    Dear Noelle, hyperacusis has different forms. It sounds like you have Pain Hyperacusis. It’s discovered by Bryan Pollard, the founder of the Hyperacusis Research foundation. Google it and you’ll find more info about it. Do not let anyone tell you, you can’t shield yourself from noise because the hyperacusis should get worse (they say). Do not let anyone tell you that you can train it by using pink noise, brown or white noise. Pain Hyperacusis patients cannot train their ears/ brain to get better. And sadly there is until now no cure. The Hyperacusis Research foundation is funding different research to try to find a cure. The best you can do is try to avoid setbacks by using ear protection. For pain hyperacusis patients it’s very important to avoid setbacks. I wish you all the best, because it’s very hard to live with. People who have pain hyperacusis mostly are not depressed, but because it’s so painful to live with it erases their laughter in life. Hopefully for every Pain Hyperacusis sufferer there will be a cure or medicine in the near future 🍀

    The bigger question is What sounds can you tolerate for Sound Therapy? I couldnt use anything at first. Pink noise was painful. I opted for TRT with wearable sound gens which gave me good leverage within months to graduate onto more challenging sounds. Baby steps. Set backs will happen and discourage you. What can you do but keep trying.? Its tough. I wish the best for all suffering with this. I guess i was a lucky one to overcome it in 5 years.

    One misconception is that there is Permanent damage to the inner ear hair folicles. Not true. I believe these very hairs can get traumatized but over time can regain their normal function . How else can I recover from the same excruciating condition?

    • @log791
      @log791 7 днів тому

      Because Hyperacusis is not a specific illness, but a syndrome. There can be multiple underlying cause and still the symptoms are very similar. For some, it is only a brain decoding error. In this case the cure is easier. For others, there _is_ a damage to the inner ear. These are differentiated as "central" and "peripheral" Hyperacusis. I suffered from both. I recovered from central Hyperacusis 15 years ago in 3 weeks. Now I am suffering from peripheral Hyperacusis, and it seems permanent. Still, I don't think that people with peripheral Hyperacusis should give up their hopes. Sometimes the body recovers or at least the symptoms become weaker. And there is more and more research in this topic which I hope will offer some kind of cure in the future. Hang in there!

    I had a law enforcement job and had to shoot firearms to secure my job. I bought 40db muffs with built in speakers that would cut off sound at high dbs. I had no choice in getting disability or insurance to pay my cost because hyperacusis isnt recognized. I gave up my music...friends..church...etc. After 5 years....i beat this for good. Im healed❤.

    I'm only 16, and though I've yet to see a doctor about this, pain hyperacusis is the only condition I have come across that perfectly describes my ear toubles. I'm pretty sure I have a very mild case of this as I've never experienced severe pain from it, but that's only because I avoid really loud environments whenever I can. I have never been to a concert before, and likely will never go to one. I have to cover my ears during a fire alarm or during a pep ralley. I sometimes isolate myself at school because just sitting next to people while they laugh or talk can start hurting. I'm so lucky that it has never been dehibiliting to me, but I'm scared it will only get worse. When I did my own research on hyperacusis there were so many questions and theories that have yet to be researched. I hope I can watch, or somehow help, as these questions are answered.

    Your going about it wrong. You have to have noise exposures at low levels otherwise you will get worse. I know 30 years later. I couldnt even talk at that time. I tried to talk and exposed myself around noise, had hundreds of setback. Today i can talk out loud, still have setbacks from loud sounds. Now my tinnitus is getting worse. Exercise seems to help. If pverprotect ears you will be stuck
