Admiral McRaven and Jocko for presidency! This country would be a much better place!
Clearly one of the top 3 guests on any radio or podcast. Thank you Admiral.
POS. Corporate cash machine. Not one single word disparaging Potato Joe performance
Mcraven understands there are no dumb questions, Echo : do I have to be in the navy to become a Admiral?? He answers the question without blinking.
That kinda made me feel like echo is a little slow , to be on this show this long and ask that question to this man? Lol what a blunder
@@cb-jg5cp echo was testing the admiral to see if he would have the humility to subordinate his ego and answer his stupid question 😂
No. You don't need to be in the Navy to be an admiral.
Admiral Rachel L. Levine serves as the 17th Assistant Secretary for Health for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS),
U@@cb-jg5cp us I just uuuuu my heart u6
I’m an admiral in my own navy
“How do I become Admiral?” You can hear laugh in the background. The Admiral laughs then SEEMLESSLY goes into a great, relevant story. GREAT PODCAST. It has a LIFETIME of Leadership lessons. Thank You Jocko and Admiral McRaven.
i like how jocko still calls the admiral sir . respect
I like how he thinks he did something
@obamapox8185 He fought like the BEAST he is for our country..wtf do you besides sit behind a keyboard in whatever public library the public bus dropped you off at. Youll pass away unknown and completely forgotten. These 2 Men, however, will go down in history as 2 of the Best Warriors in The United States Navy Seal Teams.
Now take a seat SIS 💅 🥱

@@richarddavis8863 SIS, I got me. Sit tf down.
I think the Admiral is the only guy on the planet that tightens Jocko up, even if only just a bit.
The ONLY? I’m sure Admiral Raven tightens him up a lot (whether people see it or not) but he’s probably not the only person that motivates Jocko to be better.
I love Echo Charles! Wouldn’t be the same podcast without him!
Echo Charles will never get off the hook for the "Admiral" question. Jocko revisits it every podcast now.
Lol i laugh every time!
❤ 1:10
Least he did not think a hagis was a hedgehog
I've learned a lot from these two gentlemen. They are true leaders of humanity.
"Build the best damn frog float you can" Admiral McRaven
The King is the first to pick up the heaviest burden, and the last to lay it down.
That is Christ, Long live the King.
Wise words
Will always listen to every podcast with the admiral. 🙏
As a skydiver, I found the admiral's skydiving accident story (episode 290) amazing and terrifying. Visualizing it gave me the chills. That's a hard and humble man. His life story embodies the word Epic!
Where do you skydive?
This podcast has always been extremely educational. Jocko is a Godsend to this world.
This was a classic. So chock full of timeless wisdom applicable to anyone doing anything.
I forwarded this to my mid 20’s kids beginning their careers. How fortunate are young people now who have access to information that in a few hours can change the trajectory of their lives?
As an old Soldier and still serving, one of the best things the Admiral said was, “you have to bring it everyday.” Train hard, show the troopers you are there in the suck with them and push yourself. Both Jocko and the Admiral are examples of leadership that I reference often.
thats why you always listen to the end, pure gold echo
Immense respect for Admiral McRaven for his courage, service and prioritizing integrity and accountability as core principles.
What leadership looks and sounds like. Not one mention of popularity, ratings, no claiming "I'm the best", "They cheated", etc. This is a man of character and integrity.
What an absolute privilege it is to be able to watch and listen to these two incredible men talk and reminisce about time in the teams and the lessons they learned along the way.
Echo Charles didn’t say a word for hours. When he did ask a question it startled me. I forgot he was there. That makes him terrifying.
The true grey man
Hyped for McRaven being back, this'll be a great one for sure
How can I, as a forty-seven year old man, have more people like this, in my life? Because I definitely need that!
Awesome to see the Admiral back. I could listen to a dozen of these episodes with him.
Mcraven is one of the greatest military leaders of all time. It's awesome that we have podcasts that can interview these men and re-live history in real time.
