Using an exothermic reaction to heat food is far from junk. It's actually genius. Mixing a chemical with water to create sustained temperatures of 200+ degrees is genius level. If I'm ever out camping by myself for a day or 2, I don't need my stove or all the set up and cleaning required to use it.
@@Joe_And_Nina_Pierce it's not new technology. It's basic, well known chemistry. And I really don't see how this is going to reduce cleaning. All I clean up after eating while hiking is my spoon.

The multi-use handle is neat, but the screwing stuff in part is a bit dicey. The point of a long handle is so that stuff on your fingers doesn't go in your mouth, but now you are using your fingers on the stuff that goes in your mouth to screw them on... I suppose you could make sure to always use a clean cloth to touch the stuff you are screwing on, but that does make me a bit less enthusiastic for the product.

Not quite, no toxic residue or leftover water. The old technology was an uncontrolled chemical reaction, meaning all of the energy was released at the same time. Lava Gel tempers it so max temp is 205° F and it holds that for 10 minutes and then slowly falls off. The old tech would get to 300° F Plus and then die, so you use the residual heat from the water to heat food. Very inefficient compared to Lava gel.

Good vid mate lots to look at I have ran the same MSR Wisperlite stove for over 30 years and just change the o-rings every couple of years and the best thing is it will run on any fuel that burns.
Thank you for sharing the expo items. The lava gel cook system looks promising. For backpacking purposes, it would be even better if you had salt packets with directions for adding water, rather than carry excess water weight around for the duration of the hikes. Better yet, give the salt water ratios and leave us to decide how to carry and dispense that as needed. One last point, $2 per meal in addition to food costs is a bit pricey. Maybe eliminating the salt water packets will bring down the costs. Happy camping! 🤗
There are some similar in Amazon, I’ve been using them for years and they’re much more inexpensive than these. You are correct. Lava Gel is a much better product than the old MRE heaters and Barocook uses that same old technology. The old technology was an uncontrolled chemical reaction, meaning all of the energy was released at the same time. I've seen different reports of those green cans blowing up or leaking after being refilled too much. They weren't designed for that and they therefore aren't as durable, so refill with caution.
Right. The original intention was single use but you can refill. Same with the butane canisters. The one caveat is how many times is safe to refill before there is an issue or user error causing a valve issue and failure. I actually like it.
The recycling centers want to see that hole so they are not crudhing live cans of explosive gas. You throw them out because there is no valvd on the tank, just a rubber ball that plugs the stem. After some grit or dirt gets on the ball, or the ball cracks, the canister leaks and when stored in a confined space is likely to explode. The interior is not very rustproof, either.

Much appreciated! That cooler vest was a real hoot. Some of that GSI stuff won't be out until next year so that's probably why I couldn't find a link yet.
Never seen anyone use these garage door panels in so many different ways . Thinking you should make a green house using them to keep the cold out. So you can grow food longer into the cold months I have one and have been thinking this would be a great way to insulate the house from the cold ground
It is similar but not the same. It is patented in almost every major GDP.
If you're interested, I'm 99% confident the LavaGel is what is known as a Phase Change Material, super fascinating stuff. This one seems optimized to quickly heat up to 212/100 and staying there as to cook, ofc
Great video! I look forward to seeing a test of the ultrasonic tick repellent devices for humans and pets. IF it works, I am sold. Also, will the ultrasonic bother the pets at all... Also, the heat device that takes the sting out of bug bites,,,is very interesting! Let's test it when it comes out!
Need a Full usage review of the GSI selkirk collapsible butane stove please! How Low can you go on simmer without turning off the burner? I understand lack of usable flame control, especially for simmering, is a pretty big issue with many camp stoves.
Ya that would have been nice. I saw you there as they were closing the doors the first day, but you were engaged in conversation with folks and I didn't want to interrupt. Next time.
Yes and No, Lava Gel is patented and is a huge upgrade from the old MRE heaters. The Gel matrix allows us to literally program the heat curve and temp. It is an amazing upgrade on the old MRE Technology and hopefully soon will be replacing it.
100% right! And the kit has been on the market for years as well. BaroCook is the leading manufacturer of that product. Only a fool would put that on his video....
Don't waste your money on that. It's much better to have either small ice pack you can tuck between the food to save space. Or to have a large block of ice. And....much much cheaper. It'll also avoid you look like a fool at camp sits ;)
Thank you for reviewing the Lava Gel Oven! We have had so many sales on Amazon we ran out of inventory for Prime. Sending more and should be back on prime soon.
*You did NOT invented that principle of cooking.* It's been used by many military forces all over the world (without the container), and known under "flameless heater pouches". In the outdoor industry, the principle is known as "Flameless cooker". And this, since many, many years now. It is branded under multiple names (BaroCook, Trekmate, Hotone, Plume Grove, Hydro Heater, etc. And, btw, "Lava Gel" is being sold in South Korea for many years. No wonder why no major retailer has YOUR product on their shelves and why you only sale on Amazon....
I don;t see the butane adapter listed in your description, or the GSI Outdoors butane stove that folded up so nicely. Does that just mean neither is available yet?
I have some of these things but different brands, they’ve been around for years and they’re less expensive. I car/tent camp only, too old to backpack but still doing it at 67. You just have to look for them, lots of people don’t want to do their own research and end up paying double the price for someone doing their homework. Example the refillable 1 lbs propane tanks Flame King 2 for $35 lol.
I've learned there are a lot of folks who can't get out as much as they'd like for various reasons, health, age, etc. Many like to watch these kinds of videos for entertainment purposes and that's okay by me. Others just like to see what's out there. Most never buy the stuff and that's just fine with me too. All are welcome. Cheers

