One of my first ancestors had that experience, too. Her father was already in the states but passed away before she was able to immigrate from Denmark. With no English, she came to Salt lake in the Willie Handcart Company and became a plural wife, sealed by Brigham Young. This unfortunately was an all-too-common situation. Another wife had documented how "mean" my ancestor was to her. I...kind of don't blame her, though. I'd be a little salty too

I've already been mad about all the trauma myself and my family endured while being members, but the more I learn the angrier I get. There have been a number of people who have asked me why x, y, and z weren't enough for me to leave before I did and the reality is that most everyday members don't know any of it. Another interesting thing to point out is that the book of Mormon says that David and Solomon's practice of taking many wives was an abomination, and God seems to have changed his mind in the doctrine and covenants, which says that I justified my servants, David and Solomon as to the practice of taking many wives. The Mormon missionaries like to tell you that God is not the author of confusion, but I'm still confused about this!

One of the funniest things about D&C 132 that seems to always go unnoticed by believing Mormons is that in the very opening statement of the "revelation" it is made clear that the whole thing was Joseph Smith's idea: "[I]nasmuch as you have inquired of my hand to know and understand wherein I, the Lord, justified my servants...as touching the principle and doctrine of their having many wives and concubines...." Right from the start it's clear that God didn't just decide one day to deliver this revelation. God was happy saying nothing. You guys are so good. I love the earrings, Tanner! I'd love to see more of these about their lies. I remember going back to church after years of not going, and the contrast was huge. They handed me a Sunday school manual with a picture of Brigham Young on it and then inside was a picture of him and his wife. And they talked all about his wife. I looked through the book and there was nothing about his other 63ish wives. And I was shocked. Because I grew up when they actually admitted to that. I toured The Lion House in SLC And they showed us the rooms where his wives lived!! And I think they are admitting it again now, but there was years where they denied polygamy altogether. And they also denied that there was ever a rule against caffeine etc etc etc.
My grandmother made me actually get my can of coke out of her trash because she wanted to 'avoid the appearance of evil.'
    True story. Not lying.
And everyone was telling me that it must've been my ward bishop teaching no caffeine because the church never taught that! That may seem small, but the lies were rampant! When BYU got caffeinated drinks they said, 'well nobody ever asked for them.' as their reason why they had no caffeinated drinks! We asked for them in our souls! But we were told it was a sin, couldn't get in the temple if you partook, so of course we didn't ask for it!
    Jerks!
Those guys who did a UA-cam channel The Three Mormons? Or something like that, were clearly hired to tell the church's lies! It was despicable.
Anyway, carry on! You guys are great!

I was raised in Virginia. On Sunday mornings when our parents weren’t around, we liked to watch a tele-evangelist called Ernest Angely. He used to “heal” people by speaking in tongues or talking really really fast and then concluding with a swift and powerful hand heel to the afflicted’s forehead with enough force to throw a person’s head back. To our elementary school selves that was delightful theatre! As I sat and listened to you all talk about the lying that the profit and his merry band of 12 dispense, it occurred to me that as goofball as I found Ernest Angely to be at least he was providing some entertainment value. The Mormon prophet and apostles are delivering the exact same shite, but offer no value at all. I mean it’s hands down all day the Ernest Angely hour over mormon general conference!😂

Oaks then went back to the press and had them rescind the part where Oaks said that he had no knowledge of Packers talking to the bishop. It's so true that the so-called prophets and apostles really try to do everything they can to imply that they're having special face time with Jesus regularly...or at least have had it at least once. But when put on the spot, several of them over the years have had to admit that they've never met with the big guy. Really makes them seem a lot less impressive when you find that out, combined with realizing that most of them are only in those elevated positions of authority because of nepotism. It gets to the point where if they were at least claiming that a likeness of Jesus appeared to them in a cinnamon roll or a spaghetti sauce stain...that would actually constitute an upgrade of credentials for them to be telling other people what Jesus wants.
Like Nelson's claim to know how Jesus feels about the "Mormon" nickname isn't even supported by a cinnamon roll.