What a pair!! Damn!!! It’s always awesome to listen these guys talk; it makes me proud of being American and living in the same country as these heroes!! Can you imagine Admiral McRaven as President?!! He would kill it!!
This should be mandatory watching in our schools, thank you! BTW, 1:05:45 my great (several times over) grandfather is William Pitt Fessenden who was Lincoln's Sec of the Treasury and his best friend was Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain who eulogized him.
I fondly remember Armed Forces Day at the Presidio in the mid 60's. I was 5 years old and was thrown off a jump tower with a zip line! Those were the days. Not to mention the unlimited soda!!!
Thank you brother for having Admiral McRaven on again.
I never comment on UA-cam vids but Jocko pulling up Echo Charles at the end had me cracking up. Fascinating guest, I could listen to Admiral Bill McRaven talk all day. Still one of the best 2/3 hours of my week, cheers Jocko (& EC).
CSM Dotson told me during a promotion board, “all you have to do to become a good leader is to pick the hard-right over the easy wrong. Do you leave the trash randomly blowing by you, or do you pick it up, and put it in the trash?”
I have listened to this podcast over and over for the past week. What a plethora of information that has been shared upon us. Thank you, Admiral, and thank you, Jocko, for this fantastic podcast.
This made me think of one of the best examples of leadership I ever saw while in the Army. I was assigned patient security detail on a cas-e-vac. I was initially told by my command I would make a round trip and be back at my base that night. Of course that's not what happened and I was dropped off at Ballad at 0300 hours. After a few hours sleep and not being a hundred percent sure where I was I discovered I would be there several days. I headed to the PX to pickup a set of pts and came across a major. I greeted him with good morning sir but no salute because we did not salute on my base and I had not been briefed on customs and courtesy's there. The major began to chew me alive. A Sergeant first class stepped in and vouged that I had just landed on the base and received no briefing. I had not met that NCO but he stuck up for me. Left a great impression.
when jacko left his home his dad became the man of the House🏠🥶
When Chuck Norris moved in, Jocko’s dad became He-Man
Going back to this now. Never got to finish it. Worthwhile convo right here
One of the best practical podcasts I've listened to.
This is one of the best podcasts I have ever listened to. There was so much wisdom in it. Thank you to all involved for sharing your knowledge and putting the video together!
This podcast came on at a time when I needed a leadership checkup. Good stuff. Thanks for the motivation!😊🎉
E5 after desert storm Navy vet.... the question at the end had me crying I laughed so hard. Best gentlemen
Excellent interview, leadership skills, and historical info. Hooyah brothers...
Long live Jocko.
As retired Navy I would have loved to have serve under this Admiral. What a leader.
I consider myself a softy, especially, today, but this interview, and the concepts contained within, choked me up with humility and pride.
Thank you, Jocko, Echo, Bill and everyone involved, for this presentation. Much love. 👌🏽🤙🏽
Whether a leader or not, working hard and appreciating every day for the opportunity to do so, is just as important. Keep on truckin'.
Amen
Listening to this interview is life changing. The whole notion of the "Long Green Table"...just something to really think about. Proud to have been in the Navy because of men like these guys.
This should be required listening for everyone.
Dear Jocko,
if you see this I have a request, could you possibly have origin USA make athletic shorts and running shorts made of wool or some other natural material? I don’t like to wear synthetic materials but with running shorts there is close to zero on the market that aren’t made of synthetic material. Maybe I am the only person who wants running shorts made from natural materials, but who knows?

while in keeping with this theme, make a desing for big ass people with abbs and tight waist.. i sometime even wear skirt because i feel tortured by the fabric.. or add the whats it called .. area of space for my "big" sexy ass to not be all constrainted.. (its like a triangle x 2 . rombohedrical.. below the testicles.. a cut in the thigh sides and a seam in the back that contour the designed activity when the back hamstrings activate.. maybe a page to add the design.. because in words the design is ...ugh.. :)
idga much about the fabric.. but im mexican,, love
I'll definitely be a buyer of that book. I enjoy reading all the admirals books, he's a brilliant guy.
