While you can’t replace the modem-router provided by the ISP, you can add a 3rd party router to handle routing, NAT, DHCP, etc., but you need to set up the ISP’s modem/router to bridge mode to avoid double NAT. This essentially turns the ISP’s modem/router to just a modem which is better because 3rd party routers are more powerful and can handle the router functions better.
I had my Netgear AX12 RAX120-100NAS Dual band active for about 2 weeks. Cox's Surfboard modem/router was still active. My internet speeds were blazing fast. Then...no one was able to connect to Netgear.
After going in to talk to them about this, the girl told me we were a victim of "Beacon". She said Cox has it set up to automatically detect 3rd party routers, then block their connection on the network. Lastly, she admitted that they aren't supposed to talk about that with customers. They basically want to ensure you only use devices they can troubleshoot; to avoid embarrassing failed attempts at troubleshooting unfamiliar tech. I wish there were a workaround for it.

use DMZ function in your converge modem/router. connect the 3rd party router to the lan port of the isp router. in the dmz config, enable it and put the 3rd party router as host address. click save. Hope this helps.

have you encountered that after certain days the speed of the modem slows down to just 100mbps, while after reboot it will be back to normal to 800mbps. The Qos is disabled, so im wondering why is there seem to have a capping after a certain time.
You can replace your modem by getting the Serial number of the previous one then put it on the new one that you're going to use.
Yeah pwede mo yan gawin but when mag update sila sa kanilang system at sa modem mo di maka update ang modem dahil pinalitan mo ito at nalaman nila na pinalitan mo automatic disconnect na ang magyayari. makikita sa term and condition nila

@@SyntaxMoto di yan makikita kasi bawat customer ng pldt iisa lang serial number. Kaya mo nga ililipat para pag nakita sa system nila, original modem pa din. Matagal na kong nag palit ng main modem na dalawa lang antenna to 4 antenna.

I always wonder kung pwede kung palitan ng purely modem device kasi having a gaming router next to a PLDT modem router looks cluttering, daming antenna, masakit sa mata... but I now have to accept the fact that it's not possible... thanks to you I can finally put this dilemma of mine to rest...

the only way is just to have devices behind the modem, disable the wifi capabilities and just create a bridge and 0.0.0.0 ip to access internet
Does it benefit me to replace my spectrum stock modem with one like a netgear night hawk, if im hard wiring my pc instead of using wifi?
Hi, wiring or using a lan cable is always better if you are not moving your PC a lot. connection would be more stable than using wifi.
I think you are in a different region where you have access to a netgear modem router, if your internet service provider allows you use a different modem-router like the nighthawk, that will be better than using your stock modem router ( most of the time thirt party modem router have better wifi capability), but if you will be just using wiring no need to change at all..

Sana mapalitan agad sir, ung mga over the phone support kasi papadala pa nila via mail.. kaya minsan matagal, meron din naman ibang ISP na dadalhin ng service tech nila ung replacement..
Sir yong modem nang ISP ko parang hindi kaya yong dalawang wifi extender ko nawawala internet sa extender ko tapos kung e unplug at plug ko bumabalik internet tapos mawawala na naman... Tapos mainit yong modem

Pag nag palit ka po ba ng router, magkakaron ka po ba ng option na mag create ng another SSID? Yung default router po kasi namin walang ganung option. Sky fiber po ang router namin and CM5100.g2 po ang model.
Hi sir, unfortunately d po ako familiar sa model na yan if possible, pero usually ung mga modem-router na provided ng ISP is walang option to create another ssid, just change ssid name.. for other third party wifi router naman po, isa lang din main SSID, while pwede mag create ng guest network with a different ssid
i performed a hard reset on my modem and I can't get to the internet after the reset. what i did was, i logged in to my neighbor's modem web ui, downloaded the configuration file , edit the account name and SSID under configuration file's xml. once that's done i reconfigured my modem by uploading the config file and it works. So, its basically a copy/clone of my neighbors modem. Will it work the same way as changing your ISP's modem?
Nice information, hopefully this can help other users who tried to force reset their modem accidentally. for the modem i doubt it would be possible for another model.. But not really sure if same model will work, because i have already confirmed via tech support that we cannot replace the modem they provided, since it is bind to their system like the MAC address and serial number. Every time you call or ask for support they always ask for the serial number.

Hi sir, I'm still confuse on what's the use of wifi routers that are for sale just like the asus routers you've mentioned in the video if there is already a modem/wifi provided by the ISP? Do I/we connect the wifi router bought to the modem provided by the ISP to be able to use that router? Unfortunately our wifi modem does not reach my room and has very weak signal, I was thinking pn using repeater but wouldn't that make the wifi slower? That's why I'm curious about wifi routers
the use of third-party wifi router is to get better experience compare to the all in one modem
outer provided by your internet service provider. Usually, third party wifi router that is connected to the main modem
outer can give a longer range compared to the stock modem router, aside from range, other features like qos, prioritization, blocking etc are available on the additional third party wifi router.
repeaters are also great to extend wifi signals from your modem
outer, for me i dont like repeaters for most of the time half of the speed is gone..