As a paraphrase, he instructed them that when a person to whom they are proteolyzing asks them an uncomfortable question, do not answer that question, but answer the question the missionary wished the prospect had asked. I remember the teacher SPECIFICALLY saying that it was called "lying for the lord".
    - - - - - -
I have just scanned through 100s of YT videos of Mormons & missions, but cannot find that video today. Perhaps the channel has closed or it is buried under the onslaught of all the other videos.

Also, I recently wrote John bc it seemed that the internet was "scrubbed" from this term 'lying for the lord'. This Podcaster used this term in context of their "calling made sure" but I swear she'd said "short" instead of "sure".

(Mormonism is even wilder than Christianity) I've learned so much watching you guys. You make a great team. Joseph Smith was really something, geeze.. what a character (con artist and sexual predator as well, yikes). If only he could see what his scam turned into two centuries later, he'd be very impressed w/himself. Americans were actually pretty well educated at that time. Most were readers. Thomas Paine was popular. Though you can see how he tried to make it sound more antiquated using _thee_ and _thou,_ etc even though people didnt speak like that any longer during the time he lived.

I was raised strict LDS in a family of 7 children. IMO you have to be able to lie and be willfully ignorant to be in the church. As a preteen I found many of the teachings to be contradictory and unbelievable. But when I asked a question about the legitimacy of the doctrine and certain supernatural events that were claimed to be real I was scolded, talked down to, and ostracized. This treatment was by adults and kids my age. My parents lied to us because they were so ashamed if the did something against the church, like drinking caffeine or not wearing the holy underwear that they would LIE instead of telling the truth.

    • @LydiaGilchrist-c5r

As a teen if I asked my parents about sex, alcohol or drugs, things a lot of nonLDS friends were doing the only answer they could give was that it was a sin and to abstain and stay away from anyone who isn’t LDS. It was a horrible childhood and teen years, the self hate the church’s teachings make you feel for being a normal human being were crippling. Perfectionism and competitiveness to be the better mormon was rampant in the church. I’m no longer LDS but my family is, They literally believe that I’m influenced by
Satan and are scared to be around me and my family. My SIL will literally move her kids to the other side of the room from us.

RE 13:00 min mark: I just wanted to refresh everyone's mind about the 1831 word of God Joseph received that said: "he that keepeth the laws of God hath no need to break the laws of the land" (D&C 58:21) Too bad God couldn't foresee the Saints being in a state that had anti-bigamy laws on its books already (Illinois) at the time He was going to have Joseph get really serious about his practice of polygamy - Mormon God is a lot of things, but omniscient doesn't seem to be one of those things. 😉

Were Joseph and Fanny caught having sex in a barn?
Probably not. The only historical record with that detail comes from an 1872 account from William McLellin,[BIO] who claimed Joseph and Fanny were "caught in the act" of being "sealed" in a barn by Emma Smith.[BIO][50] In addition to the account being thirdhand and a recollection from many decades later, McLellin had been excommunicated for apostasy, had a personal vendetta against Joseph, and was an active participant in the Missouri mobs

My thumb nail is in part a reference to Josephs Myth. Old Joe put his head deep deep into his old white and Lo, he conjured up the Book of Mormon. He did it again and Lo, he produced his interpretation of what he mistakenly claimed was The Book of Abraham . Joe's 3rd wife was Lucinda Morgan. First the wife of William Morgan, of The Morgan Affair, a Freemason kidnapping and murder of Morgan who was writing a book on the first 3 degrees of Freemasonry. Without permission. Consequently he was kidnapped and murdered by Knights Templar Freemasons. Some confessed to Thurlow Weed, he wrote a chapter in his autobiography. Joe was rooming with Lucinda and her husband when he took a fancy to Lucinda and with Mr Harris permission Lucinda married Joe. And when Joe Died she married Joe again!! For time and eternity and she married hubby Harris for Time. Such is the perversion call Mormonism. .
