Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness is a fantasy real-time strategy computer game developed by Blizzard Entertainment and released for DOS in 1995 and Mac OS in 1996 by Blizzard's parent, Davidson & Associates. It was remastered in November 2024.

I love the lore this game has, looking back on it. No wonder why that WoW has such staying power, they spent like 20 years building the lore for it.
If I was a WoW player? I would play all the old warcraft games, just to understand what lead to that game.
Yea the story is amazing. Not sure if you know , but they even have like 30 books for it. So there is a lot to read aswell :)

Dark Portal levels feel a thousand times nicer to play when zoomed out. As a kid I think the most annoying/unfun thing was just not seeing the catapult that was about to ruin your day.
By combining the zoom out and adjusting game speed with + and - without pausing, the challenging levels feel far more fun.
I agree, having zoom does feel a lot better. Whenever I see the old zoom it still amazes me how one catapult in the middle of the screen can pretty much shoot anywhere on the screen :D
My entire knight is getting decimated because I cant see that one catapult in 640 x 480 resolution

@@asapp_ you did it super hard way. 1) with starting units you can jump straight to auchidoun and slay orange, I managed that even as a kid.) 2) but at least you can destroy red straight away...

@@asapp_ He's probably referring to the start of the video. The orc shown to the right used to be on the left a while ago, which is wrong (lore-wise), because he is a Beyond the Dark Portal character (Ner'zhul, the Dark Shaman).

It would be weird if they sold the expansion as a seperate thing, tho I wouldn't be suprised if they did

Pretty much. They added widescreen, a zoom function and HD graphics. While I enjoy the zoom and widescreen support, they are things that have been community made years ago. I like the HD graphics but it's just not enough to justify the price. They should have just released a patch for it, but of course the want money xd Also the score screen is a downgrade and apperently there is no chat for multiplayer outside of the game anymore. So they even removed things

Hello sir.I have the game to.I see your UI smaller than original.How you can change it?If i choose that option the slider is freezed so i cant change my UI size.If i set to fixed its super tiny.I need an option between the two.Or it only works if i played windowed mode?
If you set it to fixed in fullscreen mode you should be able to adjust the slider. If you can't then unfortunatly I don't know how to fix it. It just works for me so I never had to find a workaround. I hope you can find a way to solve it!

I HAD to use Glittering Prizes for the last three missions of the orc campaign..i just kept running out of gold.
We've all been there at some point :D I remember turning off fog of war when I was younger so I could see the enemys attack earlier

No it doesn't. It makes the game harder since you have less time to react to things that are happening if you play on a faster game speed. But it doesn't effect the AI behavior or anything else in the game. On the fastest game speed one ogre might kill a worker in about a second, which makes it hard move him away to save him. But if you play on a slower speed and the ogre takes 3 seconds (or more depending on game speed) you have more time to pull him away back to his home to safety :) That's just an example but you get the idea

These are a disaster... They could have at least remade the cinematics and menus, but they didn't. They could have given units updated collision and moved away from the chunky grid movement, but they didn't. They could have remade units/structure models but they didn't.
For that matter, why did they call wc3 'reforged'? Not calling it 'remastered' suggests it's a remake. There again, they could have vastly improved on the models/environments/cinematics with modern tech (I'm thinking as pretty as sc2) and it would have been amazing. But they didn't.
Blizzard (maybe acti, but who knows) decided to rehash their older games with barely any improvements, and slapped a new price sticker on all of them.
Blatant money grubbing. If they bothered to re-release, the least they could have done is put in the effort to make them worth buying again. The rise of half-assed remasters and re-releases is a blight on the game industry and should stop.
Disappointing and overpriced for sure. Sure they could have done a lot of things with it, but who was really expecting that from blizzard. Not me :) I do like the new graphics for w2 tho, so that's someting atleast
