Hi Mark, Great Videos. Quick question regards property. I am planning on moving overseas by the end of the year and I own a house with my brother, who also lives in the house. He has no plans to sell the house. Is this going to be an issue for my non-residency? I am a 5 year visa underway in Thailand and plan on getting a 12 month rental there, along with drivers licensee, bank account, purchase of a car, health insurance. Eventually plan is moving to Dubai but my crypto needs to moon first :)
Thank you @madcabbie6579 (your username reminded me of the game Crazy Taxi) It should not be an issue to continue to own an investment property in Australia. However its best we discuss it based on your personal circumstances. Sounds like your Thai set up is looking strong Please let me know if that answers your question. Please book a meeting if you want to learn more.
Hi Mark, am I well within my rights not to email identification documents such as passport and drivers license before closing WestPac account while being overseas? Can I verbally consent to providing personal details only. Is that ok?
What is the status with Medicare? Another expat recently told me he was advised that he didn't have to cancel it and that a court ruling had supposedly backed that up? Tried looking it up but can find nothing to substantiate that.
Hi @intellectualgladiata - great question. It's quite a contentious topic in the expat space. I have also heard mixed messages on this. For example, you may have up to 5 years to continue to use Medicare services in Australia or only 12 months. The article below - says as an Australian citizen or PR - You’ll remain enrolled in Medicare for 12 months from the date you first left Australia. My advice (which is conservative) is not to bother with Medicare services if you have listed yourself as a non-resident for tax purposes. Everyone's situation differs but it's usually not worth getting caught up paying the Medicare levy or being an Australian resident. www.servicesaustralia.gov.au/enrolling-medicare-if-youre-australian-permanent-resident?context=60092
My entire family 4 generation are and are fat welfare payments..thats why i have to leav the accumulated taxation in Australia for private sector workers..is a dead end Game

It's still a great place to visit with great people, but I'll stay in my native US, thanks.
Thanks for your comment @timkellyd2r923

@Isha_Sunshine I cannot see any reason why that would not be ok. Let me know if you have any other questions.
