron Projects R.I.P I agree ,he knows it would be a rookie move to have a hood scoop on a vehicle that that serves no purpose other than for “ looks “.
Hope it gets tossed in the next shop clean up video lol
Dick Johnson I’m building a 2 1/2” rise cowl hood for my truck with a stock inline 6 🤣
Lookin' good for someone who cant be bothered with wet sanding. I need a little of that "goodnuff" attitude.
thats my only attitude haha
That looks frikkin AWESOME! GREAT work, Brother!
Thanks a bunch!
Looks so much better. That's going to be a nice truck for someone .. Looking forward to some t videos . Keep up the good work ~
yup theyre coming up
Another video worth watching, S.O.P. for you. That beast is almost gone, way to keep your focus on the vision you started with, low buck, nothing fancy flipper. T time bring on the T party.
yep!
Really like the way the roof rust came out looks great... you know if your into rust ....
the truck looks killer can't wait to see the plans for the t
thanks buddy
That's wild how you do that paint.
I liked to see you make a two door out of a 2000's Crown Victoria that looks as good as your 57.
maybe one day
Yeah, I see what everyone was getting at about the door. It blends in now. The truck looks great now!!!! It all blends together...
thanks buddy
Yep..."I'm happy with that" awesome job.. nice ride and a truck
Thanks 👍
Glad you did the door
You did a great job on completing
thanks!
Going for the "arm out resting on the upper door for years(of use) look...nice.
Burn them damn rags bud. no shop fires!.
you are an artist. just love it
Hey Dan. Nice job. I was thinking about giving my Fargo coats of red, green and white before the final topcoat. My final coat will be flat black. Then when I sand threw, it will look like there have been many paint jobs done to it over the 66 years of its life. Thanks for sharing.👍🍁 I see you still have snow out west. Here in Ontario, we have about 6" of icy snow on the ground.
yah im ready to b done with this weather
@@DDSpeedShop Hey Dan. I was just thinking. There aren't many Canadians that are restoring the good old cars/trucks on UA-cam. Is it because of our shitty weather?
Damn it Dan if I had the funds and a transport to get it to MD it be on its way I love this c10 build looks like an original with some older paint repair blends on it but then you got a trusty Ls in it . Awesome job Dan you are talented buddy
Check out Mikes Mirrors on Facebook he's paraplegic and builds mirrors and door handles for c10 at home awesome stuff
awesome ill check em out. thanks buddy!
Sry it's Mike's Billett Mirror's on fb
Oh and as far as the hood scoop goes good choice on leaving it off this project but if it was me I'd louver it and turn it into a breather for the "T" it will bring some louvers upfront and you get to use the scoop finally lol
old Waylon likes the linseed too, I think.
he knows all the tricks
I LIKE IT ! Time to move the ignition and install a radio
Looks good, Like a survivor truck. Good Job.
Looks great Dan!! Thanks for doing the door and the center caps!! I try and send you some beauty rings for the wheels.....maybe get Brent to make a roll pan in place of a bumper??... you could louver it as another option to practice.....😂🤣
haha louver everything
No hood scoop, I hope
Maybe re-purpose it as a parts bin. lol
I'm thinking it's there just to make sure we comment. Lol
everyone loves the scoop!
@@DDSpeedShop Screw that baby down on the roof, don't follow the herd!
The door looks good Dan!
Now put your logo on both doors and keep it as a shop truck
haha i cant fall in love with it
Have you given much thought to what you'd sell it for?
@@danpoole9327 yeah. Depends if it stays local or not.
Now it looks cool 👌 can't wait for you to get the other toy home
Me neither
Looks badass my friend
Good video the truck looks way better with the dr done,Something about that scoop don't seem to work on anything maybe the coupe.