My roommate used to take care of the wifi bill, but they left for there country. I dont have their acc info. Can i still use the router & modem, and call up a provider. I never dealt with these stuff before

Hi Sir, kung yung modem router po na un is from converge din, pwede sya gamitin sa ibang house na may converge fiber line din, pero hindi sya plug and play, makikipag coordinate ka pa with converge na gagamitin mo ung isang modem router na galing din sa kanila, kasi nakabind ung serial number\mac address ng modem na un sa dating gumagamit\account, pag ginamit nyo sya i activate nila ung modem-router under your account para magamit..

Kung need mo lang sila magka internet need lang nila wifi router po.. No need ng additional modem since may modem router kayo for the internet.
sir question, I am planning to buy TP Link AX12 AX1500 Wi-Fi 6, my ISP is also Converge. I know that we cannot replace the default modem-router that they provided, but if add the AX12 as my second router, will there be a speed improvement in the internet via LAN connection (I mean just for the range of what plan I am)? For Wifi connection I am sure that there will be a difference, I'm just wondering if it's via LAN will there be a difference with the speed.
Hi, no difference from output via lan cable. The speed that you get directly connecting to the modem-router will be the same speed you will be getting from the third party wifi router like tplink ax12 (internet speed).

Hi sir not all, there are instances na may mga modem router na pedeng gawing extender like most pldt modem router.. while for the mesh capability it is usually brand specific, d pedeng mix and match na brand.. :)

meron ako 2 pldt connections. yung first one is ok pero ung second modem is umiinit. sabi kasi nung nagkabit ganun daw talaga ung mga latest modem, umiinit. hindi ko rin naman gusto pinapatay ung internet. yung unang connection ko 24/7 d naman umiinit. ung second modem, few minutes iinit agad. ano po maganda solution
Hi Mark, umiinit talaga sila lalo na heavy ang traffic or laging may nag connect sa internet, one option is get a small usb fan or small fan na nakatutok sa kanila, or get a third party wifi router, para kahit papano ma offset ung routing sa third party router, kasi ung binibigay ni ni ISP is all in one, modem-router-wifi- switch... kaya lahat sa kanya..
so di pwede tangalin router ng converge at iinstall ko lang new modem at connect ko lang LAN cable?

Hi Tram ung modem router ni Isp is usually hindi wifi 6 router, ung sa modem router po nya ang pinaka need mo is ung modem part for internet, kaya pag bumili ka ng wifi 6 wireless router ma eenjoy mo pa din wifi 6 capabilities nung binili mong wireless router. Yung modem po is standard lang, trabaho lang nya is para magkaroon ng internet, wala syang paki kung wifi 5 or wifi 6 or wifi 6e ung i connect mong wireless router.. :)

Hi Bakes, usually if the modem and router is in 2 separate boxes you can replace the router, but i had experience in Singapore, that they are binding the MAC address of the router to their own modem, so it might depend in your location. but basically, you can replace just the router.

Not familiar with the cm5100g po, pero for wifi router madaming maganda depende sa budget. And ung cm5100g2 po ba is may modem functionality? Or connected din sya sa modem pa?

honestally this is one thing i hate about isp's here and why they cant use a more secure portal took me a bit to figure out the modem replacment when i first moved here on dsl but i do want to get a way better fiber modem as what they supply is pretty much a turd
and the security i was very suprised with as all i had to do is input a number leave everything blank including the encryption key (this is so insecure its not even funny) and i bet with their special admin location they have its the same with fiber like how hard would it have been uppon rollout to just use a better usage method
sorry it really just annoys me i believe it should be the users right to spend money on a good modem/router combo with all the wistles they desire instead of the weakling they provide that will never push a signal through a wall very well and if you have 2 storys and concreat flooring signal will be good to ok on the level the modem is on then near nothing to nothing on the next
and that just makes it so they can push there mesh or whatever so they can make more this i refused and got a 3 pack off shopee new and cheaper

Hi, if you are using pldt dsl it would work, same experience ko before but that was more than 7 years ago.. pag fiber not sure with pldt, since from other fiber connection provider like converge, naka bind ung mac address/ serial number nung modem router per account, so kahit same model hidi sya mag work unless papa reconfigure mo sa customer service nila.. :)
Yung sa amin may problem ang ethernet port. Nawawala net ko sa pc. Sa wifi nman wlang problema., kakainis tlga., gs2 kong ireplace sana.,