There's only one word every time I hear from Admiral McRaven = integrity !
The best part here is that the most replayed part of the podcast is Echo's question. I bet everyone went back to check if Jocko's comment on Admiral's expression happened or not.
God damn it , the story around 18:30 is the one that hit the hardest. So simple and so difficult to do the right thing at all times.
That was amazing. Very good conversation. Thank you. All 3 of you.
ADM McRaven was an outstanding leader and commanding officer. He definitely lead from the front. #LLTB
Really good episode. I found it really helpful for leadership
I’ve been on Little Round Top and the Lions Den…. Bunch of us retired old Grunts… good times!
Definition of a living legend. I hope to live a life so rich in experience
Love the mindset of both of these guys. Awesome episode.
I love watching/listening to how a proper foundation for civilization is built.
If you can't learn from this man, you are not trying! Great podcast!
sir please release with subtitle, because of you reading style is too amazing.
2:44:39 there might not be stupid questions but here is a silly questions 😂
My biggest issue in SOF and it’s every organization I’ve met hundreds of guys that had the same issues. The prescription drugs and alcohol and 20yrs of war TBI/PTSD. Have to be taken into account. Our guys have been physically and mentally abused for 20yrs. the leadership allowed z-drugs like ambien and stimulants like Nuvigel/adderall to be dispensed like crazy. Which then alters chemicals in the brain that leads to anxiety/depression. Then they wonder why guys ended up with “Behavioral problems” problems. Btw we learned this lesson once in Vietnam. Alcohol weakens the lining of the brain so your a lot more susceptible to TBI etc. --- but before people go judging especially older officers who were at the 0-6 level on 9/11. They don’t have any idea what it’s like being at war 20yrs being in the 0-1 - 0-4 ranks or E1-E7/8.
You gotta look from the context our guys had poor leadership and guidance allowing the alcohol and prescription drug use which then led to serious issues. I can’t even count how many operators I know that were addicted to Opioids, benzodiazepines, z-drugs, & stimulants. All which the commands allowed. Understand the avg door kicker is between 19-26 or so. Just think back to when you were between that age range and having a command make the prescription drug use acceptable. Now we have record veteran suicide stats which goes to show. The issues are much deeper than a random guy just wanting to do wrong for the fun of it. People need to take responsibility for what they did to contribute to the destructive culture. Instead of blaming the young guy that had ambien shoved down his throat at 19yrs old. I mean 19! At 19 you don’t know anything.
I remember a date when those people addressed their grievances
Good stuff Jocko very enjoyable. GOD bless Jocko Willink and Echo Charles
Im a big fan of the Admiral. His books are excellent. Sea stories is my fav. Wisdom of the Bullfrog is also a excellent read. Great author and he lived what he wrote. Just amazing.
When he said that as a leader you need to work hard every day and earn the respect every day and when you stop doing that you are not the right leader anymore its so true.
Thanks for all these valuable life lessons.
And thanks both of you for your service and for everything you did for the world.
Oh damn I listened to his commencement speech and had no idea he's been on this podcast before.
I found Jocko through looking for McRaven and his speech. The commencement speech is also in Spanish. Me, too. Discovered interview 290. Now I attend Jocko school here on UA-cam. 😁
Respect from Romania 🇷🇴
Fantastic episode. Thanks so much for sharing your wisdom
I realize this is wayyy late (I've been catching up, podcast by podcast, since late 2016), but just in case anyone curious about history reads this:
The Admiral states that not even the Roman legions relied on professional troops that would serve for decades. He's only right as far as the first century BC. After that, as Rome violently transitioned from an overstretched Republic to an official Empire (plenty of warning for us there, btw), it revolutionized its military. The Legions were transformed into a permanent professional force that drew its infantry from the poor classes and had a minimum 25 year term of service. Roman soldiers were basically deployed until they died or earned that 25 year retirement. This was the Army that anchored civilization for the next 4 centuries and beyond.
Other than that, great podcast by two incredibly high-achieving leaders! Thank you, Jocko and Admiral McRaven!
