    I had to rewatch the JMRI segment to absorb the content. I think I need to rewatch it again. The Athearn ICC caboose is nice and I havent noticed the wires, now I'll be looking. Thanks for all your hard work!

      We’ll see if we can shorten the JMRI Operations segments…as it’s not for everyone. There’s a similar video on how ya Setup JMRI: bit.ly/3fw3APy
      It’s not intended to follow along step by step, but shows us how quick the system can get up & running.
      Now you know how easy it is to open an Athearn ICC caboose, you can pop in there and address anything on the interior that eats away at ya. 😆
      Good Luck! 🍀

    Thanks for describing how you use JMRI to set up different ops sessions. While most of it went way over my head, I am starting to get a better understanding of how it all works thanks to your videos and some other friends help. We should not have to repair models right out of the box but it happens. I had to repair a locomotive that had a pickup wire broken off from the contact. It is good to have the skills needed to repair it and save the aggravation of sending it back. One note on operations, a yard that is half full at the start of an ops session is actually "full". If a yard is crammed full at the beginning it will only get worse as cars come and go and it will frustrate the yard crew. We recently reduced the rapacity of the yard in JMRI and it really helped the ops session as it freed up track space to build and breakdown trains during the session. Thanks again for anther great video.-Tom

      Tom, great feedback. Your observation on the yard tracks is great. We could really stand to address the yards car volume. The other two yards are not much better. As we find ourselves adding more cars, cause there’s room. 🤦🏻‍♂️
      How do you refrain from adding more, when you should be subtle acting more? That’s the question.
      I feel as if JMRI is slightly above all of our pay grade, but with enough repetition and exposure…we’ll all get a better hand in it. To then share with the masses. Four minutes was probably a bit long for an overview, a minute would probably be best…less info, maybe easier to retain.
      As always, it’s great to hear from you. I believe your summary of the episodes is better than the descriptions I put with the video. Thank you for always supporting the content I’ve been sharing.

    Sweet fix on that caboose, very slick how you inverted the PC board and hung it from the ceiling. I appreciate the explanation on how you build consist and alter them so easily in JMRI. Good luck to Cullen on the ballast application, I do mine a pinch at a time. Cheers Rob

      Spot on Rob! JMRI is a lifesaver and has changed the way we setup locomotives.
      Cullen is a character, ya never know what fellow modelers are going to ask…so his reaction always varies. I’m guessing you sing, “I get it done, one pinch at a time, it’s how I ballast the line.” (Sang to the music of Johnny Cash’s ‘one piece at time’).
      Thanks for posting feedback, it’s great to hear your take on the ep.

    Another great video. Will have to go back and find the videos that deal with setting up JMRI.

      Thanks John. Here’s the link directly to the “quick” setup of JMRI…you’ll want to use the pause button…if you plan to try and set it up using the video.
      ua-cam.com/video/d1O5xTPL_98/v-deo.htmlm44s
      It’s really just intended to show how quick a person can set it up. In reality, it can be done in 15-20 minutes…remember, you don’t want to fill in any excess info or worry about getting everything perfect. It can be a sharp learning curve, so less is more.
      Best of luck, you’ll really enjoy it, once ya get a handle on it.

    Nice job with the consist resolution, I was surprised that it took more than one electronic adjustment to fix it, but the results speak for themselves, well done! I also appreciate how quickly you were able to get a segment on the consist into an episode - it is pretty clear you have your next few episodes planned out, so it was great to see the engagement from the comments and viewers incorporated into the episode in a timely fashion. Already looking forward to the next one!

      Consider it our way of saying thanks for commenting and suggesting solutions. I’m guessing we’re not the only ones who’ve experienced that sort of thing.
      It did take some tweaking, but we’re pretty happy with where it’s currently at.
      Generally I start editing the next video, 3-4 days prior to the drop of the latest video. So next Friday’s video is half done and I’ll add what we do this weekend.
      It’s not a perfect formula, but I try to string together enough content to keep things interesting.

    Another great Saturday morning, great looking SDP45's BSB scheme looked great on these, nice to see Athearn doing Genesis version of the WV caboose, the interior is a bit of a letdown compared to previous models, sure wish they offered those caboose seats as a separate part, I love the MK5000, slight correction though, MK actually produced 6 of them, first 3 went to SP in full SP colors, second 3 went to UP in the dark blue MK scheme (Demo scheme?) unfortunately neither road purchased them, while I mainly like the older stuff it's nice that you feature the occasional newer unit on here , and props to that hodge podge passenger train you ran with the SDP45's reminded me of the startup consists Amtrak ran in the 70's

    • @SootheMilwaukeeRoad
      @SootheMilwaukeeRoad  2 роки тому

      Scott, great catch! I failed to word the MK5000 info properly, I was attempting to call out the only 3 that were used by the UP (9001-9003). Not trying to omit the SP units, but you outlined it much better.
      You’re so right about the underwhelming interior of the caboose…when we place the order, it’s based on a line drawing. So it’s kind of a mystery purchase of sorts. 🤦🏻‍♂️
      Thanks for tuning in and as always, it’s great to hear from fellow modelers…especially when they key in on specific elements.