Hi maam, if pldt dsl po pede po, for converge po negative, pede nyo po gawin is pag nagpalit kayo ng modem-router you can call ung hotline po nila.. Kasi per account naka bind ung serial number/mac address ng modem-router, kaya need nila update anu ung sn/mac address nung modem router na gagamitin nyo..
since pinoy rin naman tayo dito, nag babalak kasi ako bumili ng TP-Link Deco S4 AC1200 isp ko is Converge. I should I go for it? kasi may mga areas sa bahay na hindi abot ng connection namin. Wired connection naman is working pretty okay, pero wifi talaga nararamdaman namin yung bagal niya to almost no connection at all on some parts of the house. Also another question is should i just contact converge for a new replacement router? years narin kasi tong stock router na provided ng converge for us. Salamat sana masagot mo sir
usually po hindi pinapalitan ni converge ung modem router unless may defect po. and even po palitan nila hindi din po ganun kalakas ung wifi range ng stock modem router, kaya minsan may offer sila na bundle na may asus router..
for deco s4 po hindi ko po na try ung model na yan ung x50 mesh system po nila is actually good and may video po ako for the actual test nun which can really help if gusto mo po ng tplink brand.. (try to check ung mga router din po na mesh capable para may room for expansion po)

Hi, im not sure on why you need to replace a modem provided by your ISP with another modem, most ISP today are using fiber modem router, if you will replace it with another modem router it might not work, because the serial\MAC is not registered to your ISP's database.
Hello po mag ask lang po, ano pong pinaka mabilis na way na mapalitan ng ISP yung modem na binigay nila samin. May 2 tech na po kasi yung pinadala nila pero ang problem is yung modem po namin, almost a week narin po kasi kami walang internet.
Hi sir, unfortunately, the fastest way is ung onsite tech, kasi what happens is pag tumawag ka sa hotline and walang magawa si agent remotely, papapunta sila ng tech to physically check kung may issue sila gagawa ng report ng modem issue or if may extra sila, sila na mismo magpapalit.. anung sabi nung onsite tech?
@@JKChavez sabi nung pumuntang tech sir, actually 2 na sila. Sa modem daw ang problem, sabi nila ir report daw nila kasi PLDT Staff daw talaga yung magpapalit ng modem, at hindi daw silang mga contractor lang

@@JKChavez yes sir, fibr naman po yun. Yung unang punta ng tech dito is Jan 4 pa, and everytime na tatawag ako sa hotline nila sir, update nalang palagi ng repair request naririnig ko sabihin ng automated voice dun ih, di na ako nakaka kausap ng agent ulit

1st, ung mga available wifi router sa market pwedeng gawing access point, as long as may operation mode sila na access point, ung speed po na nakukuha sa mga access point is kasing bilis lang ng kayang ibigay ng modem mo po kung saan connected ung access point mo..
2nd, access point, and third party wifi router should be connected via lan cable to your modem
outer, para okay ung speed, if wireless sila, meaning if walang lan cable connected, ang option na un is para maging wifi repeater po ung binili mong third party wifi router, which is usually almost haft speed nawawala, and need mo i check if capable ung wifi router mo na reapeater mode po..
3rd, pwede po lahat ng lan port sa stock modem router kabitan ng third party wifi router, kapag need mo pa, add ka ng network switch para mas maraming router ka pwede ilagay, ang usual issue sa maraming third party wifi router is looping, pag ung isang wifi router same ip range ang gamit sa isa pang wifi router mo po, pero nasosolutionan naman po un, basta change the ip range..

Hi, before po sa pldt dsl modem, hindi po nila kinukuha, after 2 years of using it, pero not sure po kung ganun pa din sa fiber modem for pldt and converge. Pero in my experience, pinalitan ni converge modem ko, and kinuha nila old unit..

if fiber na po for pldt negative, if pldt DSL pa din pede pa din po.. for fiber kasi for converge, kahit same model, hindi gagana, kasi registered sa line mo is ung serial at mac address ng modem router na binigay nila..

@@jonagumban2966 unfortunately Maam d kita masagot, since yung modem na balak mo gamitin is or maybe registered sa other owner, kaya i unregister nila un sa previous owner bago maregister sa inyo, pero ang pagkaka alala ko as long na converge provided router ung ipapalit nyo wala ng additional cost..

Ang problem kasi sa mga isp na modem router combination is mababa ang specs nila once na madami na naka connect nahihirapan na yung modem Kaya mas maganda kumuha ng 3rd party router mas maganda sana kung mesh system kaso sa mesh system hahanap ka din ng stable system hindi lahat stable like tp link
yes sir tama, kasi focus lang naman si ISP na magka internet ka, kaya kahit single core modem-router un na kukunin nila para makatipid sa end nila, and pag higher subscription plan nag ooffer sila ng third party wifi router..
Im not bragging about asus mesh, pero so far solid sila lalo na ung mga triband mesh router nila.. medyo pricey nga lang..
@@JKChavez di ko pa nasusubukan di Asus mesh ang hirap hanapin ng xt12 Nila ang dami ko ng pinuntahan wala sila. But so far nageejoy Ako sa Google nest wifi pro most stable na mesh na nabili ko. It's not the fastest mesh Pero most stable naman which is much more important sa akin

for the XT12, dami din nagtatanong sa akin kung saan makakakuha, and per my contact from ASUS order basis daw sya. pero follow up ko kay asus kung paano umorder sa kanila..