I'm not American so I may not understand, but was that hotdog holder slightly over-engineered?
How very European of you to ask. 😂 But probably ya.
That's called Capitalism 😊. If it sells, it's a successful venture!
I’ve not seen a reverse one. That would be the shiznit (sp?) for marshmallows. I’m an expert marshmallow roaster getting them evenly brown / crispy and tripling in size. It’s harder than you think 😂
sorry i have to get very serious with this.... I've never seen a "outdoor" product that screams more bullshit than this thing. total waste of money, resources and space.
Love the OE knives 😊
Great video review, i must compliment you on long hours and not laughing outloud on the A/C cooler slash jacket. Thumbs up on being professional 👍🏻👍🏻 Though i cant find the review or link for the GSI crossover sink clean up set. A link or direction would be awesome 😎
Much appreciated! That cooler vest was a real hoot. Some of that GSI stuff won't be out until next year so that's probably why I couldn't find a link yet.
Love the GSI stuff. Great company.
That camp stove that folded in on itself was cool. 24:30
Agreed
Never seen anyone use these garage door panels in so many different ways . Thinking you should make a green house using them to keep the cold out. So you can grow food longer into the cold months I have one and have been thinking this would be a great way to insulate the house from the cold ground
Lava Gel has been out for many years in South Korea for camping and hiking products.
It is similar but not the same. It is patented in almost every major GDP.
Yeah, the guy lied.
If you're interested, I'm 99% confident the LavaGel is what is known as a Phase Change Material, super fascinating stuff. This one seems optimized to quickly heat up to 212/100 and staying there as to cook, ofc
I like the outdoor-element stuff
lava gel sounds interesting, would need to see an in depth test
Agreed and noted, thanks for watching!
Great video!!!
the best thing about this video was the last pan scraping thing 😂
03:18 I think I found my Ghostrike replacement. Wonder if that thing carries 12:00 scout and stays out the way.
Cool stuff
Lavagel seems awesome for vehicle emergency kits or go bags
Great video! I look forward to seeing a test of the ultrasonic tick repellent devices for humans and pets. IF it works, I am sold. Also, will the ultrasonic bother the pets at all... Also, the heat device that takes the sting out of bug bites,,,is very interesting! Let's test it when it comes out!
That lava gel oven is amazing!
OMG!! These were ALL great!!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Interested to see if that Solokool actually works on low for 10 hours and on a side note, how do you vent it out because usually that part is hot air.
6:10 thats so clever and well made
Need a Full usage review of the GSI selkirk collapsible butane stove please! How Low can you go on simmer without turning off the burner? I understand lack of usable flame control, especially for simmering, is a pretty big issue with many camp stoves.
Nice! Should have met up while we were both there!
Ya that would have been nice. I saw you there as they were closing the doors the first day, but you were engaged in conversation with folks and I didn't want to interrupt. Next time.
I really liked the Fuel Keg. I will be getting that so I'm not putting 1lb green bottles in the landfill.
Looks like a good one.
Get the Flame King, $35 not for one but 2! Cost about $1 to refill from your tank.
@@theoutdoorempiretoo expensive, Flame King is 2 for $35. I have them and use all the time.
lol that oven is literally the same as a military heater you get in an mre. Been around for decades
Lavageloven salesman: This bad boy is Sustainable! *opens thick plastic bag with a sip of water inside*😂😂😂
I clicked on the cooler pack link. They haven't launched yet. Any idea when they are going to hit the shelves?
Don't waste your money on that. It's much better to have either small ice pack you can tuck between the food to save space. Or to have a large block of ice. And....much much cheaper. It'll also avoid you look like a fool at camp sits ;)
I believe they said they're gonna do a Kickstarter first. Check there.
Lava gel oven is just that hot hands cra..p
When does that GSI folding stove come out?? Great design!
Loved the video. Thank u.
the stove is dope dude
Thank you for reviewing the Lava Gel Oven! We have had so many sales on Amazon we ran out of inventory for Prime. Sending more and should be back on prime soon.
That's a great problem to have! Hopefully we sent some of those shoppers your way. Cheers.
Thanks for the video 😊
My pleasure 😊
A follow up on the Heat It product would be nice . ❤
I don;t see the butane adapter listed in your description, or the GSI Outdoors butane stove that folded up so nicely. Does that just mean neither is available yet?
I couldn't find it online yet.
I really, really, really want one of these collapsible GSI stoves to be propane ready!
While I love the inventions I get the feeling most stuff is just for people who would rather not leave their house or apartment :)
Yeah, pretty much uselss video. Unfortunately...
Cheers
That was great!
That has to be a fun time! I subscribed
Thanks for the sub!
