A comparison video between the Colorsoft, Kobo Libra Colour and the Note Air 3C would be great. I’ve got a Kobo Libra Colour and I’m waiting for my Colorsoft to be delivered. Glad you like it. I was thinking so many people had unrealistic expectations about e-ink Colour and I like a softer less-white screen to read from, as I think white harsh.
Thanks, my Colorsoft finally arrived this week 2 months after I ordered it! My husband is giving to me for Christmas now! I got the price down by £100 (effectively $100) by trading in my old 2016 Kindle), so getting colour for £170!
Great review. I was going to order a colorsoft but when I read all the complaints I decided to wait and see what happens. Instead I ordered a kobo colour and it arrives tomorrow. I like that it’s also linked to the library overdrive and I can annotate. I would be very interested in seeing a comparison of the two ereaders also. I have a large collection of kindle books so I may want to upgrade to the kindle color reader someday once they fix the glitches.
Thank you! Let us know how you enjoy the Kobo. I just got my replacement Colorsoft. I’ll do a comparison of the “original one” (the faulty one) and the replacement once I’ve messed with it a bit.
I have the Colorsoft and I LOVE it. I've been reading on and using a BOOX Tab Mini C for almost a year so I was familiar with color e-ink...and I think the Colorsoft blows it out of the water when it comes to the color. I still plan to keep both and use the BOOX for other reading apps like Hoopla...but I will use the Colorsoft for all my color content. I do read graphic novels and they look great. I have the yellow band on the bottom but it's faded over time and I don't even notice it. I'm not sure I would have even seen it in the first place if I hadn't seen so many people talking about it. Definitely not a device for everyone...if the yellow bothers them, the UI not having a full dark mode bothers them, or the price tag is just too much that they don't see the value...that's totally fair. But for me? It's love.
Yes!! I agree to EVERYTHING that you said! I got the replacement, but the yellow didn’t really bother me. I actually sent a photo of my device to a friend to ask if it was really even there. I did the replacement to see how customer service was handling the requests. I had a viewer comment that customer service wasn’t doing well, so I wanted to see for myself. (Customer service was great, btw.) All of that to say that I agree with you 100% - this device is not for everyone, but I LOVE it!!
I’ve been wondering what you’d have to say about this! :) I too was excited…. I’ve enjoyed the old Paperwhite over the last couple years. After getting the Colorsoft I was cursed with that yellow hazy band at the bottom and I guess I’m also cursed with eyes that are sensitive to things like that- what got me even more sadly was the graininess of the display compared to the crisp contrast on the Paperwhite- even my old one. The color itself looked AWESOME but I had to weigh what was more important to me (beautiful color covers, or crisp pages to read). I was also missing the complete dark mode. After 2 days with it I decided to send it back and I got the NEW Paperwhite instead, signature edition, and I lovvvvvveeee it. So fast, so clean and crisp, and I’m enjoying those signature features I didn’t have before like the auto dimming and wireless charging. I’m happy!
Yay!!! I'm so glad that you're happy with your new Kindle. Isn't it AMAZING how much of a difference the little touches like auto dimming make? Happy reading!!
I JUST got my replacement one with a lovely note from the Kindle team thanking me for waiting patiently while they fixed their booboo. How are you enjoying yours?
It looks SO NICE to be able to see the book covers alone in colour; it somehow looks so much more welcoming! The price tag is just so extreme for that experience though… 😢 I’ve been wanting a kindle for a couple of years now, but I might wait a few more in the hopes that the price on colour e-ink comes down. I’m way too lazy to de-DRM anything these days, and I’m not that interested in moving to the kobo ecosystem either, but it does sometimes seem like better option. I love the buttons, the grip area, and the white colour casing on the kobo libre… but I’m also addicted to the simplicity of the Kindle ecosystem! (Also I’m in Canada, so I think the situation with ads on kindle is different here.)
I agree with you - the price tag on the Colorsoft is steep. I wonder if they will refurbish some of the ones that get returned and sell them at a discount. I’ll be watching for those to hit the market.
I have a large collection of kindle books so I may want to upgrade to colorsoft too.
I got a new Paperwhite to replace an older one I had. I thought I would just use my Libra Colour, but I end up selling it and getting the Color Soft. I am so glad I did.The color is much better on the Kindle. I would like to see you do a deep dive on it.
I JUST got my replacement Colorsoft -- how is your Colorsoft? Do you love it? Did you keep your original one, or did you end-up returning it for a replacement?
Thanks for the review. I almost talked myself into buying it but I know I would not be happy without page turn buttons. I sometimes get out my iPad just to look at the beautiful book covers. I guess I will have to settle for the Kobo Libra 2 Color. I would appreciate a comparison between the kobo and kindle.
I am ABSOLUTELY not trying to convince you to buy a Kindle, but have you though about trying the page turn remotes that you just clip onto the side of the device? It's not the same as buttons, but it's a work around.
I was so excited to see this video pop up in my list. 😁 I was sure I'd want a color kindle before they were announced, but am on the fence now and am tempted by the scribe. I was hoping for writing abilities like the Kobo. Like you, I only read black and white, so my main purposes for color would be covers, highlighting (very intrigued about being able to filter highlights by color), and having my knitting patterns that I send to my kindle in color. Would love a deep dive!
Great video! Yes. A comparison video would be wonderful. I am wondering if a person with a Boox color device would benefit by switching to the Kindle Colorsoft.
Ya know, I need to do another Boox video because the audio on my Boox deep dive was a bit of a cluster f*. Maybe I’ll do another deep dive / comparison combo. But my quick answer is I don’t think the Colorsoft is really a replacement because the Boox devices allow you to download apps to read books in LOTS of different eco systems while the Colorsoft is limited to Amazon.
