Post number three: I survived the night, haha, despite wind gusting over 30mph and some driving rain.
The South Downs aren't very high but we get some gusty winds up here.
The Outsunny Compact tent structure held up well in the wind, and with no breakages, but the silnylon fly stretches a bit when wet, so it was a noisy flappy night.
After me sealing the tent seams, there was little sign of any water coming in, although at 4am I realised the wind was so strong that the rain was blowing horizontally through the SW-facing vent.
I was able to velcro that vent shut from the inside and then it was dry again. - Same as your garden hose test really.
As a lightweight, summer-use tent, this one's a keeper. More space and head height than my OEX Phoxx 2 II - although I suspect that latter is still more reliable in a gale. I've also got an OEX Jackal 2, which I'll keep using when the weather gets colder.

@billyinwaves Brilliant report Billy, hopefully it will help others who maybe considering this tent, I think you can brace the tent with trekking poles if you have them, by placing them under the cross bar, but as you say idealy it's a calm summer lowland tent 👍👍

looks like a lightweight version of the one tigris cosmitto, theres a few videos out of it and they also have the leaky vents. one tigris redesigned it to the 2.0 version which is slightly different. mine will be arriving in the next few days and im already going through ideas how to solve the leaky issue so if i find a solution il get back to you

Thanks for your helpful review, and this rain test.
I already had this tent on order (from Temu) and mine arrived on Saturday.
Including a £2 delivery charge, I paid £25.49 for mine. Bargain.
I'll give it a test soon, maybe in the rain.
I note that it's only 80cms wide for the inner, so you wonder how they can describe as 'two man'.
No problem for me, as a solo camper, and I'm just 5' 7 in my socks.
This will be just a summer backpacking tent for me.
I weighed it in the bag and my scales said 1.9kgs, not 1.7kgs. But I guess without the bag, pegs, and guy lines, it would be 1.7kgs.

    • @Mickoutdoors
      @Mickoutdoors  2 місяці тому

Hi Billy and thanks for taking the time to comment really appreciate it 👌 yes I would say they are possibly quoting a trail weight, I mean you could go lighter still and just use the outer if needed, it's definitely a summer tent, even though I think it passed the rain test I'm not sure I'd like to use it in prolonged rain or days of rain, but for £25 it's a absolute steal 👍👌

Hello Mick, well done on the rain test. Your previous video where you set this tent up in your garden was the first time I have seen one of your videos and although I already use a few different tents, I went straight online and bought this tent. I just couldn't resist it for £23.
Mine is definitely wider than 80 centimetres like one of the people commenting says theirs is, as I can easily put 2 sleeping pads side by side. So there must be a one person and a two person version of this tent, which is a bit cheeky of the site, as there doesn't seem to be anywhere you can select which one you want and it seems they are both the same price. I would have been disappointed if I had received the one person version.
It is definitely on the short side though, as my pad is 190 centimetres long and fits inside but is touching each end of the inner tent at the head and the foot. This will not be a problem for me as I am 5ft 6ins or 168 centimetres, but for anyone taller it will be a tight squeeze unless they lie diagonally, which would be difficult if they get an 80 centimetres wide tent.
My tent arrived in 2 days and rain was forecast, so I set it up in the garden to see if it leaked, but I closed the vents to give it a bit of a chance. It was out in continuous heavy rain for about 14 hours and when I went out to check, it had leaked in the same places yours had, directly underneath the vents which were still shut. There was a puddle about 4 inches in diameter underneath each vent and nothing had come up through the groundsheet at all.
My intention is to seam seal this tent the full length of the seams on both the inside and the outside paying particular attention to the stress points where the hooks are attached and all the stitching around the vents. I might even brush the sealant on the fabric attached to the hooks and the velcro on the vents, to prevent this acting like a wick.
I use silicone thinned right down with white spirit on the outside, which dries to leave no trace once the white spirit evaporates, and a thicker mixture of the same on the inside which will leave a shiny residue that will perform just as if the seams have been taped. I then expect to have a tent that will easily withstand even more than 14 hours of rain with no leaks at all.
Sorry to go on a bit. Nobody likes an essay, but I thought it might help anyone watching your video who might be put off by the leaks and then not buy this good cheap tent that should actually be fine once sealed. As long as they are not much taller than me.
I have now subscribed to your channel.

@lindahartley2940 hi Linda 👋 Thankyou so much for sharing your experience so far with this tent, that will be super helpful for anyone considering buying, I think for £23 and it does come with a warning not to use in extreme conditions, and knowing its really a dry weather summer tent, for it to be out for 14hrs with just a small puddle in my eyes is brilliant !! I've seen much much more expensive tents suffer a lot worse.
Welcome along, Linda, and thanks for the sub. I really do appreciate it 😀 😊

    Hi Mick
As lots of people have said, great value for money
Now you know it will stand up to the rain how about hiring an industrial fan to check for wind proof conditions, only joking
By the time you’ve done all the tests you will have paid more on the bills than the tent cost
    Great test well done

Second comment from me, this time posted live from the South Downs, where I've just spent two nights in this tent.
We've had no rain yet, but I can see tiny pin holes in the fly, especially where the clips fit onto webbing - which then pulls against the seam. So seam sealing is a very good idea, to get a better wet weather performance.
The second issue I see, is that the plastic clips are a bit soft, and I've already broken one.
Otherwise, this tent is fantastic value. It will fit two sleep pads, and the double doors mean you can swap entrances or your cooking areas when the wind changes.
I'm very impressed for £25quid! But the bad news is it seems to have sold out now, from most outlets. (as of August 19th) .

@billyinwaves Hi Billy, hope your enjoying yourself, good to hear that the tent is holding up with just a few minor issues, you can buy more flexible replacement clips off Amazon for just a few pound for x amount of them, I don't have the link, but seen another youtuber doing this 👍

    • @billyinwaves
      @billyinwaves Місяць тому +1

@@Mickoutdoors I just ordered some replacement clips via eBay. The clips need to be split down the middle so you can fit them to the webbing loop, without re-sewing it.