Straight up blood! That’s me on concrete day! I’m on another planet! Only thing on my mind is winning! 💪🇺🇸💯🦅!!!
Nice. Got McRaven back for round 2. 😎
I think your selling the Turpiz story short, that was singly one of the most daring raids of the war. Watch the Jeremy clarkson story it’s amazing. Very brave blokes.
Jocko is capturing history
A great, well done Podcast sir! Much respect for Admiral McRaven!
Wish McRaven would run for President
What a treat to have the admiral on again!
His first interview and this one are excellent videos with life gems.
You don’t get the respect because you’re in charge. You earn it EVERY DAY. 👌🏽
Herschel Davis needs to come on the Podcast. He's badass AF.
I really wish Admiral McRaven would run for president.
I would, too, but he has a serious illness that slows him down (hard to believe, but yes). I think he also mentioned that he would like to stay married. 😉 His wife has been a warrior at his side for many ýears.
@@deborahcooler8392 That is unfortunate. We've all benefitted from his service for many years, so even without the illness it would be too much to ask of him. Having said that, I still feel he's the embodiment of everything our commander in chief should be.
You'd think Echo Charles would know more about military rank structure after over 300 plus podcasts. 😂
Great video learnt a lot about leadership 🎉😊
This book is amazing, Admiral McCraven truly changed the way I view the world and leadership.
Absolutely love this one 😎
I really liked the first one. This one should be good.
50:10 "first we send dogs... then we send Iraqis... then we go ourselves" xD xD xD
This may be the most ruthless thing I have ever heard from Jacko.
The Iraqis should go before the dogs... a dog took down Solemani 😂
I’ve been wishing that this man would run for president for years.
He is too honorable to dip his emaculate toes into the swampwater of politics.
@@jerryandrews3699 Exactly what I was thinking about somebodies statement of him becoming president. He’s probably not the slightest interested.
Always great to listen to the bullfrog
I thought this was a re-upload heck yes!
I thought it was uncharacteristic of Echo to sound sarcastic and mocking...then I could see he was dead serious when he asked about being an admiral.
Absolutely legendary men. The impact you've all had on whole generations is outstanding and I hope you can impact many more in the future. Thank you for everything you've all done for men and war
The admiral is full of wisdom 🫡
1 of the best podcasts you’ve had in awhile. The Bullfrog has Great Wisdom & passed down some great knowledge during the podcast.Every podcast I listen to when I’m driving down the interstate in my semi 🛣️ I learn something about life. That makes me reflect on my life & some of the really dumb things I have done & the good things Ive done & accomplished.Semper-Fi 89’-93’.
Just bought the Admirals book, and I'm about halfway through it. Wonderful book!
All of his writings have been first rate.
Heroes for horses are mentioned in the book.
Dudes a beast
Legit as they come
There seem to be a lot of generals and admirals with Mc or Mac. McMaster, Mcraven, McArthur, and many more. Scottish warrior blood
Interesting. 🙂. I never seen that culture as sort of warrior breeds but it’s fascinating to ponder it.
Soviet paper towels 😂 that’s sounds like something I’d say
Long green table is so good
Haha! I did the same thing in SMUT! Diving Rambo strafe. Instructors just shook their head. I was a Senior Chief…so no reprimands. But, we didn’t win either…they called TTO …I just put dye on a couple instructors in my super flank! Sometimes you are just frucked. I looked at the scenario afterwards, we were meant to funnel into a kill zone. It was all meant to be a loss. Lose on your own terms. But own it.
To many I’s in that comment. EMBARASSING.
Not on this level, but only a few months left leadership knew I'd tell them to fuck off if it was dumb and didn't fit the actual mission. They needed someone for a detail to watch an asset and 20+ people while their plan was accomplished. The first one out the last one in. My troops were more important than paper pushing assholes who only talked to us cause it made them look good. I had plenty of SNCOs who kept my spirits up when I pissed off the people that even leadership was pissed were around them. One guy is catching hands if I ever see him no matter what country we are in.
