Great testimony. Especially liked the part about people freaking out when they first get hyperacusis. The experience itself is terrifying, and this is only amplified by the complete lack of understanding and gaslighting by the medical community.
I never felt more fragile and desperate than those first few months where you slowly get a sense of how to deal with it. Even now still, 2.5 years later, it's horrifying to think about how quickly any progress can get wiped out by a single overexposure
Take care Jon, do not expose your ears unnecessarily to noise, even it's a big change in your life. For some of us the trip is quite long (11 years for me). Good news is that researchers are now taking the illness seriously (it was not the case when a concert destroyed my ears), we have to wait for a cure...
I just watched your story. I'm here with you bro, I totally understand what you're dealing with and going through. Any hard object touches another hard object and it hurts. Whether that's accidentally dropping something on the floor or sitting a cup on top of a table. I'm here with ya man. We will get through this life. Gods with us. Cry out to him.
Thanks for getting the word out. I received hyperacusis from a cervical spine injury I received in 2012. It was not diagnosed until 2016. We know its a sense that its impossible for a person without hyperacusis to understand what we live with on a daily basis. As we know our daily lives do a 180.
Prayers for you. I have tinnitus , pulsatile Tinnitus, tensor tympani syndrome so I understand.
Couldn't have said any of this better myself. Thank you Jon.
Thank you, Jon 🤍
I ruined my life with acoustic trauma. I RUINED IT SO SO BAD!! 55dB loss in left ear, tinnitus, hyperacusis, and insomnia. I would do anything to go back in time. I don’t want to even keep going forward I’m scared man HELP PLEASE SOMEONE HELP
Just so you know, you’re not alone. Music was my life until the last day of last year (Listening, playing the guitar, figuring songs out, recording, learning production). At new year’s eve, I went to this pub where they put the pool table right next to the band (the drums, specifically). I’ve always watched out like crazy for not exposing my ears to loud sounds over extended periods of time). This night I didn’t take care, played pool for hours, while the band was playing nom stop and very loud (very shitty music, btw). Lost hearing in both ears, got tinnitus and hyperacusis/distortion, and I haven’t been able to listen to music since January 1st (and I have tried). Day to day activities so hard to do, watching movies is terrible. That’s when we notice how pretty much everything we do is sound-dependent. I’m also depressed, and people close to me seem to think that the hyperacusis and distortion are just symptoms of my depression, they struggle to empathize as a real problem outside of depression. Just so you know, you’re not alone. And it’s been the toughest/most difficult time of my life, and I have hope to learn how to manage it.
@@tonicogsf I hope we heal 😞 I don’t want to manage it or cope with this
@@Ryliftz me 2. How did yours happen (if you feel comfortable talking about it)
@@tonicogsf I was with some people I thought were friends. Truth is I have a gut feeling they did this to me on purpose, because they were lying about not using ear pro. But we shot around 700 rounds of high caliber guns and I was the only one not using hearing protection. When I put my fingers inside my ears to protect they said that was worse for me and to stop protecting my ears… I’ll never forget that night. Today I live with these hearing issues, they’ve improved since day 1 but what I would do to be completely restored…. 😪
@@Ryliftz That's is awful, really. I'm sorry for you man, and I hope our hearing problems do get better over time. It has been truly difficult for me too.
This whole video I was like "Thats exactly my experience" I thought I was alone.
The hardest thing is so many people just...dont understand and continue yelling
I don't want to change people, but some go to the length that they think youre faking, or just being a jerk...its rough.
Not even recognized as a disability...Not even recognized by most doctors at all!
My hyperacusis was given to me over short time (~20 days) by Felon Neighbor blasting Bass music.
Police do nothing, Hoa does nothing, Courts do nothing.
The amount of helicopters/trains/ Booming cars
Its mind boggling how little care there is for sound+light...and overall general health in America now that i think about it
Even the food and city design...just no body cares.
All about $$$
hi jon. I already know your story of seeing you discussing in the forums, I really liked your testimony and how you faithfully write point by point how this disorder affects your life and the limitations it has.
I would like to expose you since you talk at the end of the video about donations that it would be interesting to try to contact Jeff Bezos's wife, I have been following his trajectory for some time regarding the donations he makes and he is very generous with this type of cause. I am from Spain and my level of English is not very good to try to contact a person like that. I think it would be interesting to try it and that someone with good training on the subject would send you all the information on this matter. She works with a consultancy called Bridgespan Group, they are the ones who select the causes to help. On the other hand, there is also the company of the sadly deceased due to tinnitus (Kent Taylor), owner of the Texas Roadhouse restaurant chain, who left a statement before dying to help the cause. It would be interesting if someone addressed this issue and worked to get more donations for research. greetings jon
Jon what is your job? Thanks for making this video. I wish I could still work but that’s not happening in a dental office.
Thanks jon for the information
Im thinking we should be more aware from these chronical sickness

I have Tinnitus and hyperacusis.... but my dysacusis is WAY worse than T & H. I WANT A CURE FOR DYSACUSIS
❤🙏🏻
I have this also. Noise cancelling air pods have been great for me. I couldn’t handle being in crowded restaurants, bars etc. even dishes being put in a sink is excruciating. I have hearing loss now too so hoping a hearing aid will help.
Could you please tell me what kind of noise canceling air pods you use? Thank you
What's the name of the facebook group you're talking about ? thanks

@@HyperacusisCentral Thanks it will be useful for everyone. Take care everybody 😊
Got myself kicked out of one of the groups and sent a long litany about why I was a bad person, apparently it happens to a lot of (nice) people. Would be great to have a slightly less autocratic group without all the frequent references to Christianity and religious thought and practice in general. Cheers ☺️
Yes. I had the same problem. I was very proactive, I studied a lot, I worked all day long. Suddenly, when tinnitus started, I just coudln't do nothing anymore. I struggle a lot to do the things I did before.
What about TRT therapy from Dr Jasterboff?