That's a great idea. They didn't go on sale for Black Friday or Christmas this year (I don't think), but I wonder if they will refirbish all of the returned units and sell them for cheaper.
I did the comparison, and I just got my replacement Colorsoft, so I will work on a deep dive comparing the “original” (faulty) Colorsoft with the replacement one. Thank you for your input.
Thank you!! I just posted a video of the Christmas books that I was reading. I teach English to non-English speakers, and I'm a reading/writing/grammar teacher, but I teach in a private, online setting, and I'm actually a certified Special Education teacher, so I end up teaching LOTS of subjects, just depending on what my students are struggling in. 😂
I only read Kindle books on my paperweight signature, so I cannot justify the purchase of color soft. However, if I read magazines or comic books, I would definitely purchase this. I will admit being able to highlight in color and then being able to look any list sorted by color highlight would be interesting but again, there’s no need for ME to do that. I also never read with the white backgrounds. I am a black background white text reader. It’s easier on my eyes. Even with all the adjustments for the white screen, I still feel it’s too much light. I love your reviews and your excitement in general. ❤❤❤
Thank you for your kind words . . . and I 100% agree that for most people who only read books (not manga, comics, magazines, etc), there is no need to "upgrade" to the Colorsoft unless the Signature Paperwhite is a significant upgrade for them, and it's one that they are interested in.
I did mention it briefly -- I didn't notice it, but a friend of mine said that it's there. If it is, it's VERY faint. I went ahead and did the replacement just in case it gets worse.
I already have a couple Kindle Fires, which I use to both read books, watch TV and play games. Why would I buy a Colorsoft on top of those? Just curious!
That’s a great question. A lot of people (including me) feel that reading on e-ink is like reading on a paper and ink book. It’s a lot easier on the eyes. With that being said, if a person is looking for “just an e-reader”, the Colorsoft is probably not the one. There are great Kindles that are much cheaper (without color) for reading books.
Well if it isn’t my favorite fit book tuber. Was wondering if you were going to jump into this one. I have one but sadly it has the yellow band of death and must go back. FIRST COMMENT!
here Colorsoft not being released until sometime next year. Hoping they release an Oasis Colour. Its frustrating using touch as most just wont register my touch just like fingerprint sensors so I rely on buttons. So far loving Kobo Libra Colour just wish they had vivid setting like the Colorsoft
It's probably frustrating having to wait for the new device, but at least you won't have to go through the issues with the yellow stripe at the bottom.
I've been waiting for your review, Danielle! I know I said I probably wouldn't get a color kindle way back on some comment months ago, but no, I lied to myself because I have zero self control. I waited and ordered November 2nd though and supposed to come tomorrow but still doesn't say shipped and I'm nervous they'll cancel. Because the item page on Amazon now says none shipping for 6-8 weeks! I hope that doesn't mean tomorrow it will show mine is delayed. I'll be so upset! :'( UPDATE: I didn't get it, they said I could 'wait and see if it comes'. I just cancelled. I'll look into one later when Amazon figures out the mess. Their Colorsoft order page changes daily. Sometimes coming in two months, one month, out of stock.Yet I see people still getting theirs! UGH
I JUST got my replacement on -- I think it arrived on 12/18. I still have hte original one (I need to ship it back to Amazon after the holidays); I might do a side-by-side comparison just to see how much of a difference I can see before I box the original one up.
@@fitdaniellereads Oh cool, looking forward to seeing if a difference. I actually went ahead and ordered one from Best Buy and received it a few weeks ago and though there's an extremely light beige (not yellow) effect at the very bottom it's barely noticeable and the type fonts are SO clear, none of the blurry or graininess I see mentioned on others. So I'm really happy with mine, it's amazing to see the colors without the ghosting and flashing I see on my boox go color 7, though I still like it too. :)
I haven't. I have a student who reads a LOT of Japanese manga and reads some to me from time to time (when she doesn't want to read what I think we should be reading 😂), but I have never actually read any.
Amazon isn’t releasing this ereader due to so many bad reviews. They are supposed to be working on the software. Heard the customer service is awful. Heard they are are no longer posting the one star bad reviews. I don’t like that there is no pen and no overdrive. I love my Kobo Libra no need for another color ereader. I think the Kobo is so much better and cheaper too. Not worth it imo.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. The Kobo really is a great device. I contacted customer service, and they were very helpful. They didn’t ask any questions and just arranged to send me a replacement device. It actually just arrived (after a long wait). I am going to do a video comparing the 2 after I use the replacement for a little while.
Ok. I am now sold. I love love love my kindle paperwhite se. however, I want this to be my sole reading device for books magazines and newspapers! Super hype. Now I just need the money lol

You’re very welcome. Thank you for watching!
Great review, Danielle.😊 I would love to see a comparison video next and which books you're currently reading. 📚 What subject do you teach in school?

Do you have the yellow shadowing at the bottom go your screen? A lot of people are complaining about the defect so I was wondering.

@@fitdaniellereadsthe first one I got had a dead pixel, returning that. The second one seems fine so far…
Hey Danielle! What do you mean you don't see the cover while reading? Cmon ! Thank you!

Is it less grainy then the Kobo Libra Color?
I just got the replacement Colorsoft, and it doesn't look grainy to me at all.

Hey y'all!!
You don’t mention the text. On Reddit it looks really hazy and that would make it a nonstarter for me🤷🏼♀️
