That is an impressive, updated bird. The Avionics alone is a masterpiece in weight reduction, CRM and ergonomics! Hope to see you at the airshow circuit soon!
Sac Metro is one of the few fire departments in the state along with LA City and San Diego, to have its own copters. Kern, Santa Barbara, Ventura, Orange, and LA Counties have fire department copters in part due to a contract with CAL FIRE.
Perhaps “FREE” is not the best word. We all pay for that, one way or another, directly or indirectly. Plus these aircraft are not brand new. They are pass downs from agencies to agencies. They just get retrofitted, painted, etc.
Will help increase SMFPD fire attack capabilities. Nice addition.

CAL FIRE has a fleet of copters that also serve Northern California.

I believe Contra Costa County has a water dropping helicopter as well.
East Bay Parks has a water dropping copter.

Cheaper than buying new. They are better than new, new digital instruments added, new engine, etc.
That's a lie contra costa county and Sonoma county also have their own dedicated helicopters through a partnership with reach for fire and medical