    Another great episode that ended too quickly. I have so many questions about JMRI and operating on the GN, but instead of asking on here, I think it’ll be easier if I pack a suitcase, dig for my passport, take time off work, book a flight, cancel the flight for a cheaper flight, take 5 rapid tests, book a motel with Cullen, show him how shampoo works, and then operate on your layout. Hopefully with your pops too. Looks like a lot of fun. On second thought, maybe I’ll book the motel solo. I don’t trust Cullen’s “spit aim”. How far can that guy spit his cud anyway?

    • @SootheMilwaukeeRoad
      @SootheMilwaukeeRoad  2 роки тому

      Ha ha! Well, you’re always welcome to visit, if you’re ever able to dump through all those hoops.
      I don’t know how you guys manage to string together the length of content you do. Most videos I start editing with 30-45 mins on content…it gets compressed into the 15 you see.
      As for the GN in 1970 ops breakdown…I really should do a JMRI step by step…that isn’t time lapsed. A lot of people ask about it, so I just highlight it briefly (hoping not to bore those that don’t care for it).
      Thanks for the added humor and we’ll see if Cullen can answer any more questions…you’ve brought some quality questions to the table. This weeks, the audio was weak…I’m not sure why that was, but next week, maybe he’ll get his voice back.
      As always, thanks for watching Mark (and Mrs. Mark).

    Another home run. So how about some half-drawn shades on that Q caboose? I like Cullens method of ballasting as well. Can’t hurry a delicate project like throwing rocks at steel and wood. When’s the next session?

    • @SootheMilwaukeeRoad
      @SootheMilwaukeeRoad  2 роки тому

      That’s a great question, we’re hinged on the interim dispatchers schedule…we’ll make it happen, whenever he’s available.
      Great suggestion on the shades, I like it. Never knew the cabooses had shades, but that would be a great way to hide the interior shortcomings.
      I think the song Cullen sings is, “One piece at a time.”, as he lays the ballast.

      Best time for RR time and when the weather says otherwise. I’m okay with the outside world “forcing” me to enjoy the hobby. It’s snowing? Great! It’s raining? Great! It’s 100° out? Great!
      Scorching heat or bitter cold, I’m 100% with ya Dwight. I hope you enjoy this weeks episode.

    Huh, I didn't realize those SW1500's had Flexicoil trucks.
    I wonder how many total locomotives the BN had with Flexicoils?

    • @SootheMilwaukeeRoad

      Good eyes and great question, I’m not sure where a person would even start to compile that info…especially with the merger of CB&Q, NP, etc.
      Thanks for posting your observation. If I could find the answer, it’d be a great question of the week.

    • @mathuetax

      @@SootheMilwaukeeRoad Yah, I'd not noticed Flexicoils on their locomotives before.
      Since I seem to obsessively look for these trucks (probably due to my MN&S fixation) I immediately recognized their profile. I tend to do the same with spotting AAR Type B trucks on EMDs.

    Triple Nickel.. That will be my next menu goal at Denny's. I will be eating off the Double Nickel Menu at Denny's in a about 3 weeks... Mission Accomplished, next goal the Triple Nickel Menu!

      That’s an interesting take on triple nickels…I’d bet you’re one of a very short list of people on the planet, that have taken that angle on 555! Too funny! 😂

    I like the “jobs for ops” “getting to know the GN in 1970”
    Also, what about simple black construction paper view block to hide the capacitor?

    • @SootheMilwaukeeRoad
      @SootheMilwaukeeRoad  2 роки тому

      Fellow modelers, like yourself, asked yo see breakdowns on the jobs…so you’ll see a few more of those segments in the future.
      Thank you for the suggestion on hiding the capacitors…we just may have to put the black paper or paint the caps black. If it’s overly noticeable? We’ll address it.
      Thanks again for taking the time to post.

    William, what brand of airbrush do you use/recommend?

    • @SootheMilwaukeeRoad
      @SootheMilwaukeeRoad  2 роки тому +1

      Mike, I was hoping to get you the exact model numbers for the airbrushes I use, but they don't have model numbers on them. One is a Paasche (dual action) and the other is a Binks Wren (Single Stage). Truth be told, I do not use them very often...most of the stuff I do is chalks, washes and AK Interactive colored pencil.
